What little things make you happy?

Feeling a bit stuck in a rut, I don’t think the time of year helps but I want to start making little changes to get my sparkle back. Any ideas? What little things do you do to perk yourself up?

A few nights in my bell tent, out in nature no matter what the weather. I am a bad sleeper but a few nights in the tent seems to reset my sleep pattern. sleeping and waking to the sounds of nature, the sunrise and sunset.

Cuddling my kids. Nothing makes happiness flow through my body like snuggling up with one or both of them. I am absolutely dreading them getting to an age where I don’t get daily cuddles!

Getting my nails done regularly. Makes me really happy choosing a different colour and style each time, and getting to see pretty nails for the following 3 weeks 😁

Going trail running with my dog on a sunny day 😎
A walk with friends.
Good coffee.
A good book.
Sitting in front of the log burner on a cold day with my cat 🐈‍⬛ (she’s very old)
Visiting my parents (very lucky to still have them)
A cuddle with my son.

Saladcreamdreams · 22/02/2024 22:14

Fresh coffee and a bunch of daffodils

Getting the dogs out into the countryside (do this most days); I see a lot of birds and wildlife, and note the slow change of the seasons.
Zoom call with my best mate who I don't see often enough.
Finishing a crochet or knitting project.
Swimming in the local river (summer only - in fact, hot days in summer only!)
Planting bulbs or seeds; doing that is nearly as good as watching them grow, because you have the anticipation.

Planting seeds- plenty can go in now. Cuddle with one of the cats. A walk in open countryside. Cooking

Being a volunteer walker for rescue dogs.
Absolutely love it - and so do they 🐾!

A walk down by the canal
Going for coffee with friend.
Singing with my choir.
Watching a bit of telly like a daft whodunnit or Great Potter Throwdown.
A good book with a cat on my lap.

Walking along the riverside ,after work ,with with my lovely little patterdale terrier ,hearing the birds and knowing that better (spring /summer ) days are coming .
Smile
Can't walk there after work in winter because it's so dark .

Replacing something that's knackered with an upgraded model. My wicker linen basket was shedding for years; constantly having to snip bits off / sweep up sticks and it looked so ratty.

My brand new John Lewis (!!!) version is so smart and shiny I smile every time I have a wee (because it's in the bathroom not because I wee into the new linen basket!)

Simply lying in bed, snuggled under my duvet thinking how grateful I am to have a roof over my head and a warm comfortable bed

OneToThree · 22/02/2024 23:14

I actually thought about this today.
Mine is a good documentary and a tasty lunch.

OriginalFloorboards · 22/02/2024 23:17

Definitely a good book, bath and my cats and dogs around me.

Particularly clean sheets.

Going outside to see my horses and listen to them chomp their hay (my husband’s eating noises though aren’t the same!).

Opening up a new body cream.

Lighting the log burner.

The first proper coffee out of the machine in the morning after mucking out.

Mushrooms in butter on toast (I know, I know…not healthy) and eating raw ones after peeling and chopping.

The early sunrise and the bird songs when I turn the horses out (and the peace outside).

Pheasants running in the paddocks. I always shout ‘hello Phillip!’ to every one.

I think I’m quite sad actually reading this list, but they are things that make me happy 😃

A morning cup of tea in bed makes me inordinately happy.

’Luxury nights’ - a long bath with all the nice bubbles, soap and a glass of wine then ages at my dressing table moisturising body and face, followed by an early night with a book and some relaxing music.

Looking at my husband and fancying him just as much now as when we first met 18 years ago.

Giving the cat a brush and seeing his little face looking all content and hearing him purring like crazy.

Improving my fitness by making constant little changes to my lifestyle. I’ve learned to love the squats!

Getting a pedicure.

Minimili · 22/02/2024 23:36

It’s interesting how many people’s happy moments are solo activities or involve animals.
I started to think about mine and realised that mine are all similar- reading a good book, having a bath with aromatherapy oils, swimming with my waterproof headphones and listening to an audiobook, having a massage…

Very few people mentioned phoning or FaceTiming a friend, going to a friends house for a chat or even walking with a friend or partner. I wonder if these are automatically assumed or we just all value our own company?

Noseybookworm · 22/02/2024 23:36

Yoga class
Freshly made bed after a long hot shower
Walk in the woods
A bowl of homemade beef in ale and cheesy mash
Watching a good comedy boxset (just finished Catastrophe - brilliant!)

LouLou198 · 22/02/2024 23:51

Switching from tea bags to loose tea; good skincare routine, regular swimming.

Thisol · 23/02/2024 02:03

Improving things in my home. It's often something small, but brings me much joy

Holding my cat like a baby and smelling her fur

Lying in bed for long periods, awake, just thinking or browsing on phone. Hot water bottle on my feet

When my kids are being good, doing homework. Good attendance at college etc

Decluttering and simplifying my house. I find it really calming

Tidy and organised living

Living frugally

Sitting in the garden on one of my comfy chairs. Feeling the warm sun on my face. Coffee in hand

Listening to the birds, the trees and having neighbourhood cats come to visit me

Most of my happy moments are in my home. I'm single, so feel free and independent. I love it

A walk when it’s dry followed by a nice latte and a cake in a cafe
