I'm about to spend a lot on 3 tickets for DH and DC. Is it worth it? (we are all big fans, it's just an eye watering amount) We would only do it once!

It's a spectacular show, some moments of genuine "magic", but the plot is a bit of a travesty in my opinion, and drives a coach and horses through canon!

I know what you mean…

But OP - like so many other people - has read the play and enjoyed it.

Plot-related issues therefore shouldn’t keep her from enjoying the show.

pootlin · 07/03/2024 21:17

I’d recommend doing the ticket lottery. I got 2 tickets in the centre of the front row, £40. It was brilliant, if you catch the cast’s eyes when they’re not speaking, they will nod or smile at you. Lucius was luscious 😍

@SqueezedMiddleTummy been waiting a few years to go so been saving here and there for it! It's a once in a lifetime thing for us so I just want the best seats I can! It does make me wince though to be honest

Have you tried entering the lottery? When each of my kids were in a HP obsessed phase I entered regularly and managed to win twice (6 years apart but only had to enter for a few months each time to Only problem it is only 2 tickets which is why I ended up taking my eldest and sat in amazing seats front row dress circle and then decided not to bother with lottery and took my middle child a bit later on as she was also keen to go and sat up in the gods to be cheap but we definitely didn’t enjoy it as much from there.

AngryBird6122 · 07/03/2024 21:20

@SqueezedMiddleTummy never heard of the lottery for it to be honest! But we would need 3 seats :( Otherwise DH would never forgive us (he would have to be the one left out haha!)

Thanks all.

Im going to book row G in the stalls as I have heard this is the best for views. Has anyone sat closer/further away and would recommend? I have heard front row of the dress circle is also one of the best

Yes, when I saw it I was in the front row of the dress circle and had a great view! The tickets were not cheap but I'd waited so long to see it I didn't want someone's head blocking my view (originally booked to go in 2020, then lockdown happened so only saw it last year)

KohlaParasaurus · 07/03/2024 21:41

Definitely worth it! And also worth spending on really good tickets if you can, though DH and I had cheapish tickets and there was only one small part of the edge of the stage that we couldn't see.

I took my son (HP fan) a few years ago. He loved it so worth going. In all honesty it wasn't for me. I guess you are seeing both parts on the same day? Don't forget to book somewhere to eat between part 1&2.

We are going in April and you’ve reminded me I need to book somewhere for food. I was thinking Pizza Express (hopefully quick and easy). Any other suggestions?

Can’t wait!

We had Burger & Lobster which was very near. Lobster roll was yum.

You must go!! It's brilliant!

I love Harry Potter, have read the books and seen all the films....I'm 73😂

Kittenchops · 07/03/2024 21:55

Sorry forgot to day i hope you enjoy the show 🪄🧙‍♀️

modgepodge · 07/03/2024 21:55

As an adult, seeing both parts in one day was amazing and I would have hated to have to wait to see part 2 (the next day would have been ok, any later not so much!!)

if you’re taking a primary age child I might be inclined to do it over 2 days, though then you have the expense of a hotel/travelling to London twice.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 07/03/2024 21:56

Took DD8 to see it in Feb this year, my second time. She absolutely loved it! It was magical taking her. If you do go, go and visit Mina Lima shop between shows for that extra HP fix.

EmmasDilemmas · 07/03/2024 22:03

I love it! I’ve been twice. Once in (comparatively) cheap seats with a crowd of friends. Once on my own when pregnant with my son as I knew I wouldn’t get to go to the theatre again in forever. Bought a seat right near the front. Was worth every penny and will go again when my children are old enough to come too if it’s still on then 😊

TheKeatingFive · 07/03/2024 22:03

I loved it. Well worth it.

We went a couple of years ago. It was amazing, we still talk about it. We had seats in Dress Circle Row H, seats 21 and 22. I spent ages researching the seats as we needed to see the stage captions. They were great seats. I don't think the view is as good in the stalls but I could be wrong. We paid £320 for 2 tickets which is obviously a lot but it really was a special occasion and the only time we've ever been to the theatre together so it was worth it. It was quite hard work though - from start to finish it was 7 hours including intervals and breaks. The seats are quite small and cramped and it was very warm. I was 8 months pregnant at the time and very achy and tired by the end.

Jessforless · 07/03/2024 22:29

I loved the first part and hated the second part. Paid an absolute fortune to go when it first opened and my DC are now old enough to see it and not sure I want to sit through it again to take them 😂

wubwubwub · 07/03/2024 22:31

It's an amazing show. (Plot aside)
Great effects.

Dementors well done, amazing lighting and sound, brilliant stage magic, nifty ideas for things like how the floo network works, entrance to MoM etc

Mapletreelane · 07/03/2024 22:33

AngryBird6122 · 07/03/2024 21:11

@Mapletreelane can I ask why you liked it on two days? Would it have been a bit much all in one day? I have heard it leaves on a big cliffhanger!

I think it would have been too much, nearly 3 hours in the theatre, break then another 3 hours. It gets quite warm in the theatre so wouldn't have surprised me if I 'd have nodded off in the second half 😂May have been too much for the kids.

We chose it that way as had been suggested by a few other friends that had seen it that the two days may be preferable. It just meant we made a whole weekend of it and did other touristy stuff.

And yes Part 1 ends on a huge cliffhanger, but waiting until the next day to find out just prolonged the excitement and we probably spoke about it a lot more over the Saturday . Delayed gratification!

Justploddingonandon · 07/03/2024 22:40

It's an amazing show though I got our tickets in the lottery, second row which was absolutely amazing but did struggle to see a few bits at the back and had neck ache the next day.
If I could afford it I'd probably go for front if dress circle as think that's give the best view.

Belshels · 07/03/2024 22:43

Absolutely brilliant especially if a die hard fan like.my daughter who knows everything about every book. We're very lucky as got £10 tickets for each show (£40 for 2 of us) by randomly checking Ticketmaster on the Friday night, for the following 2 show day

AsTheyPulledYouOutOfTheOxygenTent · 07/03/2024 22:43

I saw it about seven years ago with DD in the cheap seats, and while I enjoyed it I have spent the last seven years wishing I could justify the expense of going back and seeing it from top quality seats so I could get the full impact of the magic effects. As a devotee of cheap seats it's the only time that I've really felt that I've missed out.

springtome · 07/03/2024 23:01

We saw it when it first opened and we loved it! I would love to go back and watch it again but it is so expensive.
