To not only hate the Noodle ad, but wonder about the danger.

I do hate most advertising in truth. But the bloody Pot Noodle one with the girl in the staff break room, making and eating her ?lunch so utterly obnoxiously really really annoys me. I mute/change channel/walk away every time - and it is on so often, so this happens a lot.
But, thinking about it, how safe is it to inhale a mouthful of them like that, I can't help but wonder/imagine, IF one has a good strong "suck", tis clump of soggy flour and water (and whatever other nastiness is in there...) could shoot straight into the back of the throat, where it can't be chewed, but is probably too big to swallow.
I don't think I am BU - - but wonder if this concern has occurred to anyone else?

Why does that matter?

That’s a yes then 😅

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/02/2024 15:07

On cartoons they eat dumbells and anvils and you see them going down their throats and everything. How irresponsible, people will just copy them.

nonmerci99 · 25/02/2024 15:08

What have I just read 😂

Quite a lot of hand wringing over nothing, IMO. But if we’re going to talk distasteful ads, how about the two bears discussing eating twin brothers (ad for Twix)? I appreciate morbid humour but I just found the ad gross.

Vousnepouvezpasdiscuteravecdesstupides · 25/02/2024 15:17

LighthouseTheme · 25/02/2024 14:57

Not so.
And I have not yet mentioned the brand.
The ere are other Noodle manufacturers. I know, as I used to work for another major brand, who hopped on the bandwagon.

Your original post....
Mentioned the brand
Perhaps re-read before you argue

Apologies if I misunderstood but I thought you suggesting you had a concern about how the noodles were eaten in the advert and not being safe, so anyone watching could copy and choke. Hence ‘encourage’. Or did I get it wrong?

It’s probably gross on purpose to get people talking. You made a thread about it so it’s doing its job if so.

I hate this and as well and also have to lower the volume or change channel. I did consider starting a similar thread but did think that was their aim, ie annoy people and get it talked about or trending on tiktok.

Mybusyday · 25/02/2024 15:33

I hate this advert too - I have to leave the room when it comes on!

Dontcallmescarface · 25/02/2024 17:48

That advert makes me heave. I have to mute it every time now. To me it screams " if you've been dragged up with no manners then this is the food for you".

@LighthouseTheme Rather quiet now that many pp have proved you wrong...

SoRainbowRhythms · 25/02/2024 14:26

That's how they eat ramen in Japan and Korea. It's very loud! And I didn't see anyone choking.

It's not generally tipped down the throat in one go. Chopsticks generally make an appearance and whilst there is slurping, it's not practically gargling through a clump of the things.

tomago · 25/02/2024 18:18

Just watched it and it actually invoked a physical reaction in me where I tensed up in my face

tomago · 25/02/2024 18:20

I do actually agree OP. It would be scalding hot as she hasn't left it to cool for 5 minutes.

I went out, so save the accusations.

I don't actually consider myself to have been "proved wrong".

I hate it to and the octopus energy one

Floopani · 25/02/2024 19:15

I choked on a piece of roast chicken once. Never had a problem eating a pot noodle though.

Something about your post feels a bit snobby.

Also, no nutritional value, and possibly negative "benefits".

I'm not sure there's much overlap between the target market for this ad and the Mumsnet demographic 😂

TheHateIsNotGood · 25/02/2024 19:23

Yes - a very annoying ad, probably why they made it. I can't help but imagine how the 'shoot' went - "...yes, that's fantastic love...now stuff a bunch in your mouth;....Carrie can you come and arrange the noodles please?...today if you can....And hold, keep holding...and, that's a take"

They would have got someone else to do the slurp noise I imagine. A specialist voice actor.

Sometimes there is one pea in it.

As I said earlier, I worked for a few years for a major food manufacturer who made the other well-known noodle snack that is prepared with ?boiling water. I never went near the part of the site where they were made, but the whole place would stink of frying when a batch was underway, and I knew enough from my spot in R&D, about what went into most of the food made there at that time. No UPFs for me, before it became a "thing".... But if disliking them is snobbery, then I suppose I am a snob, by your definition, not mine.

Now THAT sounds like snobbery.
Besides, seeing the ad does not equate to it being a dietary choice,.

Well yes they probably did do that Einstein aka Tomago. Maybe the noodles are created by VR when really she has a huge pr**k in her mouth, to give that suitably surprised look too [sic].

At least she can add "I'm the annoying noodle-sucking lady" to her Portfolio/CV.

I half feel sorry for the actress; it won't look good on her CV will it?
But the character annoys me so much, that's why I only half feel sorry for her.

I am sure I have seen her elsewhere. She does resemble the woman who asks what the house cost in the Zoopla ad. But the noodles hanging out of her mouth make her look more like an Oud from Doctor Who.
