No, it's not a day out because it doesn't take a day! It is a treat though, because it's so expensive

I agree with this.

UtterlyButterly2048 · 24/02/2024 17:08

No. I hate the cinema. I always get the person next to me who talks on his/her phone or who chooses to sit next to me in an empty cinema or who chomps so loudly on his/her snacks. And it always smells weird - all cinemas smell the same??
I much prefer to wait until any films come out on Sky and I can watch them at home, with no loud people and nice smells 🤣🤣🤣

It can be part of a day out, the other week when Dh was away I took Dd to a mall where she could go to softplay, have lunch, cinema, quick nip into a supermarket to pick up some bits.

cerisepanther73 · 24/02/2024 17:12

Yes i certainly do

Buy snacks elsewhere too

SplodgeOfCustard · 24/02/2024 17:15

Yes, it's really expensive and we don't often go.

BurntOrange · 24/02/2024 17:26

Near us you can buy cinema tickets for £5.99 each - I'm amazed at the £17 tickets, presumably London and the Home Counties? I'm in Manchester

Velvian · 24/02/2024 17:29

Definitely would be the day's event for ys as a family, we're really lucky where we are, all tickets £5.

gerteddy · 24/02/2024 17:29

It's a treat although to be fair our local Vue cinema is so cheap £5 each! The very close to me odeon is about £20 for an adult it is a luxe cinema with recliner chairs but still! It would be cost me over £30 for myself and 2 kids and that's without any popcorn, ice blasts etc x

riotlady · 24/02/2024 17:34

Yes it’s a treat but it’s not a “day out” because it’s not a whole day thing. A day out to me would be the zoo or a castle or something where you’re actually gone for most of the day. Trampoline park, cinema, swimming etc are nice treats but not a day out.

KvotheTheBloodless · 24/02/2024 18:23

It's definitely an occasional treat - DH says it's the only possible way to watch a whole film with me (to be fair, he's right, I'm ND and struggle sitting still doing nothing but watching unless it's a dark, quiet environment where walking about isn't acceptable).

It's not cheap though, and usually I'd rather have a meal out, go for a bike ride, go climbing or whatever.

I don't consider it a day out but a treat with lunch or something.

My local Odeon is between £5-£18 a ticket depending on what you're seeing and at what time. I don't know anyone who pays full price though. There's various discounts available from BLC, Amazon Prime, Cinema Society etc. No one I know has paid full price in ages. You can tell the difference now as the cinema is busy again. When you could only get Orange Wednesdays/Meerkat Movies, it was dead when it wasn't offer day. It's fairly busy all the time now.

There's also the CEA or access card for disabled people, it allows a free ticket for an essential companion or carer.
