I gave away one of my children's hi-sleepers for free on market place. I was scrolling through when I recognised a photo and discovered it's now back on market place but actually being sold for £50. They are even using the photo I took 🫤 I am just a bit shocked as personally I don't think it's worth that and also they definitely didn't look the type from their profiles!

Poor form but people do it. Some do on purpose, others i would guess found doesn't work for their DC and sell on. I was given baby clothes and I asked if they wanted them returning and they said no just pass on or sell when you're done.

Bitsiemcgee · 04/03/2024 18:28

Surely if you gave it away and were happy with doing that, what they do with if after is nothing to do with you?

Mayalou · 04/03/2024 18:29

What does "the type" look like? I think things are fine to be sold on whether you got it for free or not, if they've had their use from it and know its worth something who is to say how much they might need that cash, whereas you possibly didn't because you gave it away for free.

ChristianHornersGlisteningFinger · 04/03/2024 18:31

Are you saying they used it and sold it on, or have “flipped” it straight away?

MainlyMe · 04/03/2024 18:31

How long ago did you give it away?
if a year then fair enough, if just a few weeks then cheeky!

Why is it cheeky though? She gave it away happily.... She could have sold it but didn't

AttaThat · 04/03/2024 18:33

I assume you gave it away on one of the free groups? They’re full of people flipping things, you have to be realistic.

HerRoyalNotness · 04/03/2024 18:34

You gave it away, it’s theirs to do what they want with now.

Hahahe · 04/03/2024 18:38

Our local free sites ask that people don't sell things that they have been given. I think that's fair enough. If it's just on a general site or group then I think it's fair enough as long as it's not too soon after it's been given.

This.

Forget about it.

Tontostitis · 04/03/2024 18:44

It's really bad form. Passing things on works for everyone, selling something given for free is mean, you've had the benefit free you should give it freely to someone else in need.

TedWilson · 04/03/2024 18:50

It's bad because you may have wanted it to go to someone in need and this could be a pro-flipper.

But they might actually need the money?

Then OP should have taken more care who she gave it to.

Purplestorm83 · 04/03/2024 19:09

You gave it away, it’s not yours anymore, you could have tried to get money for it but didn’t. If others agree with you that it’s not worth £50 then it won’t sell anyway.

TeaKitten · 04/03/2024 19:11

toomuchfaff · 04/03/2024 19:12

some people see "free" as an opportunity to make money...

lambhotpot · 04/03/2024 20:32

You didnt want it gave it away happy to do so to get rid of it now your pissed off that they are selling it.
It`s nothing to do with you now.

Totallybannanas · 04/03/2024 20:41

They haven't even used it they have literally sold it on using the photo I took as I recognised my son's room from the photo. I just think it's cheeky to be honest so much for passing it on. And I mean looking at their profiles both have good jobs. I don't think I could sell something in if I was given it for free.

OP posts:
Bitsiemcgee · 04/03/2024 20:43

Well you didn't... They did as you gave it to them. It's a really weird thing to get het up about if you were happy to give it away, don't create unnecessary negativity for yourself

Totallybannanas · 04/03/2024 20:45

I was happy to get rid of it as too good to throw away but they could have used their own bloody photo! I just think it's poor form especially from people who seem to have well paid jobs so to me it's cheeky!

Have they sold it on as soon as you have given it to them?

Totallybannanas · 04/03/2024 20:48

I'm not getting het up. I'm just shocked someone would have the cheek to do that.

I gave a rowing machine to a friend and then saw it for sale for £50 on Facebook within a couple of months.
Rightly or wrongly I was miffed

Yes they did and have used the photo I put on. So obviously no intention of keeping it which is very sad.
