to think there should be no footy games on Mother’s Day (light hearted)

Light hearted:

Just seen the football game schedule for Mothers Day…….not only are the dc playing in the morning but there’s a very important (in our household) game in the afternoon that DH and one of the dc have season tickets for.
Looks like I’ll be squeezed in for a quick lunch or a late dinner. Or I might just take my DM and DMIL out for afternoon tea on our own.
Surely, they could’ve played these games the day before?

A day of football (or darts or snooker) would be the best Mothering Sunday. YABVVVU

Well yes, I love watching it, my aged mum not so much!

And we’re hoping to have her over for a roast, but plans may well be scuppered if one of our three has a match!

YANBU.

There shouldn’t be any 6 Nations rugby either (also lighthearted)!

Hahaha...I'm going to be in Lanzarote next Sunday so hope to find a bar to watch the 6 nations. My husband and I lost our mum's within 6 months of each other so we will raise a glass. My son is in Australia on a long break and my daughter might have not realised as she's usually good at bringing cards in advance but she's horrendously busy at work so would understand if she forgot....she's done the last 30 ok so I can't complain 😁

Not sure how it’s lighthearted to perpetuate the stereotype that sport is for men 🙄 My perfect Mother’s Day involves watching a decent rugby game.

The point here is that the DC are playing football so you don't get to spend the day with them.
Which is fine if that is how you roll.
The DC could be girls, I know quite a few girls who play.

My dc don't last football, but they do play music and are competing or rehearsing in 3 different venues all weekend next weekend. Sometimes different places at the same time.

This is very sad. Lots of women like sports. If I was going to complain it would be why make the day on a Sunday? Do it on a Saturday so I can have a few drinks and a lie in the next day. Who cares that others don’t drink or work a Mon-Fri job, it’s all about meeeeee!!

I hear you! My Mum died when I was a teenager so I will also be raising a glass to her.

My (lighthearted) quibble with 6 Nations rugby being on Mother’s Day is that DH gets to go with work - all expenses paid hospitality so I’m left as taxi for our 2. I’d prefer a quiet day pottering in the garden rounded off with a nice roast all together but we’ll just put that off for a week or so.

I'll be at the game!

I hate threads like this where people object to football on mothers day but it's absolutely fine on fathers day. Mothers like football too!

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 04/03/2024 02:09

But but but....it's Ireland v England in the rugby.
Almost always the best match of the 6 Nations.

ilovesooty · 04/03/2024 02:19

Liverpool are playing Sparta Prague on Thursday night. That's why their league match is on Sunday, not Saturday.

Some mothers would like to spend time with their kids in a different way on Mothers Day rather than taking them to play football.
When both of mine played it was two different places, so one parent at each game. It also made it hard for DH to see his own mother that day, he usually had to drop over the day before.
It was only for a short time though, so I wouldn't be for banning it, it was just annoying (especially if DS sat on bench for whole game)
