Is closer to red flags than it is to child safeguarding?

I didn't like that line either, bit jarring, would have been better with first period. Tena ads don't reference 'pissing yourself' do they, there's a way to phrase everything.

Also they used the horrible clown imagery twice which slowed down an otherwise fast paced advert, looked like they were trying to get their money's worth out of that shot.

Just waiting for the day Andrex goes for shock value.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 11/02/2024 19:52

I must say I don’t like the ad for the toilet roll where people are running for the loo and the camera just focuses on their bum.

PaperDoIIs · 11/02/2024 19:57

My daughter's first real heart break was when all her (female) friends turned against her and dumped her.

It is significant tho isn’t it? First period. Obviously we didn’t hold a ceremony but it’s certainly a milestone.

Bloody milestone is it?! I can think of better ones growing up. I have been in agony with mine since I first got it aged 16🙄

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 11/02/2024 20:04

Such as?
My dd really suffers with hers. It’s a big part of her life due to its impact. Deciding what to wear on heavy days, painful cramps.

im currently going through menopause and I guess that’s also significant and a milestone. And I don’t like it.

Agree with pp though that ‘first peeiod’ would’ve been better and less ambiguous. And better if it was a female poet. On the whole I liked the as probably as it resonated with the stage im at. Especially the texting part.

So in fact, it was a milestone albeit an unwelcome one. It made a big difference to your life and you needed support.

Because nobody's first boyfriend is a good choice?

Yep. My mum was well relieved when my first relationship ended. Not that she let on at the time.Smile

Yes this really. A poem about mothering a daughter, not parenting.
And it does appear to be written by a man
Perhaps there will be a follow on add about being a father to sons. Written by a woman?

I agree, what about parenting sons? Why all the focus on daughters??

The biggest most unwelcome one there ever was😂

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 11/02/2024 20:10

I think periods should be more openly spoken about. My dd mentioned hers to a friend (male) who didn’t know it happened every month!

Growing up it was seen as embarrassing / shameful to mention. A secret. I remember ads used to show blue liquid to show a period. I could never say to my dad I had cramps. Mr dds both will and ask for products. A much better place to be.

AgainNC · 11/02/2024 20:14

I don’t think girls would welcome their parents talking about this ‘milestone’ to anyone as ‘first blood in their knickers’ ... so who the fuck would word it like that in a poem? It’s weird.

You’d be complaining if it was about boys. They can’t win, can they?

I agree with this and yet still think 'first blood in your knickers' is inappropriate.

Yes I would, if they said 'first seman stain in your pants' but they won't, will they.

You’d be saying “But what about girls?” and calling them misogynist.

Gruhgahkle · 11/02/2024 20:24

maddening · 11/02/2024 09:15

And surely you would think the nspcc would also consider that this is why girls need single sex spaces but no, they don't support that at all, they actually support unisex and have said so explicitly

Contained cubicles with a sink in are by far the best way of dealing with a period. Whether they are unisex or not is irrelevant because they ARE SINGLE PERSON.

No, I'd be saying it was completely inappropriate to say 'first semen in pants' questioning the drawing and wondering who the fuck thought that this was appropriate to advertise charity who pretends to cares about child safeguarding.

Exactly; perhaps the poet doesn't fully understand how difficult and painful that milestone can be for some girls. I would have hated being discussed by my parents in such a way and not because I'm embarrassed but because its a private thing.

AgainNC · 11/02/2024 20:28

Don’t be so ridiculous, no, we’d wouldn’t. We would be saying it was wrong.

But with ‘blood in knickers’, theres the added issue of that being linked to sexual abuse and the NSPCC should know that better than anyone.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/02/2024 20:31

It's an odd thing, this poem.

Clown face? Blood in the knickers? The imagery used doesn' show love for girls or women.

jhpf · 11/02/2024 20:32

Awful advert OP I agree

The line first blood in your knickers is behind is it to late to talk about the old sex thing.

Nope. Not appropriate at all for this charity.

First blood in pants, period. From a protection of children campaign?

If it was from always ultra fair enough.

I agree with you OP.

Well I guess that's what happens when a man writes the lines for a mother to speak.

There was a phone found recording very recently, in a unisex cubical, at a local sports centre here. I bet it wasn’t left in there by the last female user. Let’s keep toilets and other safe spaces, sex based.
