..it's only chocolate, not crack, and it's only once a year! They'll stuff themselves silly today, then probab ly not want any more tomorrow - you can make the left overs into krispie cakes, or the Hugh F-W creating someone's linked to - but what on earth is wrong with one glorious chocolate binge once a year?

Absolutely nothing.....mind you I am not a chocoholic and would much prefer if Easter was all about getting McCoys crisps!

MrsWeasley · 23/03/2008 21:44

If you let them eat all the eggs there won't be any for you to sneek when they have gone to bed

2shoes · 23/03/2008 21:44

yanbu
but nor are they. each to their own

seeker · 23/03/2008 21:46

Don't be so reasonable, 2shoes - this is a rant thread!

ds hid his before he went to bed. He knows his mother too well!

EyeballsintheSky · 23/03/2008 21:47

Seeker, you a highly reasonable person and I salute you. I am on the verge of giving up MN as it seems that anything fun is wrong. It's so depressing and I thank goodness that I have a mind of my own and can remember what it was like to be a kid.

They will not die if they eat quite a lot of chocolate for two days of the year.

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 21:50

Ds and I have just shared a massive egg, he had the egg and I had the chocolates out of them. We curled up on my bed ( dh is on nights) and ate it all whilst watching Top Gear. And it was fab!!!!!!
And I don't feel in the slightest bit bad about it!!

HappyMummyOfOne · 23/03/2008 21:56

Easter to me a a child meant chocolate and more chocolate. Its once a year and not everyday.

DS had a great time when we did the egg hunt and fun eating them after. I dont want him to look back and think mum never let us have chocolate at easter.

As long as children have a healthy diet for the majority of the time, treats dont hurt. Far better than growing up with food problems in later life.

As for those that are hiding them/binning them, how ungrateful.

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 21:59

Abso, bloody, lutely!

Stuff as many as you can in thats my motto.

Gosh we did as kids! Cant beleive these parents that hide/take em off kids.

Its only really Easter and Christmas that you have so much chocolate isnt it?

My ds has ate shitloads today!

Psychomum5 · 23/03/2008 21:59

well.....one of my good friends told me that kids and sweets go together like fish and chips.

not quite something I agree with as I am a stickler normally for no sweets at all, but easter, xmas, b'days and halloween are the 4 times I relent!!!!

2shoes · 23/03/2008 22:01

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 22:05

Lol 2shoes

Even my little 6mth ds2 had choc today

amytheearwaxbanisher · 23/03/2008 22:06

my ds had one for breakfast....he is still alive

Candlewax · 23/03/2008 22:09

My husband sent my 16 year old daughter a link to the pagan rituals of Easter. She still ate her Easter eggs! Live and let live. Chocolate treats once a year will not hurt (unless they are allergic).

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 22:11

This society has effectively sucked all the magic out of every day life by demonising just about everything but the two True Gods: money and self.

It's depressing as fuck.

Of all the things to demonise: a little too much chocolate a few days out of the year.

No wonder children are growing up so fucking miserable and humourless more and more.

catsmother · 23/03/2008 22:12

That sounds like a great night to me Ladymariner !

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 22:15

It was! Snuggling up with ds was lovely and in the dark recesses of my mind I also held the thought - chocolate and Hammond....aahhhh

SugarBird · 23/03/2008 23:30

My teenage dc still love easter eggs and why not? They eat pretty healthily most of the time. I have been on a strict low-carb diet for months and have had a delicious choccy blowout today (it's my birthday as well so double excuse...) and I think knowing I can have treats sometimes keeps me on the straight and narrow the rest of the time.

I couldnt take presents bought my kds off em and chuck them! How mean is that! And ungrateful

I think if something is bought as a present, even if its not something you would usually buy youself, then let them have it!

MaureenMLove · 24/03/2008 10:04

Well I didn't buy my dd an egg. Waste of money in my opinion. Waste of money before Easter Sunday that is. She only likes 70% choc, so I'm off to get her one half price in Sainsbury right now!
