Looking at the notes in my phone, last June was the last proper/heavier period, July light bleed, October light bleed, January-one day bleed etc Is this just normal signs of Peri? The other months are no bleeding

44 and can't remember my last one. Definitely before Christmas, maybe November?

As long as I have a couple of tampons in my bag in case there's a sudden one I don't take much notice of it. I don't really know if I was ever particularly regular or not.

Annoyingremixes · 11/02/2024 22:38

@mehyeahok So sorry 😔

Does low iron cause periods to stop?

OP posts:
mehyeahok · 11/02/2024 22:40

@Annoyingremixes yes! And become very tired, irrational (my emotions were crazy which is why they gave me anti-d's, although they should have done routine bloods I think after my hospitalisation for the miscarriage). People get different symptoms but I did go for 6 months without one.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 11/02/2024 22:40

Sounds very normal for your age. I’m 42 and these have been mine over the last year!

Annoyingremixes · 11/02/2024 22:35

@motherofkevinnotperry Do you have less with longer months with none?
Getting a bit worried as most on here don’t seem to have that?

Yep I get every variation going. Heavy to just spotting. Pains with nothing for months then periods for weeks or every few weeks or months.

I have no idea when, how long or what type. I've had a coil for 2 years due to very heavy periods and that's settled the heaviest of periods but honestly it's an absolute shit show 😁.

I'm not concerned about it. Smears are clear and family history is similar to what's happening to me

mehyeahok · 11/02/2024 22:41

I only found out I was anemic when I went to give blood and they refused me - they were amazed I was walking. I take spatone with vit c in the little pouches you get on Amazon now because I think GP's/NHS threashold for levels is very low and most women do need more.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/02/2024 22:44

Yours sound like mine, @motherofkevinnotperry.

motherofkevinnotperry · 11/02/2024 22:44

Oh yes very very tired, hormonal mood changes, migraines, sore boobs, can't lose weight, losing waist etc etc none of which indicates a period and fluctuates constantly.

I used to be regular to the day, almost the hour and I could tell it was due by how I emotionally felt. I don't get the level of PMT I used to but that's about it.

Annoyingremixes · 11/02/2024 22:47

The thing is, I don’t seem to ever get sore boobs and the build up to it as I used to. I also get zero signs of ovulation, so I’m guessing it’s all just finishing 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm 46 and was on the pill from 18-40 so not got much to compare to. But definitely shorter cycles, say 3.5 weeks. Not much for first couple of days then it's like niagara falls for a couple of days then tails off. Also mid month ovulation pain, lots of symptoms just before my period including headaches, feeling tired, stomach pain and very emotional. Sick of them and just want them to piss off now.

Yup all normal. I used to get ovulation pains etc. Now who bloody knows what's coming next. Like I said absolute shit show which I'm just going along with and trying not to overthink.

If you're concerned see your GP but expect the unexpected and know it's all possible during peri.

I'm not on hrt despite feeling like I was losing the plot a few years ago. I think I've learnt to adapt to the changes and hopefully I'll ride it out now.

kellon · 11/02/2024 23:37

I'm 44. My cycles are 23-30 days long, and periods last 4 days and are fairly light. They are lighter than they used to be but I've had lots of other gynae changes so I wouldn't assume it's peri in my case. I've never been very regular and cycle length is about the same. No other spotting or flooding. PMT seems to have improved but tbh I think that's more about having better general wellbeing and support.

Annoyingremixes · 11/02/2024 22:13

I’m 46, is this too young?
Dont really have other signs aside from some moodiness/anger but pretty much always had this on and off!

When I was mid 40s my periods firstly went lighter and shorter and then became more spaced out as well. I had previously had a regular 28 day cycle and fairly heavy for the first couple of days.

I think 46 is sooner than average (it was the same for me) but then some people are going to be earlier than average. I am 53 now and my last period was at around age 48.

Mnetcurious · 11/02/2024 23:47

Mid 40’s, regular cycle every 26 days lasting 4-5 days, (down from 28 cycle lasting 5-6 days in my 20s and 30s) not worried yet. See your GP if you’re concerned.

Hankunamatata · 11/02/2024 23:51

Mine were like that from 38. My mum had no periods from 41 so assuming it's genetic.

bedsidetablewithtoast · 11/02/2024 23:52

49 and very regular at roughly every 29 days.

jay55 · 12/02/2024 00:00

47 and cycle anything from 20 to 60 days, really frustrating having been pretty regular the previous 37 years.

PinkArt · 12/02/2024 00:02

I'm 44 and had two very light periods last year, having had heavy and regular periods for decades. You're 46 so within the 'normal' range to go through menopause ( starts at 45) so it's completely normal that you'd be having peri symptoms like this.
Just beware the flooding. The light periods can kill you into a false sense of security and the woosh (literally) it's like something out of Carrie.

oknowimscared · 12/02/2024 00:08

Late 40’s. Keep thinking I’m finally through it all (I’ll have 9-10 months of nothing) then I’ll have a big bleed out of nowhere (which leaves me feeling exhausted (periods never did that)). I used to be like clockwork, but now, not at all. Currently 9 months since last bleed and while it doesn’t occupy my every thought, it does hang around in the back of my mind. Is it finally done, or am I going to have another, with no warning.

MunchMunch · 12/02/2024 00:08

My periods started changing about 2 years ago at 44. Going from every 28 days like clock work to on a week off a week and then back on for another week, then go missing for a month or two, heavy flow or sometimes light. I went to GP who sent me on the 2 week pathway (thankfully no cancer) so just seems like it's probably the start of perimenopause. The dr I saw on the 2 week pathway said I could have the coil or the pill. I had a failed attempt at the coil so went with the pill and it's been bliss not having periods for 2 years!

AllTheChaos · 12/02/2024 00:09

I’m 46. Cycles starting getting shorter soon after I hit 40. Now roughly 15-16 days. Light for a couple of days, one really awful heavy day, then get lighter again. Usually bleeding for about a week in total. Am anaemic. All totally usual in my family, mum, aunt, grandma were all the same at the same sort of age. Doctor arranged scans in case, but they were all clear. Expecting to finish with periods at 48-49 based on the other women in my family.

scraggadoo · 12/02/2024 00:16

I'm 47 and nothing since late October. I've thought about seeing GP too. Prior to then erratic heavy/ close together periods. I figure it will show up again at some point when I'm least expecting it? Be weird to think this is it!

bombastix · 12/02/2024 00:25

They were very erratic after the COVID jab and I felt awful. Flooding or nothing. Terrible mood. Improved and became regular again on HRT. Relieved. I'm in my late 40s

Labraradabrador · 12/02/2024 00:29

Mine have gotten really heavy for last couple of years (43 now) - 2 days of very very heavy flow (tampon only lasts an hour or two), followed by 1-2 days of more moderate, or what would previously have been normal flow. The last couple of cycles have been shorter than usual (used to be very regular/ standard), but still heavier than usual - hoping that isn’t going to be a trend! I would also say that I have had more premenstrual symptoms since turning 40ish.

have started taking iron supplements as was feeling totally wiped, and it does seem to help - never had levels properly checked though.

i am really ready to be done with periods- definitely hadn’t been prepared for them to get worse.

fromBodentoBandM · 12/02/2024 00:30

Can I ask a question)
Does the age that periods start to run out deoend on how young you were when you started? don't we have a finite number of eggs?
