Looking at the notes in my phone, last June was the last proper/heavier period, July light bleed, October light bleed, January-one day bleed etc Is this just normal signs of Peri? The other months are no bleeding

Also 46. Periods are still regular, at around 28 days. No obvious peri menopause symptoms yet.

mehyeahok · 12/02/2024 00:34

Yes women have a finite number and if you have a daughter you have technically carried around half of your grandchild as she will be born with her eggs Smile
No idea if getting periods earlier correlates with early meno tho.

dutysuite · 12/02/2024 00:35

Long and very heavy. I dread my periods. I’ve been backwards and forwards at the doctors about it for years and it’s never taken seriously. I’m 45 and had a blood test which indicated I wasn’t peri menopausal.

Josette77 · 12/02/2024 00:39

46 here and my periods are every 23-33 days.

I have Endo though and in the last year my boobs stopped getting excessively sore despite having too many cysts in my breasts to count and excess estrogen.

I think I'm in peri-menopause. I had one 44 day cycle that thrilled me last year.

I had Covid though at Christmas and that seems to have caused an Endo flare though. My symptoms have been bad since. Even mid-month spotting.

I’m 46, is this too young?
Dont really have other signs aside from some moodiness/anger but pretty much always had this on and off!

I’m the same age as you and I have my period every month but it’s only last 2 or 3 days and it’s finished. Before I turned 43 I used to have my period every month and it was lasting 7days

Asiatoyork · 12/02/2024 07:26

Until today very regular. So regular that I am now somewhere remote on a beach/pool
holiday with an unexpected period, and apparently finding tampons is the holy grail here!

You need to go back with the NICE guidelines. Peri isn't diagnosed by blood test, it's diagnosed by symptoms.

Peri can last for up to 10 years, and the average age of menopause (12 months from last period) is 51. You're well within the range and 45 is the age I think NICE refers to as well.

Blake10 · 12/02/2024 07:39

I'm mid 40s and they are all over the place. Lighter but can be more painful. Over the last year I've had 2 week, 5 week, 8 week plus cycles.
I'm not great at recording details but I don't think I've had a period for a few months at the moment.

Blake10 · 12/02/2024 07:43

I also use to get ovulation pains which I don't seem to get now

Cocacolacarrie · 12/02/2024 07:44

I'm 43 and mine are all over the shop. The last 12 months they've been more erratic. Longer cycles with a light bleed, then shorter cycles with a heavy bleed.

Never gone longer than 6-8 weeks in between. I'm going to ask the obvious, you're not pregnant are you?

doppelgangermirror · 12/02/2024 07:59

46 and my cycle is slightly shorter (28 days when it used to be around 32) but pretty regular.

They are lighter though and only last 2-3 days with most of bleeding happening on day 2.

justtidying · 12/02/2024 08:02

Mine were up to 9 days of a 21 day cycle, with lots of spotting.

I had a hysterectomy last summer and it was the best decision I ever made.

Am 43.

positivesliceofpie · 12/02/2024 09:40

I used to have really heavy periods for 6-7 days flooding for about 4 days from age 12 till i was 32 then it calmed down.
Now 37 i get a 3day period two day medium flow one day spotting.
Never on the same day i never know when im due on its a different week every month.
Some months very light.
Fingers crossed it will all stop soon.

Maverickess · 12/02/2024 09:46

NoWordForFluffy · 11/02/2024 22:23

You're not too young, @Maverickess. Peri can last 10 years, and the average age of menopause (periods actually stopping) is 51. So you're well within that potential timeframe.

I think once you're 45, they're more inclined to diagnose from symptoms. Blood tests are unreliable anyway. I'd gen up on the NICE guidelines and go back in your shoes.

I'm going back to the Dr soon, find a lot of stuff is written off as mental health issues once you've had issues, especially as this does have a mental health/emotional/brain from element to it.
I'm willing to try anything really, but I just want to be taken seriously.

Nicebloomers · 12/02/2024 09:55

Mid 40’s and have a copper coil. I’m more regular than I was in my 20’s at 28/29 days. Awfully heavy on days 2-4 then much lighter for 2 days. I have a day of (mostly) irrational anger a couple of days before and then I do get some nasty period pains. I don’t suspect peri-menopause as yet.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 12/02/2024 09:59

I’m 42. For the last couple of years cycles have become really irregular, anything from 24-34 days apart. The first two days are ridiculously heavy then it’s fine for the last three or four.

Usernamesarenoteasy · 12/02/2024 10:18

Horrific. I'm 45 and now have a much shorter cycle than ever before, 24-26 days. ANd oh my god the flooding. For at least 2 days I'm having to change a supermax tampax every 2 hours. It never used to be like this!

Lobster12345 · 12/02/2024 11:48

47- every 23 days or so. V light bleeding for 2-3 days, as in just a wipe needed when I go to the loo. This year, I have started missing a couple here and there. They just seem to be slowly fading away and petering out.

TheKeatingFive · 12/02/2024 11:51

I'm 43. They're heavier than in my late 30s, last about 5 days, very regular.

I have other peri symptoms though

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 12/02/2024 12:03

I'm 44. I've been in peri for nearly a year.

I've stayed on the contraceptive injection as my nurse said my periods can get heavier.

I never used to get them while on it but I get one every couple of months now.

I tried HRT but it affected my moods so I came off it.

My school friend started peri at 40. She's still going through it.

I hope mine doesn't last as long as hers has.
