To ask how long you’ve been waiting for your motability vehicle?

Motabilityblues · 23/02/2024 16:58

We’ve been waiting for nearly 12 months for our motability car to be delivered. If you have a motability car can I ask how long it took to delivery from signing up to the scheme?

I have no experience of Motability but seeing comments on one of the car manufacturers' social media regarding the delivery of Motability cars, I suspect that the issue is with the manufacturer rather than Motability.
My SIL ordered a new car from Toyota in March 2022 with a delivery date of June 2022; she took delivery at the beginning of December 2022.

Motabilityblues · 23/02/2024 17:06

I think it’s both a manufacturing AND a motability problem in that I feel like maybe they make the motability cars after those that are ordered outside of the scheme. The dealers seem unable to even guess when the cars might be delivered which seems weird.

I had Motability cars - the longest waited was 6 weeks. Contact them.

Motabilityblues · 23/02/2024 17:17

@Boomer55 have you had a new car in the last 12 months?

Whatsherusername · 23/02/2024 17:17

Mine took a month as it was in stock, last August, was told it would be 6 months ish of not in stock. A friend ordered hers last September and picked it up this week. Mine was a ford friends was a kid if that helps

AgnesX · 23/02/2024 17:19

My sister has been waiting for one for her daughter since last August. It's getting delivered next week (I think it's at a port just now?).

MooThePug · 23/02/2024 17:26

Mine is a Vauxhall. Ordered it (SE) and it took six months roughly although they said it could take up to a year.

MamaDollyorJesus · 23/02/2024 17:33

I was 6 weeks in 2021because I was happy to accept any colour & they had one in Aberdeen.

It's due for renewal in June & I fully expect the new one to have a 74 number plate - must get looking at cars this weekend.

Motabilityblues · 23/02/2024 17:42

Wow it seems like ours is taking much much longer than anyone else’s.

Our new car was about 8 weeks late. Our dealer told us it would be, so we were in the loop.

It's our third Motability vehicle. The first two came on time.

Tel12 · 23/02/2024 17:46

Easiest thing to do is phone the car showrooms and find out what motability cars they have in stock. There's then no wait at all. Obviously if you want something specific then there's a wait.

TheShellBeach · 23/02/2024 17:46

Does your car need a lot of adaptations? That can cause it to be held up.

Motabilityblues · 23/02/2024 17:51

No just a tow bar, but it’s a 7 seater as we need a bigger inside.

It’s less about “wanting something specific” and more about needing it.

We ordered ours on the 1st June and it just arrived yesterday

SearchingForSolitude · 23/02/2024 18:02

There’s your answer. It is a 7 seater which have longer waits. A year or even longer isn’t uncommon for 7 seaters at the moment.

WiddlinDiddlin · 23/02/2024 18:05

Yup, I have waited six and eight months for bigger vehicles and then add on a few months after that for adaptations to the most recent one.

In my case, no option but to wait for it as that was (in both cases) the only make/model that met my needs.

Mine was due for renewal last September and I was strongly encouraged to extend the lease which I was hoping to do anyway since it has very low mileage and I’d put a largish amount upfront for various optional extras.

Cars rarely need replacing after 3 years surely?

Sorry OP, no help to you!

Lanawashington · 23/02/2024 18:10

My dad ordered his in March 2022. It kept being delayed and delayed, he eventually got it in October last year

MamaDollyorJesus · 23/02/2024 18:14

@MatildaTheCat the car is actually for my mum & she's struggling to get in & out of it these days as it's a bit too high but a normal car is too low so we'll be looking for one with a height adjustable passenger seat.

I went to the event in Edinburgh last year & every vendor said the same thing all cars looking at about 6 month minimum wait.

MatildaTheCat · 23/02/2024 18:21

@MamaDollyorJesus oh crumbs that sounds very specific. I hope you can get it sorted out. If she finds the perfect car I’d recommend hanging onto it 😊

Akire · 23/02/2024 18:26

Been wanting to ask this myself my mobility journey has taken forever already.

Been in system 18months going through grants and hand control codes on my DL. Looking at a WAV next week to see if met my needs but then I’m guessing have to order it new at least 6months. Then as they take the brand new car and remove the floor to lower it add automatic ramp… another 3 months at mim. Then I need few lessons with disability trained instructor make sure I’m comfortable it’s going be another year I’m guessing. Was hoping wouldn’t have a third Xmas waiting to drive again

Pumpkinpie1 · 23/02/2024 18:42

A week
Took one of the forecourt , a better spec and cheaper deal than in brochure- meant I couldn’t pick colour , but that did t bother me

Motabilityblues · 23/02/2024 19:16

oh @Akire that sounds a very long wait. I hope they get to you soon.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 23/02/2024 19:29

I applied for a grant back in Sept, it has been awarded but I haven't even been able to order yet due to the backlog in WAVs.
