..it's only chocolate, not crack, and it's only once a year! They'll stuff themselves silly today, then probab ly not want any more tomorrow - you can make the left overs into krispie cakes, or the Hugh F-W creating someone's linked to - but what on earth is wrong with one glorious chocolate binge once a year?

My two had half an egg on saturday as DP's mum bought them some stuff over and I would've let them eat their others yesterday but they went to a party and couldn't eat anything more as they had gorged themselves on other crap.

They'll be tucking into them quite a bit today I assume and for the next few days, but I only spread them out so it lasts longer (and am slightly concerned after allowing DD to eat anything she wanted at xmas and spending the evening cleaning sick off of our hall, stairs and landing ) I couldn't give two hoots how much choc they eat at easter.

I like a good chocolate binge as do most people and it only really happens twice in a year.
Easter and Christmas.

But what I think is ridiculous is when you have quite a big family and they all decide to buy easter eggs for the kids.
Luckily our family were sensible this year and the kids got clothes and just a little bit of chocolate, but a friend of mine has 1 19 month old dd and she got 8 eggs and 2 for herself.

Why does an 19 month old need 8 easter eggs.
Its beyond stupid.

I have never, ever as a child or adult been sick as a result of eating too much choc. Neither has my ds! Been full, or sick of the taste yes, but not actually vomited.

Think you only usually vomit if you are poorly

I dont feel guilty about what i do. Ds hasnt even asked for any choc today, probably fed up of it himself.

Greyriverside · 24/03/2008 10:18

Easter is about getting chocolate eggs

I love to see the joy kids show at getting presents of any kind and can't see a reason to deny them. Expecially now there's evidence to say that the sugar rush thing was a false alarm.
They will get excited over such things anyway, but it's worth it.

Not sure about giving lots of eggs to a baby, but I expect a toddler would enjoy the taste and pretty wrapping.

As for their teeth it strikes me that to do harm it has to STAY on their teeth. So a quick brush afterwards would take care of that.

Mine had a breakfast today that consisted of alternate bites of granary toast and marmite and Lindt chocolate bunny. Brown food is good for you, isn't it?

Carmen, at xmas DD was sick because of eating too much, no other syptoms, just sick.
She had eaten a huge breakfast at PiL's which I hadn't really seen how much had been eaten as I was trying to get MiL to allow me to help her clean up!
She then had a starter and a MASSIVE xmas dinner and xmas pudding (probably more than DP and he is a greedy git) and on top of that goodness knows how many chocs/biscuits/cake etc.
Put DS to bed and she asked if she could have another biscuit, we said yes, and within about a minute she vomited everywhere and then tried to run up the stairs to get to the bathroom leaving a trail behind her.
There was nothing else wrong with her, it was pure greed.

I wouldn't have (much) of a problem with Easter eggs at easter, or bunnies or anything fitting.

What I'm not understanding is why relatives are sending toys, clothes and cheques to my children? It's not their birthday, it's not Christmas, it's not, so far as I know, an Easter tradition.

Why?

And I've bought bugger all for anybody else.

VictorianPASqualor · 24/03/2008 10:28

I was quite impressed that my DC's didn't get overly spolit yesterday tbh, normally when they go to the out-laws they get all sorts of crap, but thankfully they only came home with three easter eggs. oh and a card....

loopylou6 · 24/03/2008 10:29

although i allow my dcs a few easter eggs, i do prefer that some toys/clothes are given instead of all that chocolate that ends up rotting in my fridge

Greyriverside · 24/03/2008 10:32

It's an excuse to do what they wanted to do anyway. Give presents to kids.

As for 'fitting' I know what you mean, but 'fitting' for christians wouldn't be eggs at all just prayer.

For certain pagan religions it would be about worshipping the goddess astarte/Eostre (hence the eggs to symobolise fertility/growth)

Fitting for the rest of us is mostly about seeing the kids happy and arranging family get togethers

carmenelectra · 24/03/2008 10:33

Fair enough VS! mAYBE my ds is even more of a pig than your dd then if hes not sick

And i agree re: the present thingy at Easter, where has all that come from?

Kids now get like games and money for Easter. Agree its not their birthday so why, exactly? No wonder kids dont realise what its all about.

EasterBunnylicious · 24/03/2008 10:33

There'ssomething so yummy about egg shaped chocolate...

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 24/03/2008 10:34

I agree Seeker. My children had loads of chocolate yesterday and now the rest will be rationed out for the next few weeks. They always have 5 or more fruit and veg a day get fresh air and exercise daily so what's the problem with a bit of chocolate at Easter? Isn't chocolate full of iron anyways?

carmenelectra · 24/03/2008 10:36

Thought it was too good to be true. My ds has now asked for an egg! Just had a bit of kit kat shell! Dont mind though, he has had two breakfasts and some apple juice already!
