Or not

Freetodowhatiwant · 24/02/2024 16:02

When we go I make it a day out, walking either there or back along the seafront and having some food. Expensive though! Usually a rainy day weekend as I don't want to miss out on the fresh air and sunshine by being cooped up in the cinema.

PossumintheHouse · 24/02/2024 15:19

Errr yes? Cinema and either lunch beforehand or dinner afterwards is my idea of a lovely day out.

Mine too!

LilBus · 24/02/2024 16:03

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 24/02/2024 16:00

Yeah, £4.99 at our local Vue if you buy online.

DinnaeFashYersel · 24/02/2024 16:03

Yes or night out

Bluegetaniums · 24/02/2024 16:05

Probably not a whole day, but it would be an 'evening out'

professorcunning · 24/02/2024 16:07

A day out to me is something you spend all day at and I've never actually taken my children to the cinema, it's too expensive and too loud.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 24/02/2024 16:09

LilBus · 24/02/2024 16:03

.

I wasn't doubting you!

I think it's shocking how expensive it is in some parts of the country. I'd never go if it cost that much money.

kitsuneghost · 24/02/2024 16:09

usernother · 24/02/2024 15:44

Ours is £4.99 a ticket. I wouldn't pay £17!!

Is that like a Wednesday lunchtime thing or concession or mobile phone deal?

MCOut · 24/02/2024 16:12

No because of the time it takes but I’m really lucky, my local cinema tickets are still £6-£8. Also a Vue.

Untilitisnt · 24/02/2024 16:15

No, it's lazy and not a day
Plus a cinema is just a revolting noisy, smelly, food-fuelled nightmare these days

Multipleexclamationmarks · 24/02/2024 16:17

A bit of a treat, yes. A day out, no.
Ours is about a fiver a ticket here and with meercat deal it's 2 for 1 so not expensive.

DragonFly98 · 24/02/2024 16:18

Yes

Singleandproud · 24/02/2024 16:19

No our local (5 min and 10 min drive) cinemas are £4.99 a ticket we go regularly and its just DD and myself. The larger cinemas in the city are an hour each way so more of a day out timewise or If we were a larger family and it cost £££ then yes.

We go to the theatre roughly once a month, that's more of a treat if combined with a meal out. I have a Friend's of the theatre card so for £25 a year, I get 50% of the first night of productions or other discounts for other days so makes it very affordable

DD is autistic, only does rugby as a extra curricular which is cheap so I see regular cinema and theatre like an additional extra curricular that we both enjoy, it's our 'thing' and we massively missed it during COVID.

ToftySheepdog · 24/02/2024 16:20

The price differences in tickets are astonishing!

KimberleyClark · 24/02/2024 16:22

Early dinner followed by a film is a nice evening out.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/02/2024 16:29

I don't consider it a day out but a treat with lunch or something.

My local Odeon is between £5-£18 a ticket depending on what you're seeing and at what time. I don't know anyone who pays full price though. There's various discounts available from BLC, Amazon Prime, Cinema Society etc. No one I know has paid full price in ages. You can tell the difference now as the cinema is busy again. When you could only get Orange Wednesdays/Meerkat Movies, it was dead when it wasn't offer day. It's fairly busy all the time now.

Rocknrolla21 · 24/02/2024 16:34

£50 for 1 adult and 3 children for me. £65 if able to come. It is a day out for us, but the travelling takes a while as we take a bus into town so an hour travelling each way (£12 family bus ticket). We go to the poundshop first to stock up on cheap popcorn and drinks. We’ll get to the cinema early and watch all the adverts and little cartoons before so we’re in the building for around 3 hours. Depending we might stop at the pound baker's after if anyone’s hungry for proper food, or the spoons if me and dh want a pint before we go home. We’re out the majority of the day and it can cost us over £100 despite us trying to do everything as cheaply as possible

Caroparo52 · 24/02/2024 16:39

No.
It's an evening out for me as I have a Limitless Odeon card so average cost of a visit is £5.00 based on 2 visits per month

usernother · 24/02/2024 16:42

@kitsuneghost Is that like a Wednesday lunchtime thing or concession or mobile phone deal?

It's every day, all films. You can get more expensive seats if you want to, but even the most expensive tickets are £8.99. Some of the tickets for children's films are as cheap as £2.49. are depending when it is. I only book online so not sure if it costs more to pay by cash. Vue cinemas. They are great.

Fizbosshoes · 24/02/2024 16:48

It's not a full day out but to me, it's a treat in that last weekend we went for brunch, cinema and looked in a few shops (me and 2 teens) so I considered that we had "done sonething nice" that day.
If they were younger cinema + meal would be a days activity in that,we wouldn't go anywhere else/spend anything else that day, although not technically "a day out".

FussyPud · 24/02/2024 16:50

It’s £6 here, so not really, no.

No, it’s that price all of the time near me, in London. Absolutely shocked at the cost for some posters! It’s our cheap thing to do, I wouldn’t bother if it was £17 pp!!

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 24/02/2024 16:59

kitsuneghost · 24/02/2024 16:09

For us it's the price whatever time or day. You do have to pay online but even in person it's only £1 more.

IamaRevenant · 24/02/2024 17:01

On its own it's a treat for sure but not a day out. Maybe combined with lunch out or going somewhere new or different for a wander first? Last time I went to the cinema we went to Bath (I do know Bath well but live in Bristol) and had lunch and a walk around the centre and the botanical gardens etc before the cinema (smuggled in food and drinks to keep costs down haha). That was definitely a day out 😊

TheChosenTwo · 24/02/2024 17:06

I certainly don’t see it as a treat because I don’t like watching films, always fall asleep!
And my dc are old enough to go without me now thank Christ.
But it’s not a day out, films are rarely longer than 2 hours aren’t they?
Mind you, I suppose it depends on how long it takes you to get to the cinema, I have a choice of 3 within about a 15 minute drive so it’s reeeeally not a day out, even with lunch or dinner it’s a few hours at a push.
