To not only hate the Noodle ad, but wonder about the danger.

I do hate most advertising in truth. But the bloody Pot Noodle one with the girl in the staff break room, making and eating her ?lunch so utterly obnoxiously really really annoys me. I mute/change channel/walk away every time - and it is on so often, so this happens a lot.
But, thinking about it, how safe is it to inhale a mouthful of them like that, I can't help but wonder/imagine, IF one has a good strong "suck", tis clump of soggy flour and water (and whatever other nastiness is in there...) could shoot straight into the back of the throat, where it can't be chewed, but is probably too big to swallow.
I don't think I am BU - - but wonder if this concern has occurred to anyone else?

Sometimes there is one pea in it.

And it will be rock hard unless fully rehydrated.😂

Now THAT sounds like snobbery.
Besides, seeing the ad does not equate to it being a dietary choice,.

Not snobbery. Marketing 101.

The point being that no one working for Pot Noodle cares what the OP thinks of it. They didn't make it for her. 🤷‍♀️

Edited to say I just realised you are the OP.

TheHateIsNotGood · 25/02/2024 19:39

If the same Lady has done both the Zoopla and Pot Noodle ads then she must be known in her trade as a virtual superstar; how versatile of her to be annoying in so many advertising guises.

Probs not though, although they both do have long red hair.

TheKeatingFive · 25/02/2024 19:40

Ads often pay really well. I'm sure the actress has no regrets.

What's your point?

(Although, damn right, they didn't make it for me. I don't see why that's relevant.)

Who do you think they DID make it for?

16-25 year olds, probably students / first jobbers. Possibly a secondary target of older males?

That's what they'll care about when they look at their tracking.

The main risk created by that advert is that anyone who slurps like that in my office is going to get told in no uncertain terms to pack it in! And yes, I am well aware that in much of Asia this is the way to eat noodles, but that's clearly a Pot Noodle in Slough, and thus Japanese noodle etiquette doesn't apply!

Exactly what I said to DH. If anyone did that at my work they definitely wouldn't get to do it twice. So gross.

I cannot imagine that that demographic is watching TV with ads though.

I only watch it because I'm an old loser (but I do have AdBlockers on anything that isn't regular TV). But the ad is on EVERY break sometimes.

As I said earlier, I worked for a few years for a major food manufacturer who made the other well-known noodle snack that is prepared with ?boiling water. I never went near the part of the site where they were made, but the whole place would stink of frying when a batch was underway, and I knew enough from my spot in R&D, about what went into most of the food made there at that time. No UPFs for me, before it became a "thing".... But if disliking them is snobbery, then I suppose I am a snob, by your definition, not mine.

It's nothing really to do with the pot noodles, more to do with how you talk about it and how you respond to anyone who disagrees with you. 'As I said earlier' indeed.

TV is still the media with most reach across all age groups, though companies are having to spend

more and more for less and less return. Like most campaigns, it's multimedia - I've seen the outdoor executions for this one. The idea is the effect is cumulative.

MysteriousInspector · 25/02/2024 20:11

I nearly choked on a strip of pre-cut spring cabbage - I'd been lazy and bought it pre-prepared.

Had to pull it out of my throat like a long green noodle Shock

Break a filling if slurped as per the ad!

As advertisements go, it's grim. The last thing we need is a televised endorsement of the poor etiquette and appalling table manners which seem to be on the increase everywhere right now.

I haven't seen the ad but do worry myself about people choking over food. There have been reports of young children dying if a cherry tomato or grape gets stuck in the windpipe and also spaghetti that hasn't been cut up. My friend had to pull long strands of spaghetti out of her son's mouth once when too much went down at once. I think he was 8 or 9 at the time.

I really didn't like those competitive trends of eating as many dry cream crackers as you can or marshmallows. I just see choke hazards. Same with the people that enter competitions to eat as much food as possible in 30 mins or whatever although I have noticed they take measured bites to avoid choking.

I would definitely recommend biting into any food if I was watching this ad with a child. And explain what could happen.

I choked once with some food stuck in my throat and really thought I might die. It quite traumatised me. I hate with a passion those videos of people stuffing as much food in their mouths as possible, it’s seriously dangerous. Ever since my incident (about four years ago) I’m very mindful when eating.

CatamaranViper · 25/02/2024 22:29

I can't stand the noises people make when they slurp food or drinks. I definitely think I have misophonia because it gives me the rage (along with whistling for some reason).
That's the only reason I hate the advert. BUT now I'm talking about an advert I hate, I really want a pot noodle, so id say their advertising has worked brilliantly.

What was wrong with saying that, I didn't want to say it again as though I hadn't mentioned it already. Nothing meant by it 😊
And people can disagree as much as they like - isn't that healthy "debate"? I don't have to knuckle under though; I believe what I believe, and don't think I am wrong about this ad and the style of it, or in fact, about that type of food, and ingesting it in the way presented.
And, as has been pointed out, I am not the target demographic, so Pot Noodle won't care what I think🙄
Which is that this type of food shouldn't even exist - and advertising it being slurped disgustingly in an office setting;, or by a granny with a shrieking donkey on her shoulders isn't going to make it good food in any way, shape or form. In fact, it can probably only loosely be described as food anyway.

I don't think there is much actual chewing involved 😆

Good point. Especially as she doesn't appear to leave it long enough to soften properly so she's slurping half crunchy noodles, and that rock hard pea

Why do you ask?

I don't think I ever have bought one.....

But as I worked for the manufacturer of the other brand, I would get them at work occasionally. I think there is something in them that is addictive - I'm sure I read that somewhere....

Well, the ad was just on (muted immediately) as I typed this; I have looked up the Nutritional Information -
547 calories for that pot of deliciousness, providing 2.5g of salt,10g of saturated fat, 73g carbohydrates and 2.4g of salt. But at least there is 12g of some kind of protein, and negligible fibre.
And it is categorised as Snack, not an actual meal.
I can think of few things that I would rather eat; it probably tastes the same as the packaging.
