Cash strapped council buys Mr Darcys shirt

How can Calderdale Council justify spending £20,000 plus buying fees on a shirt when they are already in dire financial
state. ? Who the hell authorised this spend when they are making so many cuts. I do understand that various departments have separate budgets but common sense should apply. Oh stop, common sense and council spending don’t come in the same sentence.

That shirt is pretty iconic. Never heard of Bankfield Museum before, but it seems to have an emphasis on textiles (understandably enough given the area) and I think this is a savvy move on a lot of levels and good that it hasn't disappeared off to a private collection, never to be seen again.

Sorry that I didn’t do enough research before I posted. Should have seen the monies were ‘ring fenced’ by donation.
