I’ve broken not one heel but both of them. AIBU in not knowing what to do with myself?

I’ve never broken a bone before and here I am with two moon boots on and a creative style of pulling myself up the hall ninja style on my bottom to go to the bathroom.

that’s all I have accomplished today. I’m on my own due to people’s work commitment's although I will have people popping in to make tea and check I’m still sitting where I should be.

i can’t move unless it’s crawling on the floor which isn’t very helpful in the grand scheme of things is it?

I had a very minor fall up then down the stairs, no dramatic story to add other than now, I can’t stand up.
any suggestions on some ways to get around, stop myself Dying of boredom? Always thought I’d like the idea of a few days bedbound but I’m on day2 and it’s not enjoyable.

That's not much pain relief.

Hope the codeine helps.

When I broke my foot I was on tramadol and codeine and all kinds of other things.

If you are still in pain after the codeine naproxen sodium might help.

I suppose it’s only been 4 days and rest, rest and rest has been the key detail for now. In the hope to let the bones fuse back together. It’s painful but, I am only lying about on pillows and watching TV ects.

i haven’t asked for anything stronger apart from building up what I do have her to take.

i can’t walk on 2 moon boots and crutches though and both heels still feel on fire when I move them.

It’s just a case of being patient, when dh originally phoned his boss he said he would be off for 6 weeks and he didn’t go back to work until 22 weeks after his accident ,. 1

pain relief was minimal, like you they prescribed paracetamol and cocodamol. It barely touched it and dh has a high pain threshold.

Dh camped out on our bed as it was next to the bathroom, when I went to work I left him with a flask, sandwiches, his phone , tv and tablets, you sound like you have a comfy set up for sleeping and that’s important as you need sleep and rest.

Jimjamjaroo · 05/03/2024 23:20

Sounds awful, poor you! Do you need a she wee or something like that?! I can't imagine the annoyance of having to keep dragging yourself to the bathroom. Don't rush yourself back to work if you're still in lots of pain.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 05/03/2024 23:26

Poor you. I broke my calcaneum, had an operation to fix it with two big screws and was none weight bearing for 8 weeks.

Surprised you’ve been sent home with no equipment and no support.

Stairs are shit. I fell down some that were a flight of stairs, platform, flight of stairs. All in one go. Landed at the bottom, sat on my ankle about 6 inches away from the floor to ceiling glass window Blush and realised my foot wasn't facing the right way

Broke my foot, ankle and tore all the ligaments, was driven to hospital over speed bumps where my dad promptly shoved me in a wheelchair and whacked my broken ankle off the wall on the way to a&e

A year later I broke the other foot and ankle getting out of bed

YouTube is pretty good for boredom, I like living big in a tiny house, and also watching people in America try U.K. food (randomly specific I know...)

Oh no, sounds terrible!

I have back and hip problems and am sitting here wondering how I will cope after my proposed ankle replacement (opposite side to hip)... but both heels at once sounds worse ShockFlowers

I've had three surgeries on the ankle. The discovery of transportation by office chair was like a miracle after my first. However in your situation, for safety reasons I would really recommend getting hold of a wheelchair and possibly a walker. You could leave the walker by the loo to help you transfer from the wheelchair. I cannot believe they have left you with no proper aids for getting around!

Second the litter picker and I might have missed it but has anyone suggested ice packs for the pain (if not forbidden by doctor)? If you can't take the boots off ice behind the knee might help (for this a frozen 500ml bottle of water works a treat (in your case two frozen bottles Hmm)

I think you'd struggle with a knee scooter with both feet out of action.

And rest! You definitely need rest! A foam wedge cushion to raise your feet while resting might help with the pain too).

I’ve a-Olen to the surgery nurse with thanks to some suggestions here, she is adjusting pain meds again and making a referral for at home physio or something like that.

That's good OP, I hope you get a bit more relief from the pain. You do sound like a proper trooper but I think you should get the pain under control and have some r&r before attempting to pick up work again. It's a big upheaval, allow yourself some time to heal properly Flowers

I wheeled office chair can be so much fun. You can get a broom and then row it down the hallways. Also useful for stopping it and turning.

Rescue2024 · 08/03/2024 17:50

Day 7, still living in the living room. Rotating blankets and cushions to keep myself comfy and obviously perfecting my office chair racing skills!

had new meds picked up yesterday and although early days I think these are the ones hitting the nail on the head.

codeine 60 mg with ibuprofen 400 mg and then a new one, pregabalin 25g

repeat the codeine & ibuprofen every 4 hours then add another pregabalin to my normal night time meds before bed

throw a few senacot tabs in the mix and pints of water…

spoke to the surgeon today who is happy with my left foot and happy to encourage some weight baring but nothing yet for The right foot it needs at least another 2 weeks rest.

still can’t find anything to grab my attesting tv wise, I’m either colouring in, sleeping or eating…

What kind of telly do you like and what do you have access to?

Access to Apple 5tv, Netflix, sky, Amazon prime

i want something light like working mums, outnumbered, Sheldon just something I don’t need to concentrate on, these new meds have me very relaxed.

DH has sport to watch tonight so I’m going to bum shuffle up to bed for the weekend, just wish I could have a bath and a glass of wine, both are a big no no

Still here, I’m in lots of pain although the senacot has started to work - you’ll be pleased to read

the Pregabalin is doing wonders for my anxiety which is just a bonus but a very pleasant surprise.
i spend a lot of time colouring because tv isn’t holding my attention, I still can’t stand on both feet even though the NHS letter we received today said I can.
