Scared that I could have a brain tumour..

mylittlepony1988 · 07/02/2024 16:21

Thursday and Friday off last week I felt really sick. I wasn't, I just felt it. I thought that's a bit strange but didn't think too much into it.

Saturday I started with a headache, which I never get. I had headache and felt out of sorts Saturday and Sunday and had a bit of an upset stomach.

Monday I felt really sick, very dizzy, had numbness on the left side of my body and the headache was awful. I went to the docs and they did a neurological exam which they said apart from some weakness in my left leg was normal. Gave me painkillers and said it might be the start of something but they're not sure what and to come back if it gets worse.

I've still got this headache, nausea, dizziness and weakness. I've now absolutely terrified myself it's a brain tumour. The headache is worse when I bend down or move my eyes at all.

Has anyone else had anything like this and it's been a virus, or stress?

Why two threads on this? Call 111 if it gets worse. Rest and take pain killers like the GP suggested. Virus, covid or sinus seems most likely. Stop worrying about a brain tumor, that's just anxiety talking. Go and watch something mindless on telly and have a doze.

laddersandsnakes12 · 07/02/2024 16:29

It could be a number of things. I'm not saying that it definitely isn't a tumour, and I'm not a dr, but it's probably the least likely reason for the way you're feeling. It could be stress, sleeping at a funny angle and hurting your neck - this happened to me, had terrible headaches and stiff neck for a few weeks, changed to a memory foam pillow and all better. It could be a migraine, or a symptom of some underlying infection/covid/flu... It's hard to know, and I understand why you're feeling worried, I was the same with my headaches. You've seen the doctor, and if it continues then you'll definitely have to see them again because whatever it is sounds painful and unpleasant, even if it isn't the worse case scenario.

Pigeonqueen · 07/02/2024 16:32

Not sure why you’d leap to assuming it’s a brain tumour when the most obvious cause is a migraine.

If it comes back or you’re really worried contact your GP again and ask for an MRI.

KnowledgeableMomma · 07/02/2024 16:33

The headache getting worse while bending over is usually indicative of sinus/mucus pressure. I'd add an antihistamine to see if that helps.

WhichIsItWendy · 07/02/2024 16:35

This is a forum, not a GP surgery. If you are still anxious and in pain, go back to the doctors.

Enigma52 · 07/02/2024 16:38

Ring 111 or go to a&e. Otherwise you will worry your self senseless OP.

Feel better soon.

Sususudio · 07/02/2024 16:40

DD gets migraines like these. That's the most obvious cause. Migraines can also make you dizzy. Don't leap to a tumour.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 07/02/2024 16:40

You can't put a price on reassurance, which, because of the leg weakness, I'd want in the form of an MRI (which will almost 100% confirm that you are fit and well and probably dealing with a virus of some sort). Brain tumours are extremely rare. But I'm a huge fan of definitive answers and if you can get one, take it.

KreedKafer · 07/02/2024 16:55

You've already posted about this and people gave you very helpful and sensible advice. Stop fuelling your anxiety by repeatedly asking about it.

Enigma52 · 07/02/2024 16:58

You have two threads on this.
Come on, get a grip. Take action if worried.

mylittlepony1988 · 08/02/2024 18:39

Thanks everyone. It's still really bad. I felt slightly better last night then woke up this morning and the headache and dizziness was back. So I've still got the numbness on my left side, the constant headache and dizziness and nausea. I don't know what to do.. ride it out, a&e, back to the GP or what. I'm worrying myself so much

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/02/2024 18:50

Hemopleigic migraine? The whole side can go numb.

mylittlepony1988 · 08/02/2024 18:54

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow can they last days?

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/02/2024 18:56

The GP said go back to them of it doesn't go, so see them Monday of it's still bad. Are you taking regular pain killers? Yes, migraines can last days.

SecondUsername4me · 08/02/2024 18:57

Book an appointment with your optician. They can see a fair bit going on just from an eye exam.

Malarandras · 08/02/2024 18:58

I am no doctor, but I am someone who has had terrible migraines and all of this can be caused by migraines. As others have told you though you need to actually speak to a doctor about this.

BobbyBiscuits · 08/02/2024 19:02

Of course that's a worse case scenario, but it's not helpful to think like that. I would think the symptoms would be going on for longer in something like that. If the painkillers etc don't work in a week or so, and it's getting worse, you are really scared, then go to A&E. Try not to panic as that can make any kind of head/ above neck pain worse.

mylittlepony1988 · 08/02/2024 19:02

I've booked an eye test for Sunday. I might book a gp app for Monday. I have been really stressed so I can understand why a migraine might have been triggered but I've never had dizziness with them or had one last for so long

OP posts:
mylittlepony1988 · 08/02/2024 19:03

The doctor did a neurology exam, checked my muscle strength, eye movements etc. more or less said they weren't sure what it could be and it will either get worse or go away 🤷🏻‍♀️

DoesNotPlayWellWithIdiots · 08/02/2024 19:03

This is your third thread in three days about this and, having just read your first one, I think you've given yourself the answer already.

You're having a stressful time at the moment, you have a very ill relative, you're not sleeping properly, the only things you drink are coffee and cola, you only take your antidepressants a couple of times a week...

It's no surprise you're feeling shitty but I very much doubt it's a brain tumour! Anxiety, sleep deprivation, caffeine overload and antidepressant withdrawal are the likely culprits.

See your GP again and tell them everything you wrote in your first post. In the meantime at least take your meds every day and drastically cut down on the caffeine.

Kimmeridge · 08/02/2024 19:06

Is it really necessary to start a thread every day. You're getting the same advice and you're updating them all do they're all active.

Why can't you just run one thread 🙄

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 08/02/2024 19:11

Op, I hear your anxiety. Try to take some deep slow breaths.

I suffer with health anxiety and something like this would cause me to have panic attacks.

Let's keep things in perspective. STOP googling symptoms. Sit on your hands if you have to.

It's far more likely to be something much more mundane than a brain tumor.

Brain tumors are rare. The chance of developing a brain tumour in your lifetime is less than 1%. 0.023880597% to be exact.

16000 people a year are diagnosed with a brain tumor in the UK. There are 67 million of us living here.

I hope that helps a bit, it would help me.

mylittlepony1988 · 08/02/2024 19:15

@MyLadyTheKingsMother thank you, I don't think it helps as my cousin died of a brain tumour in her 20s.. no ongoing symptoms other than occasional headaches, tumour was undiagnosed and she just had a seizure out of the blue one day and died. And now my uncle has one too (different side of the family) I keep trying to tell myself lightening surely wouldn't strike so many times but then the symptoms keep scaring me and the voice in my head keeps saying it's not normal to have these symptoms for so many days in a row

Sususudio · 08/02/2024 19:15

OP, this sounds like vestibular migraine. These can cause dizziness for weeks. DD has them. Can be triggered by stress, diet, caffeine or too much computer time. Not dangerous. Have a look below.

Hi, it sounds a bit like migraines. I get them. They are not “just a headache”. My speech is severely impaired by them. But MRI results show me as absolutely fine
