Arrrrggghh I’ve f**led up - concert tickets

Lilysienna1 · 12/02/2024 16:51

Ok, so I KNOW I’ve been unreasonable… a lady was selling Taylor swift concert tickets on a local Facebook selling page. I said I would like to buy 2 for me and my teen DD. Before I transferred £400, I wanted to make sure this person was legit - I have been scammed a few years ago and am very weary to transfer money online. Her Facebook profile was quite open and I could see her entire friends list. We had no friends in common, but a few of her friends are friends with mine. All of her friends are from where we live, lots of comments and photos etc. definitely looked legit.

My 2 fuck ups-

  1. I TOLD her in a message that I checked she was ‘real’ as I’ve been scammed before. I told her I checked her profile and she has friends in common with a few of mine… I had taken my time to do this and reply so was being honest with her. But why oh why did I do that?! As now she’s blocked me. I can see why, I’ve got her back up haven’t I. Made it look like I’ve been spying on her (which I had really… my next fuck up is, I TOLD teen DD I managed to get us tickets… she’s now over the moon with excitement and making concert bracelets in her room listening to Taylor swift albums.

I can’t apologise to the lady, or make her unblock me. I’ve been difficult and weird with her, and she probably thinks it’s less hassle to sell to someone else instead. I feel so pissed off with myself. How do I tell my DD I’ve fucked up?! Or WHERE can I find legit tickets for Wembley asap.

so I know I’m BU but would you do the same as the seller in her shoes ? Is it worth me trying to apologise somehow?

At least you didn’t lose the 400! Legit tickets are coming up all the time - DD sold 3 Edinburgh tickets back to Ticketmaster a few weeks back because she’d tried to get tickets anywhere in Europe and ended up being successful in a few venues, so she did the decent thing and put them back in the pile for someone else. There’s going to be a lot of that happening in the next few months. In the meantime be honest to your DD that the woman was a scammer, but you didn’t lose any money so you’re still trying through the legitimate channels. Best of luck!

How did she manage to be successful? Just checking ticket master all the time? I check several times a day but so far have had no luck at all and I chech all UK and Ireland dates. Unfortunately my daughter decided she was Taylor Swift obsessed after the registration codes was done.

Please don't use ViaGoGo either...

We have these ocassionally at work and they are all scams, resold for extortionate prices to more than one person so people leave disappointed

Haribosweets · 12/02/2024 17:46

There was a post like this the other week on here and was scammed via FB. Same friend of friend who got hacked. I think money was transferred though and then they asked for more money. Literally only a week or so ago. It was also on rip off Britain if you have iplayer and others who have been scammed and a story with a person whose FB was hacked x

DumpedByText · 12/02/2024 17:51

It's a scam and you've been very lucky! That's why she's blocked you, don't buy tickets on Facebook unless you know them personally.

pizzaHeart · 12/02/2024 17:52

Glad that you got to the bottom of it. No one legit will be upset by a simple check of FB page.
I would tell DD about it in details, it would be useful for her to know about potential scams.

Anjea · 12/02/2024 17:56

You're so lucky. These accounts are hacked and all use exactly the same wording and all selling 4 tickets.

Don't buy them off Facebook.

rainydaysandwednesdays · 12/02/2024 18:00

They take over profiles through hacking then advertise tickets for sale. You think you're buying from Jane down the street but it's so far from that.

You had a lucky escape! I'd never buy off social media if they wanted the cash through bank transfer!

I didn't even think you could sell tickets now...but that could be wrong.

KnickerlessParsons · 12/02/2024 18:08

Sunshineandrainbow · 12/02/2024 16:56

Could you ask someone else to approach her for the tickets

Noooo!!

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 12/02/2024 18:17

Why on earth would you send £400 to some random via Facebook for anything, let alone concert tickets?

The mind boggles.

SgtJuneAckland · 12/02/2024 18:21

This happened to my gran a scammer hacked her FB profile copied all of her photos etc and created a duplicate, it doesn't matter how many times we report it to FB as fake they don't agree, the scam profile is now selling all sorts of things my gran has had to stop using her profile and just replace her profile with a message saying I'm not selling anything there is a fake profile pretending to be me, while we as family members repeatedly report to FB and keep trying to escalate. It's been going on weeks now

NamelessGhoul · 12/02/2024 18:26

Unsure if Scarlet Mist is still going, but they were always the safe bet for tickets.

Edit. It is!

You'll need to register and check the site regularly.

Topofthemountain · 12/02/2024 18:32

You had a lucky escape OP. There is one doing the rounds locally to me. I presume it is the same person / gang behind them all.

Update- a friend of mine has just contacted the person selling - by phoning her. And she knew NOTHING about it. Her account has been CLONED. So it really was a scammer!! I feel better about that part now. At least I know I didn’t offend / upset anyone. I got blocked as I was onto them…. So my real mistake was telling DD. 😰

That's happened to someone my friend knows. Her sister saw her post selling tickets thought ooo that's handy so messaged the actual person whose fb it was. Except she had no clue!! Fb had been hacked and selling posts put up and just so happened to be friends with this person who saw it

It's only when she looked into it after and saw they're not being transferred yet etc and sold not obviously on fb but they got lucky. So many haven't and glad you have

Moodicum · 12/02/2024 18:47

Scammer

Londonrach1 · 12/02/2024 18:50

She booked you as she is a scammer...well done op on doing the research

MadCatLady27 · 12/02/2024 19:09

I'd be inclined to say she was scamming, because if she was genuine she would have understood why you'd checked her so thoroughly

I was selling all my horse stuff when giving up and someone asked for various pieces of proof re some rugs she was interested I happily sent her photos

There's so many scams around concert tickets that she should have understood why you were taking precautions

I'm not sure how you can solve the DD problem maybe people on here know of good genuine resale sites you can keep an eye open on?

MooFroo · 12/02/2024 19:17

Good that’s so scary! Didn’t know that was a new scam - so hard to keep up as they get more and more
clever.

well saved @Lilysienna1 !

Gizlotsmum · 12/02/2024 19:19

You’ve just stopped yourself being scammed!

Ladyj84 · 12/02/2024 19:20

Pay the appropriate people and stop using Facebook pages for tickets it's so simple. Expect to be ripped off and scammed unless you go to the correct ticket purchasing site

Hoplolly · 12/02/2024 19:22

She's a scammer using a hacked account. They hack the accounts, sit and wait for the opportune moment and post in the groups that the person was a member of so it looks legit.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/02/2024 19:24

When will people ever learn to not send random strangers insane amounts of money? Of course it was a scam.

Topofthemountain · 12/02/2024 19:42

Hacking accounts is perhaps a new angle, but "send me lots of money" is as old as time and happened years before the internet. Phishing is getting more sophisticated, trying to get people to part with hard money, not so much - people just fall for it.

Pollyannamex · 12/02/2024 19:56

Sunshineandrainbow · 12/02/2024 17:00

Ignore me seems like a scammer after all.

It's sickening
I remember transferring money for Drake tickets years ago for DD. The tickets were sent on email. When my excited dd got to the 02 she was told the tickets had already been used to gain access that night.
Seller had obviously just forewarded the tickets multiple times.
For years I couldnt let the awful feeling go of how disappointed she was.

I work in ticketing for live events and this honestly happens all the time. It’s awful.

I mean, I don't think they've been particularly clever.

Why would anyone in their right mind send £400 to a stranger via Facebook?

Nonamenoplacetogo · 12/02/2024 20:03

It's a scam, my friend was almost fooled by a friend of a friend posting tickets for sale, her page had been hacked
