I don’t understand- it’s still up on their Instagram page?surely they’d have taken it down too?

Why?

Because the photo agencies have?

Would you take your own SM photo down because some external agency who was trying to sell it on declared it not up to journalistic standards?

Alwaysgoingforit · 11/03/2024 08:05

Not massive, not that interesting. We will probably never know the reason for the photo pull or Catherine's medical condition, nor should we. That's her business, she is a person with feelings even if she is potentially a future queen.

And lots of other places.

Not really the DMs fault that their audience of sychophantic serfs lap this nonsense up whilst imagining how fortunate they are to have their hard earned taxes support a family who IRL would be virtually unemployable.

You sound bitter.

MokaEfti · 11/03/2024 08:08

It's clearly massive news because it's all over the news.
Whether we find it interesting or not is another matter!

BobnLen · 11/03/2024 08:10

If it was just on their instagram it wouldn't matter but it shouldn't have been released to the news agencies

NuffSaidSam · 11/03/2024 08:12

Sparetoes · 11/03/2024 08:05

It could potentially be massive news though and should be scrutinised. Not Kate's health, which is her business, but the picture, it's manipulation and withdrawal and the reasons behind that is big news.

That's exactly what this thread is doing, scrutinising how important this is. The people who believe it to be very small and insignificant news should have their views heard too....otherwise it's not scrutiny is it? It'd just be loads of people getting excited about how MASSIVE it is.

Personally, I'm really struggling to see what the potential for MASSIVE news here is? Alien abduction? She's been kidnapped? She's had gender reassignment surgery and is now Prince Kit? It turns out she was a robot sent by the Chinese? All seems quite unlikely tbh.

I'm surprised they bother releasing it direct to agencies. SM is taught as a source for new gathering now on journalism courses and the royal SM presence is huge. Maybe it's to do with the image resolution? I'm never very clear about image tech.

hardknocklifeforme · 11/03/2024 08:14

"sure, but we don’t pay millions to whatever else is going on in the world."

This has to be one of the most insular posts I have ever read.

You're right. Images from social media are compressed and manipulated to fit into the little square so won't be of high enough quality/resolution to be used in print format.

I still don't understand the issue. Nothing drastic seems to have been done to this photo.

SherbetDips · 11/03/2024 08:17

It’s only been “killed” because the photo has been photoshopped and the royal family don’t allow that. Can down 😛

Nevermind91 · 11/03/2024 08:20

......
meanwhile the press, and the millions of lemmings who think that what is offered as news should be devoured, continue in their quest for another victim....

Exactly. It’s very odd, people pretending it isn’t are gaslighting.

Astonetogo · 11/03/2024 08:24

I wonder if this is power play and the press are intentionally making a huge deal of this in an attempt to force an appearance out of Kate?

No. Not correct.

Photoshopping is common enough in photos from KP.

The photo has been 'killed' by media agencies, not the royals. It's still up on their Instagram.

Its been 'killed' not because of a tiny bit of photoshopping, but because it appears to be substantially doctored and as a result, they do not have faith in the veracity of what it claims to represent.

I don't believe a 'kill order' has ever been issued against a photo released by the royals before. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Totally agree.

I don’t think anyone sane actually thinks she’s dead or a lizard.

So the alternative worst-case scenario is: she’s still really poorly and looked terrible in the photos.

How exactly is that a huge deal, we know that she has had serious surgery. What do the papers actually want, a live stream from her bedside?

Leave the poor woman alone.

Edited

It not her health that's the big news, it's issuing a picture so manipulated multiple press agencies felt the need to "kill" it that's the news now.

There is undoubtedly money in this whole media circus for the news outlets.

I was going to Google whether the agencies were owned by bigger media organisations, (who would then own media outlets that might benefit from the story getting more outrageous), but I dare say someone else will tell us.

Crackermuncher · 11/03/2024 07:09

I like a conspiracy theory as much as the next person but this is probably easily explained I think. Was the picture taken with a camera phone? Perhaps a camera phone that merges a few best shots together and has an Ai element to the process? Wasn’t there a recent ad campaign for a phone that did exactly this?
AP will be aware that the reach of this photo is global, and will also be aware that the pic has been widely scrutinised and criticised on social media for its poor editing. In the current climate, it doesn’t look good for AP to be publishing heavily (and poorly) doctored photos and presenting them as genuine. Which AP material can we trust from Gaza , or Ukraine if they allow this kind of thing for Royal ‘news’?

The most sensible comment so far !

But mainly Gaza. The Telegraph certainly has a nerve. They’ve spent months refusing to report honestly on the slaughter of innocents in Palestine- but this is front page news?

This is what I was thinking too. Seems like overkill for a bit of bad photoshop.

LillianGish · 11/03/2024 08:51

Press images are photoshopped all the time not true and certainly never by agencies whose job is to present the facts and weed out fake news. I don't believe the photo has been manipulated for any sinister reason - it was taken by an amateur (William) and everyone knows how difficult it is to take a group shot in which everyone looks good at the same time so I suspect this picture is an amalgamation of several. More fool KP for releasing such a picture when speculation is already rife - either get a professional to take it or tolerate a level of imperfection. They should have known it would be pored over for clues. In fact better to have done nothing than this - stick to the never complain never explain strategy.
