NC

School have emailed today and all the children in DD class will be learning to cook a pasta salad one morning next week.(it is part of their topic)

A lovely person who runs cookery classes is coming in to take the session.

Parents have been asked to pay £13 per child.

AIBU to think this excessive?!

I wouldn't pay £13 for pasta salad in a restaurant. That is insane. I'd keep your DD off school and show her how to make pasta salad yourself, then the whole family can have it for tea at a cost of about £1 per person.

@Pastasaladage I've checked all the school Comms about it and it is £13.04pp have you questioned it with the school yet??

BobbyBleu · 20/02/2024 22:20

I'm a terrible cook and even I can make a basic pasta salad. I can't imagine they'd be cooking anything really fancy in it?
Surely the class teacher could do a basic pasta salad?

PastelMonkey · 20/02/2024 22:33

That's ridiculous.
I have twins so this would cost me £26.08 for some pasta salad Confused

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 20/02/2024 22:34

Could you enquire as to why it’s so expensive?

I'm loving all the suggestions that teachers could teach cookery. MIL was a primary deputy head for 30 years. Despite having a family she could not and would not cook. I asked her to put some rice on once. She'd never cooked rice, ditto I once asked her to par boil some spuds for roasties so she left them in the boiled water to go to mush! I know not all teachers are the same, but it's a massive assumption.

Well many teachers don't know coding or woodwork skills but we still have to teach computing and DT. You just have to get on with it. I've done basically this lesson but made a pasta sauce. Had a volunteer to help. It was just part of the curriculum and not charged for.

Did you get anywhere with enquiring about the cost @Pastasaladage ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2024 06:42

Yes would love an update . What happened

Why do they need to get someone in to teach the children how to make pasta salad? How hard can it be for the teacher to read a recipe?
