To claim on my car insurance?

DoubleDenim24 · 03/03/2024 20:49

Good evening,
just after a bit of advice, I had a new car about 2 weeks ago it’s a Range Rover evoque and totally in love with it.

This afternoon I’ve been to an inflatable play area with my children, come back out to my car and my whole one side has been keyed!!! From the rear quarter all the way to the front door on the passenger side.
I went to the security office to see if they had seen anything or had any cctv of the incident but unfortunately they didn’t!

Would it be unreasonable to claim off my car insurance? Or would it be better to have it done privately.
Not had to deal with any kind of insurance claims before, thanks in advance

DoubleDenim24 · 03/03/2024 20:58

@1vandal2 it’s dark now so can’t post a pic but they are quite deep scratches 😭 looks absolutely awful can’t believe this happened in the middle of the afternoon at a busy shopping place

You would have to put it down on every insurance renewal for 3-5 years depending who you insure with. I'm not sure how much that add per year but it's still annoying.
Get some private quotes and work from that if you really want it done.

Daffidale · 03/03/2024 21:01

Get a quote to sort it and then decide if worth claiming vs losing your no claims

It’s what insurance is for

Clearinguptheclutter · 03/03/2024 21:03

Even if you claim you will have to pay the excess. Find out how much it would cost to have it sorted privately first.

Magnastorm · 03/03/2024 21:04

I wouldn't bother to claim for something like this. Your renewal will go up and you'll have to pay the excess anyway.

Pearl97 · 03/03/2024 21:11

A claim sends your renewal really high. I would take it back to the garage you go it form. They might help as it’s so new. I had a repair done once and then someone bashed their door into it on a car park five minutes after I’ve had it done. Car insurance goes up so much if you claim. Go and see how much it is to repair before you do anything else.

Goforitagain · 03/03/2024 21:12

I wouldn't claim because of the excess and paying extra. Is it owned by you or on a contract as it could affect the contract end with the value when you return it.

Someone scuffed my wheel arch, not deliberately but by being careless and I haven't had it fixed as knowing my luck it will happen again, very annoying though.

Scarletttulips · 03/03/2024 21:13

Depends if you have protected no claims bonus - if you do you’d can claim and your premium won’t go up.

Id consider a dash cam they’re quite cheap.

IcelandicBerry · 03/03/2024 21:15

I don't think you can decide until you have taken it to a body shop for a quote.

DoubleDenim24 · 03/03/2024 21:57

Ahhh didn’t think of the excess, yeah I will get it quoted and have it repaired independently, wouldn’t mind one neat line but they’ve really gone to town! Almost like it was targeted if that makes sense like they’ve really gone for it 😭😂 can’t decide if I wanna laugh or cry about it

Spirallingdownwards · 03/03/2024 21:59

You night be surprised at how much this can cost. Get the quote then decide

DoubleDenim24 · 03/03/2024 22:00

Hoping not much as it’s only a 2013 not brand new from the show room unfortunately 😆 took a lot of hard saving and cut backs to afford it and now I’m gutted somebody would do this

Protected no claims does not mean it won't go up. It means you protect the amount of discount. It's the discount you're protecting not the premium.

Omg that's really bad!

Goforitagain · 04/03/2024 21:14

That awful, I thought it would be one long scratch, how horrible OP

DoubleDenim24 · 04/03/2024 21:51

Being quoted between £600 & £700
apparently It wont just buff out as it’s gone too deep.
had quotes from 3 different body shops, I’m absolutely gutted

100%

Pearl97 · 04/03/2024 22:40

@Scarletttulips is right. The premium will go up significantly so you probably end up paying for the damage anyway. I’m so sorry this had happened to you.

PawsisShady · 04/03/2024 22:47

Similar happened to me. Bought a brand new car and had done about 700 miles in it

I was driving home from work late and a guy was in the middle of the road flagging me down. I slowed, he tried to get in my car and then punched it. Dented the frame. Was so angry I tailed him slowly and the police arrested him

With the car I got free insurance for a year but I didn't realise my no claims weren't protected. Lost all my no claims, over £1000 worth of damage and he had to pay me £100 which he did at £5 a month
