I gave away one of my children's hi-sleepers for free on market place. I was scrolling through when I recognised a photo and discovered it's now back on market place but actually being sold for £50. They are even using the photo I took 🫤 I am just a bit shocked as personally I don't think it's worth that and also they definitely didn't look the type from their profiles!

I just think pass it on and pay it forward 🤷

I'm not getting het up. I'm just shocked someone would have the cheek to do that.

But that's the point, you said you were happy to let it go. They wanted it, took it and solved your problem, you don't get to stipulate what they do with it so whatever they do with it isn't cheeky... Its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it so if it sells, then fair play to them

Bitsiemcgee · 04/03/2024 20:53

Except using your photo, that I can perhaps understand!

It’s just not a big deal though, and it may not even sell

ChristianHornersGlisteningFinger · 04/03/2024 20:58

Maybe it didn’t fit in the room in which they intended to use it, or they got a different bed from a family member or something.

BertieBotts · 04/03/2024 21:07

Don't worry about it - life is too short.

They did you a favour by taking it away, saving you a trip to the tip or paying for someone to pick it up.

Now they have this big bed sitting in their house. They might not even have any luck selling it and then they'll be stuck with it.

Best case scenario, someone else buys it, gets a nice condition bed for cheap, they make a bit of money for the hassle in dealing with buyers, you get the empty space in your house.

Sure you could have listed it for £50 but then you have to deal with all the annoying bits of selling or holding onto it for ages wondering if anyone is going to buy or not.

I don't think picking something up for free from a stranger is the same as being given something from a friend.

I offered some good quality toddler clothing in very good condition to a friend who has a DC a year younger than mine. She came to my house and went through the two large bin bags and took most of it - and that evening at least half of it appeared on our local Facebook selling site. I’ve never given her another thing, and all DC’s clothes go either to the local Baby Bank, charity shop or in the bin depending on condition.

Fine to sell something on much later on once it’s outgrown, not fine to deliberately take items for free to sell on immediately. However, plenty of people will disagree as they do this themselves usually.

There are people who do this as a job.

If you want to give stuff away for free and avoid this you can use a neighbourhood group and do a raffle rather then first come

Portakalkedi · 04/03/2024 21:21

This is why I don't give stuff on FB, too many cheeky gits like this, when there are probably those who really could use these things.

Totallybannanas · 04/03/2024 21:24

To be honest I just wanted rid of the bed. If I wanted the money I could have sold it. But it's just bad form really, especially when they actually look like that have good jobs. They even had a decent car as I helped them load it. And using my photo is even worse especially as that's what made me realise!

It makes no difference to you though. You wanted to get rid of the bed so chucked it on marketplace for free to get rid of it quickly.

This person took it off your hands, whether they then kept it or sold it on makes absolutely no material difference to your life. So why get wound up about it?
