To use other people’s bins

Kind of lighthearted ( time on my hands right now ! )

When you walk your dog and he does his business - do you ever put it in other peoples bins when you’ve picked it up ? I’m talking about the household bins that are outside the drives on the street - usually ready for collection ?

I don’t do this . I pick it up in a poop bag and carry it until I’m at a public bin . However , I have seen other dog walkers do this ( it’s clear it’s not their bin , as they walk straight paT and just throw it in the bin . I’ve also seen people do it in my bin . It doesn’t bother me in the slightest - I have a dog so that’s where it all goes anyway , but I would feel really rude to put it in someone else’s bin .

No real point to this - I wouldn’t start doing it if the consensus was that it’s fine to , I just wouldn’t feel right - but I just wondered what others think .

I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t care if someone used our bin for this but we have dogs.

I don't put MY dog poop in my bin. It goes in a dog/public bin on a walk. I'd be fuming if someone put it in mind!
I don't mind rubbish in the general rubbish bin if neighbours bins are full, but one arse used to chuck stuff in the recycling bins and then we'd get warnings!!
Also I once had a bag with a dead pigeon in put in our bin, over an 8ft wall with locked gate. I had to phone council to see what I should do and was told to leave it!

What about if your dog does his business in your garden , where do you put that ? Genuinely curious .

I didn’t know what to do with that at first , I worried that it would make the bins smell if I’m putting it in their just after they’ve been collected ( we walk him daily , a few times , but sometimes he does it when we let him out in the garden instead of on his walk ) but there is nothing else I can do with it . The neighbours have a bin in the joint entry that I’m pretty sure is for their dogs mess - it never smells , but I do wonder how they then get rid of it from there

@LanaL apparently it is an offence to use another person's bin for your rubbish!!!!

I did not know that! Like I say it’s not something I would ever do , but I’ve seen people do it

It's not something I'd get wound up about. I'd rather someone used my bin ready for collection than left the poo on the street.

Sorry @LanaL but not sure which vote means what?

It's absolutely grim-I have had poo bags in my bin which have either not been tied tightly or split-then I have to deal with someone else's dog shit. My bins are also collected fortnightly and in the summer the flies are awful if there is dog poo in them for 2 weeks.

It is rude and entitled and I do despair that some people have dogs if they can't manage this job.

Dispose in public bin, poo bin or take it home and put it in your own rubbish bin.

I didn’t think about that when I posted so I’m not sure 🤣 I guess “ is it unreasonable to put dog poo in other people’s bins “ ?

@LanaL you didn't think about what?

My general rubbish is collected every two weeks...do you think two weeks in a black bin in full sun won't smell or attract flies?
That walking past it doesn't make you want to vomit? That every time I need to put a bag in I have to cover my face?

That the shit bags never get removed, as they stick to the bottom of the bin....No tipping from the bin machine will do that.

Honestly, if you're too lazy to take your dogs shit home and dispose if it yourself, then don't have a dog

I have to say , I live in an area with a LOT of dog walkers . Nice area , but lots of dogs and there is always dog mess around. It’s horrible . I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve had to clean the children’s shoes. But there are barely any public bins around ! On the loop I do - quite a big loop - there are 2 bins . Regulary I’ll have to carry a bag of dog mess around with me pretty much the whole walk . There is also an overpowering smell of dog crap at a certain point on our road - always by a certain house - there are no horrible or messy looking houses around but just this overpowering smell 😞

We went on a very long walk the other day - my dog did his business about 10 minutes into the walk . I then had to hold the bag for about 30 minutes until I got home as I hadn’t found a bin so it went into my own outside bin . Then as if some kind of reverse Karma , when we got home and I had just been able to let go of the stinky bag and put it in the bin , what did I hear ?? “ Mom I’ve stepped in dog 💩 “ - yes , right outside my house someone else’s dog had made a mess that had not been cleaned up and I had to then clean it off my child’s shoe !
