Read this from Centre for Disease Control in the USA

Are raw oats ok?

SnowflakeSparkles · 06/03/2024 17:10

Eating the raw batter is the only reason I make brownies 😅

I make a little extra and put it in a ramekin for me, then cook the brownies for DP and the kids!

@WhatWouldJeevesDo
Yes raw oats are safe to eat.

In the UK it's well know that we do not have a salmonella issue with our eggs, as long as they are Lion eggs. Even pregnant women cans safely eat raw or partially cooked eggs. Hens are vaccinated against Salmonella in the UK (again, Lion stamped eggs only).

In the USA it is different and it would be risky to eat improperly cooked eggs.

SnowflakeSparkles · 06/03/2024 17:15

I'll take my risk with the flour! Brownie mixes should be extremely low on flour anyway.

As others have said it’s the flour, not the eggs you have to worry about (as long as the eggs have the red lion mark). Having said that I’ve been eating raw cake mix for nearly 40 years without issue and won’t stop now….!
