to think there should be no footy games on Mother’s Day (light hearted)

Light hearted:

Just seen the football game schedule for Mothers Day…….not only are the dc playing in the morning but there’s a very important (in our household) game in the afternoon that DH and one of the dc have season tickets for.
Looks like I’ll be squeezed in for a quick lunch or a late dinner. Or I might just take my DM and DMIL out for afternoon tea on our own.
Surely, they could’ve played these games the day before?

Saturday fixtures will be full. Not sure how you would squeeze Sundays games in as well

I like football though so would be a nice day out for me!

MariaVT65 · 03/03/2024 17:25

My DH gave me a card and then buggered off to his football game last year, without a gift, nothing planned for me at all. I had no family locally, was pregnant and had my 2 year old. Got invited last minute to a pity lunch by my friend. Thankfully no game on next Sunday.

Lots of mums like footie too.

not me, but you can't expect things to be cancelled on your personal preferences.

go and watch your dc play, have a nice afternoon with your own mum, haveva takeaway together at night.

MorrisZapp · 03/03/2024 17:29

DS has a huge fixture on mother's day this year. The parents are having tea and rolls before kick off, then probably drinks after. It'll be brilliant! Great bunch of people and no need for me to panic about my DM, I'll see her on another day. Past giving a hoot about being 'pampered' or whatever. I prefer treating myself.

trisky · 03/03/2024 17:30

I'm going to a basketball game on Mother's Day which is literally the last thing I want to be doing... after visiting my mum, DH mum, my 'treat' is suffering through that.

Sucks.

CabinetofMonstrosities · 03/03/2024 17:31

Hard agree

Deargodletitgo · 03/03/2024 17:31

My kids will be with their dad on mother's Day...it's just another day

RM2013 · 03/03/2024 17:31

DH coaches a couple of teams so it’s always been like this for us. I’ve actually opted to work an extra shift this Mother’s Day as Sunday pay rates are enhanced!! I’ve always had nice gifts for Mother’s Day so I don’t feel too disappointed!

geoger · 03/03/2024 17:32

I’ll be going to see the dc play and DH will be refereeing both their games. Then it’s home for lunch and the hallway will be full of muddy boots etc.
I don’t mind I was planning on seeing my mum and mum in law just thought it would’ve be nice if all went together

DC’s rugby club give out daffodils to all the mums standing pitch side in the rain/mud/cold on Mother’s Day. It’s a nice gesture.

EspressoMacchiato · 03/03/2024 17:36

This thread makes me sad

Puddypuds · 03/03/2024 17:38

My daughter's working in the local pub and husband and son will be milking cows both ends of the day. Have zero expectations for mother's day. Everyday life goes on!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/03/2024 17:39

YANBU.

There shouldn’t be any 6 Nations rugby either (also lighthearted)!

hoonicorn · 03/03/2024 17:39

My dc's hobby are doing a 6 hour outdoor activity an hours drive away on Mother's Day. Definitely organised by a man 😆

There absolutely should be football on mother’s day. 90 minutes of dad sat infront of the Tv? sounds like prime babysitting time to me 😂I actually really like the football but I also use it as an opportunity for dad and DC to spend time together so I can do what I want uninterrupted.

HelloMiss · 03/03/2024 17:41

Does life really need to stop??

Hiphopopotamonster · 03/03/2024 17:41

Not sure how it’s lighthearted to perpetuate the stereotype that sport is for men 🙄 My perfect Mother’s Day involves watching a decent rugby game.

This thread makes me sad

Why??,

BarelyLiterate · 03/03/2024 17:48

What’s so special about Mother’s Day? Or about football? 🤷🏻‍♀️

What about Father’s Day? Should there be no football matches then? What about Rugby matches on Mother’s Day? Should golf courses be closed? What about horse racing? Or parkrun? What about gyms? What about shops? Should they be closed, so mothers don’t have to work? If so what about restaurants, cafes, hotels, pubs etc etc? Are they also covered by your ‘keep Mother’s Day special’ campaign?

Alternatively, you do what you want to on Mother’s Day and let everyone else do likewise.

SirenSays · 03/03/2024 17:53

This is why I'll never have a footie family.

Me too!!

RobertaFirmino · 03/03/2024 17:59

Just go and see your own mother. You'll have a much nicer time.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 03/03/2024 18:00

I like football

CabinetofMonstrosities · 03/03/2024 18:04

Wouldn’t matter if it was football, netball, swimming, rugby or hurling - it would be nice to have the day off driving kids around on Mother’s Day!

nugnugnugs · 03/03/2024 18:14

A day of football (or darts or snooker) would be the best Mothering Sunday. YABVVVU
