To use other people’s bins

Kind of lighthearted ( time on my hands right now ! )

When you walk your dog and he does his business - do you ever put it in other peoples bins when you’ve picked it up ? I’m talking about the household bins that are outside the drives on the street - usually ready for collection ?

I don’t do this . I pick it up in a poop bag and carry it until I’m at a public bin . However , I have seen other dog walkers do this ( it’s clear it’s not their bin , as they walk straight paT and just throw it in the bin . I’ve also seen people do it in my bin . It doesn’t bother me in the slightest - I have a dog so that’s where it all goes anyway , but I would feel really rude to put it in someone else’s bin .

No real point to this - I wouldn’t start doing it if the consensus was that it’s fine to , I just wouldn’t feel right - but I just wondered what others think .

I'd rather someone used my bin for this than have to walk past bags of dog poo tied up in bushes. I really don't understand people who go to the trouble of bagging it up but then don't throw it away. Better to just leave it entirely than to do that.

RandomUsernameHere · 13/02/2024 16:26

Putting dog poo in someone else's bin is absolutely vile. I'd have no problem with people putting small bits of litter in mine though.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 13/02/2024 16:31

@LanaL apparently it is an offence to use another person's bin for your rubbish!!!!

MrsMuji · 13/02/2024 16:40

Well, what I don’t know doesn’t hurt me, dh & I don’t exactly inspect the bins once they go out on bin day. However, I would rather people didn’t toss their dogs stinky turds in my bin.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 13/02/2024 16:44

Don't put your dogs shit in my property unless you fancy me emptying the nappy sack holder in your bin! It's totally gross, just as bad as the lazy fuckers who tie it to a tree or bush.... Why???!!!! Take it home and dispose of it yourself. How many tons of dogs shit are 'processed' each week in an average town... You'd be surprised of the cost of these services.

Els1e · 13/02/2024 17:22

I did once. Accidentally I hasten to add. I was walking my dog one wet, windy evening. My neighbours recycling bin had blown over and stuff was scattered across the pavement. So thought I would the nice and pick it all up. When I got home I realised I no longer had the poo bag (with poo). Felt a bit guilty but decided I wasn’t going back to rout through the bin looking for the offending item.

Zanatdy · 13/02/2024 17:39

No never, I use a dog poo bin or take it home

LaCouleurDeMonCiel · 13/02/2024 17:54

Bruisername · 13/02/2024 10:35

My council only takes the rubbish if in black bags so I would be left with a poo bag in the bottom of my bin

if it ends up in the recycling wheely then the council won’t take any of it and I’d have to fish it out

Same here. My guess is that they know that but choose to ignore it and tell themselves they are doing the right thing by not littering.

MrsMitford3 · 13/02/2024 17:59

Sorry @LanaL but not sure which vote means what?

It's absolutely grim-I have had poo bags in my bin which have either not been tied tightly or split-then I have to deal with someone else's dog shit. My bins are also collected fortnightly and in the summer the flies are awful if there is dog poo in them for 2 weeks.

It is rude and entitled and I do despair that some people have dogs if they can't manage this job.

Dispose in public bin, poo bin or take it home and put it in your own rubbish bin.

Tittyfilarious81 · 13/02/2024 18:09

I'd be livid if someone put dog shit in my bin it leaves a smell which I really don't want in my bin . There are bins for it or people can take it home and put it in their bin

redboots765 · 13/02/2024 18:21

This happens to my bin all the time. I live in a rural area with lots of dog walkers. I've even seen people doing it when I'm out gardening....🤯 I'm a dog lover, I always have water out for dogs.
I was a bit shocked to see the man using my bin, but thought, it's better than not cleaning it up...a few months later, I went to put rubbish in my bin and the smell was awful...at least 20 shit bags stuck to the bottom of the empty bin.

Again I was bit annoyed, but not enough to lock away the bin. Then we had a storm and I had to put the bins in the barn.

The dog walkers threw the shit bags into my recycling!!

I now have huge stones on the bin lids. The next person I catch god help them.

unsync · 13/02/2024 18:51

No. Never did this. Always ask for permission before putting anything into someone else's bin.

RedDuffle · 13/02/2024 15:40

😂

This is your response to 'Do you generally regard people who don't like excrement being put on their property as precious?'

Well, certainly it's well thought out... 🙄

CJ4713 · 13/02/2024 19:04

@redboots765 Add a sign to your bins along the lines of 'SMILE, you are on camera 😃'!
It stopped people throwing bags of shit in our skip when renovating.

BMW6 · 13/02/2024 19:12

Of course not, because I'm not an utter cunt.

Aroundthewaygirl · 13/02/2024 19:19

I wouldn't do it, and would get annoyed if someone else did this. However I'd rather have trash put in there instead of left on the street. (I hate litter bugs)

CatsLikeBoxes · 13/02/2024 19:19

My issue is when they chuck it in after the bin is emptied so it then sticks to the bottom of the bin. And even worse when they've put it in top of the recycling when that's waiting to be collected or after it's just been emptied - surely anyone living close enough to be doing this must know which bin is which.

Neriah · 13/02/2024 19:28

Doesn't matter what it is. It's illegal, and I have CCTV. And a dog! Your waste, your bin.

New2024 · 13/02/2024 19:35

My bin was out a bit longer after emptying last week and someone put their dog’s poo bag in there without tying the top. The stench was vile. I had to tip the bag out into the gutter, get disposable gloves and take it to the public bin. It’s completely unacceptable even if you’ve tied the bag, especially if the bin is empty because it’s obviously going to split once a heavy bin bag lands on it. I have no time for people who can’t correctly dispose of that kind of waste.

Leakyattic · 13/02/2024 19:39

I was ok with this until last year.

We went on holiday in the summer and left a completely empty black bin outside on the path. We had a heatwave on the UK.
The next time our inside bin was emptied the force of chucking in the bin bag burst multiple bags of festering dog shit that someone had dropped into the bottom.

The smell was unbelievable and I had no real way of cleaning the bin.

I suspect that it was the woman next door but 2. If I have proven it I would have sent her the bill for the professional cleaning that I had to pay for.

Now, I would face feed it to anyone that I caught putting their dog shit in my bin.

redboots765 · 13/02/2024 19:58

@CJ4713 I could do that (but it's obvious they are not, end of farm track) I could lock them, I could put them away from public access.

At the moment they are end of driveway, which really suits me..I don't have to put them in or out or remember bin days. Yes I'm lazy, it's the easy option. I may bungee the lid down and make it awkward. I'm guessing they will just throw it on land surrounding mine.

Nocturna · 13/02/2024 20:00

It’s cheeky and disgusting. I’ve had it where they’ve put dog shit in the cardboard recycling when it was out for collection, so it didn’t get taken. And also they’ve put it in the household waste, but when the bin lorry has tipped it up the dog shit got stuck so stayed in the bin, stinking it out another week.

To be fair, the same could be said of at least half the threads on MN!

I’ve never seen it - it’s a very busy site , not everyone sees every post

This thread comes up weekly!
I only ever put poo bags in communal bins or carry it home and put it in my own.
Why would it be ok to put your rubbish in someone elses bin- even if it was being collected that day? So random dog poo is ok, what about a tyre, bottles of chemicals or asbestos being shoved in there? Is that ok too???

We are renovating and our bin was half way up the drive. When I opened it, there were leaves mixed with poo at the top. I checked the cameras, and a woman walked up my drive, scraped her shoe with leaves and put them in my bin. Disgusting. The bin is permanently hidden now.

Ew that’s horrible !

I think it's just bad manners to do this especially with dog waste. A public bin is fine.
