At a monkey temple in Asia .
prior to leaving had agreed with DH not to get too near moneys due to Heb B/ rabies risk.

not to near means approx within a meter.

DH gets carried away with the hype ,
watches another person poke a monkey and then states the monkey was fine and tells our child to go up to it.

I dont Want them to.

Dh starts getting arsey as he ‘ has my own opinion ‘ ‘ it’s fine, I’ve made my own judgement’

discussion about monkeys being unpredictable and wild and possibly pissed off after being poked.

has no impact

child near monkey.

different monkey later jumps on child and tries to scratch at them and takes there water.

DH laughs.

I am concerned about possible broken skin.

DH says it’s ‘ too much, other families would just laugh’ ‘ why are you so angry’

YANBU, that’s stupid and risky. But why the hell are you somewhere where people can poke monkeys. That’s absurdly cruel.

F1ymetothetoon · 10/02/2024 15:51

Dunno about poking monkeys but I DO know you should never poke a bear apparently.

bestmoment · 10/02/2024 15:51

this was your child?

anything from stopping you removing your child from this situation?

MandyMotherOfBrian · 10/02/2024 15:52

Poke a monkey? FFS deserve all you get.

your child?

why the hell couldn’t you remove the child from the monkeys?

and let dh do what the hell he wants

I know that’s why I’m trying to understand my part in it . To resolve

what dh does is his own business

what he does with your child is also YOUR business

so leave dh to the monkeys
remove child

no brainer

Mumof2teens79 · 10/02/2024 16:17

I think YANBU to say you don't want your small child near a wild animal.....but once that happened you are overreacting to a "possible" scratch. If you can't see broken skin I wouldn't worry.

Noideawwhatsoccuring · 10/02/2024 16:20

Did he get the child to poke the monkey. Or just stand less than a meter away?

was there broken skin?

healthywino · 10/02/2024 16:22

Was this a properly organised place, like a petting zoo, or some random guy with a monkey on the street? I'd say if it's the former you'll be fine.

Thoughtswelcomehere · 10/02/2024 16:23

Our child didn’t poke the monkey .
someone else did , but it may have stressed it out in my opinion Seconds before DH took its non reaction as conformation that it would be fine with our child next to it .
thankfully no, skin not broken x

TheSnowyOwl · 10/02/2024 16:23

The fact you condoning somewhere so cruel by going there and not even registering what poking wild animals signifies is what I’d be concerned about.

Noideawwhatsoccuring · 10/02/2024 16:25

So essentially you got mad because your dh encouraged your child to get closer that 1 meter from the monkey.

The monkey jumped on the child, left no injury. This caused a huge argument?

Do you know monkeys can jump further than a meter?

Thoughtswelcomehere · 10/02/2024 16:29

I got mad because Dh didn’t stick to what was agreed prior and in my eyes put our child next to an all ready stressed animal

OP posts:
Noideawwhatsoccuring · 10/02/2024 16:31

You both chose to put your children near stressed monkeys because you went there.

Fionaville · 10/02/2024 16:31

What was your over reaction? I'm confused. It doesn't sound like you reacted at all, apart from having concerns.
I think people let their guards down a bit too much on holiday. In that they ignore their inner voice telling them something is dangerous, because 'Everyone else is doing it and it must be ok because its a tourist activity'
It's only a pity that you and your DH weren't on the same page about what is an acceptable risk versus the reward.
I wouldn't go on about it. It's done now. The kids are fine and probably loved the monkey experience, so don't put a downer on it, after the fact.

F1ymetothetoon · 10/02/2024 16:36

Not my circus not my monkeys.

GreyhpundGirl · 10/02/2024 16:45

I'm not sure why you think a metre is a safe distance, and why you'd stay there after seeing some morons commit animal cruelty which is only likely to have a negative outcome. There's no way my child would be in that situation. If your husband wants to act like a twat then leave him to it.

Prawncow · 10/02/2024 16:58

Is this somewhere the monkeys are free to come and go? Where they’re wild animals?

baffling just baffling that you didn’t remove said child from this scenario that you were correctly disturbed about

instead you seem to have quietly seethed and watched him
