To ask how long you’ve been waiting for your motability vehicle?

We’ve been waiting for nearly 12 months for our motability car to be delivered. If you have a motability car can I ask how long it took to delivery from signing up to the scheme?

Wow really? I’ve been giving hardly any info over the whole process just a now we have go ahead for next step and Been waiting to see one car they think be suitable. We don’t get to choose for a WAV with a grant far as I can tell.

Is that backload from Manufacturer or just hold up getting to the specialist to adapt once it delivered? Really trying not to get my hopes up but is hard going when your award time keeps ticking out of time.

orangeleopard · 23/02/2024 20:17

I received my new one last year but it took over 9 months from ordering to receiving it! although, when my mum was ordering hers she spent a long time contacting every local dealership to find a motability car that was in stock so she didn’t have to wait as long.

Pigeonqueen · 23/02/2024 20:19

Completely depends on what you’ve ordered and the manufacturer. I’m on a busy motability Facebook group and we’ve got people who’ve been able to collect their car days later if it’s been in stock (!) to people waiting a year.

We’re waiting on a Kia Sportage. Ordered in December and told July ish. It’s our second Sportage on the scheme, first one only took a few weeks!

onemoretine · 23/02/2024 20:28

Ordered one July 2022 didn't get it till July 2023, it's a Ford.

My husbands ordered a motability car today and they have told him 3-4 months, his current lease isn't up till May anyway.

Jagley · 23/02/2024 21:53

Ordered March 2022 and got it March 2023, that was Ford, our first motability car, worth the wait though.

I think we are down for a VW Crafter, I know when they came out to do the assessment they said the wait was 12 - 18 months, at this rate his DLA will be up for renewal before he gets his vehicle.

stomachamelon · 23/02/2024 22:10

I think (as far as I know) you must have six months clear on your award when car is delivered.

SearchingForSolitude · 23/02/2024 22:20

New members to the scheme need 12 months left when they order. This is no longer a requirement for existing members to order their next vehicle.

Motabilityblues · 24/02/2024 09:40

Thanks for everyone sharing it does seem very mixed, and very dependent on what sort of vehicle you need. I think communication seems fairly poor and I do wonder how visible delays are and how avoidable. It would be useful if lead times (approximate) were searchable.

Volkswagen finally got back to us today, it’s not great news, at least another three months. Is the delay huge for all 7 seaters?

Friend got hers within 4 weeks and totally changed her life...she was very flexible re the car and just said whatever is available....she just wanted to be able to get out of the house..she still not able to get out certain days but has the ability to get out on good days something she couldn't before as cant stand to wait for a bus. It's life changing and worth the wait.

I know someone who needs at least 7 seats (pregnancy number 3 resulted in triplets) and they couldn't source a car to accommodate the household.

Motabilityblues · 28/02/2024 22:44

There are several 7 seater (+) on the scheme @snoopyfanaccountant but delivery times vary between manufacturers and appear to be longer for larger vehicles.

OP posts:
SearchingForSolitude · 29/02/2024 11:39

All 7+ seaters have a long wait unless you are lucky enough to get a cancellation.

Motabilityblues · 29/02/2024 15:44

That’s interesting @SearchingForSolitude I wonder why?

OP posts:
SearchingForSolitude · 29/02/2024 19:56

Fewer 7+ seaters are on the scheme compared to the large range of 5 seaters, so anyone who needs 7+ seats or are larger boot is ‘competing’ for fewer cars.

Spanglemum75 · 29/02/2024 20:09

My husband and daughter both have motability cars. We phoned round dealers and Citroën had stock. My husband's was in the showroom as some one else had cancelled. We waited a few weeks for daughter's C3.

FallingDownARabbitHole · 29/02/2024 20:12

Our car was ordered sept 23. Car would be due jan 24 but was told would be 6 months. Given estimate of march 24. Got a call dec that car had arrived. Picked it up in jan 24.

Motabilityblues · 23/02/2024 17:51

No just a tow bar, but it’s a 7 seater as we need a bigger inside.

Mines is also a 7 seater. A Dacia

Does it work like that really? Are there set numbers of each type of car the manufacturers commit to? I thought they had some stock but some were made to your spec (as they are if you order a new car normally). I thought the delay was a manufacturing one?

Edited

I think you have misunderstood what I meant. If there are fewer types of 7+ seaters compared to 5+ seaters the demand/competition for 7+ seaters is going to be comparatively higher than the average demand for a 5 seater because there is less choice. So the waiting time will go up because more people are waiting for that specific type of car.

BakedTattie · 29/02/2024 20:50

We waited 7 month for our WAV. Then there was a month delay, we were made aware on the day it was supposed to be delivered. Very annoying.

BrummyMommy · 29/02/2024 21:10

My daughter ordered a Vauxhall in August and we're still waiting for delivery. Phoned for an update a couple of weeks ago and they said it's built and just waiting to ship so hopefully not too much longer to wait now

Lazypeopledrivemecrazy · 29/02/2024 21:24

I ordered a Peugeot 5008 (7 seat) in December 2023 and am expecting it the end of March - early April this year, at this stage. Looked at cars like the Nissan X Trail, 7 seater, but that was 1 year wait, so looked at other 7 seaters and preferred the Peugeot anyway, so ordered it. I think it's kind of luck of the draw at the moment OP. However, I've had 4 Motability cars up to now, and Motability themselves have always bent over backwards to be helpful, I think the car delays are simply out of their control. Bear in mind that the second hand car market went wild a while back, due to not being able to get new vehicles for love nor money, so I don't really see why Motability vehicles would be any different.
