Do you mind if passengers in your relatively nice car put their feet (with shoes on) on the seat / dash / other parts off the floor?

Just got a new Volvo xc90. When my friends go out, on long journeys some of them put their feet on the seat / centre console. Is it a big deal?

Slobs

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 06/02/2024 14:09

Yes! With shoes or without it’s rude and unnecessary

Say please put your feet down!!

ThirdStorm · 06/02/2024 14:10

Big deal and I would be telling them to stop.

MonsteraMama · 06/02/2024 14:11

Friend of mine used to do this, put her feet up on the dash to "relax". I showed her a picture of the aftermath of someone's hips and legs when they got into a crash while she had her legs up on the dash. She's never done it since.

It's very rude to do it in someone else's car.

Lollygaggle · 06/02/2024 14:11

Yes because I would be worried that in an accident they would be caused massive trauma by airbag etc with permanent, disabling injuries .

ZekeZeke · 06/02/2024 14:12

Feet firmly on the floor, on the car mats-surely that's a given.
No eating or drinking in my car.

Hardwig · 06/02/2024 14:12

It's rude and unsafe.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 06/02/2024 14:13

It wouldn't bother me at all. I just got a new car and love it but don't expect it to stay clean. That said I'm not very car proud usually. 1st week in brand new car DS got in from soccer practice covered in wet mud. Someone ate crackers in the back seat. My standards are low!! But do tell friends if it annoys you I'm sure they will understand

Potentialmadcatlady · 06/02/2024 14:13

Ask them if they want to lose a hip/leg?
Also ask them if they would put their feet up on furniture in your house?

Moonshine5 · 06/02/2024 14:14

Really dangerous

MarmitePizza · 06/02/2024 14:15

a) I’d been absolutely fucking livid - just reading it has made me annoyed!

b) as others have said, it’s incredibly dangerous in the event of a crash (so I’d be able to use this as my excuse rather than telling them a)!)

Came to suggest you do this. It causes horrific, life changing injuries. Regardless of their manners (they're being very rude) I'd refuse to drive if someone was doing that.

Grumpynan · 06/02/2024 14:17

i personally hate feet up on furniture particularly if wearing shoes, though I don’t want bare / smell socks on my furniture either, especially the coffee table that’s just gross, I have foot stalls for that. That said we do put our feet up in the evenings to watch tv, but normally had a shower and in snuggly clothes then so at least the feet are clean or wearing slippers.

its just come back to me posting this 😱, years ago, we had just had our new kitchen fitted, was so proud of it, took ages to save up for. MIL came to see it, she took her shoes of at the door and put slippers on as she always did, walked into the kitchen, instead of putting her dirty (and they were dirty wet shoes ) in the utility room as normal she put them on my new work top ! Needless to say I wasn’t impressed.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 06/02/2024 14:18

Firm no from me, I also don't let anyone touch the consul, radio, clock, heating etc, they can ask first but don't be fiddling.
The passenger area is the bit they're sitting in, feet on the floor.
Want the window open, ask first

Februaryfeels · 06/02/2024 14:19

Who would think it was acceptable to do that

That was my friend in the 90s. So dangerous (the dashboard).

steff13 · 06/02/2024 14:27

I don't like it and it's also very dangerous to put your feet on the dashboard in the event of an accident.

sockarefootwear · 06/02/2024 14:39

My car is old and I am not particularly 'car proud' but I would object very strongly to this. Feet on the seats means risk of dirty clothes etc for the next person who sits there. Feet on the dashboard is dangerous and distracting. Feet on the centre console is distracting and possibly also dangerous. These people need to accept your car rules or drive themselves

PickAChew · 06/02/2024 14:41

They can sit properly or they can walk.

megletthesecond · 06/02/2024 14:41

Gross and dangerous.

(I'm not car proud either, still got summer sand in mine).

BeaRF75 · 06/02/2024 14:43

It's totally uncouth. I don't know anyone who would do that.

TomeTome · 06/02/2024 14:43

Yuck, not in my car

newlaptop12 · 06/02/2024 14:43

Massive hip injuries if you're doing that and you have a crash

StrawberryWater · 06/02/2024 14:54

I've actually pulled the car over when someone did this in my car. I hate it.

My car so no eating or smoking (don't mind drinking as long as it's non-alcoholic) and no putting your feet on the dash! Slobbish.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2024 14:56

Yes, it would bother me, and I still gnash my teeth about the blob of dog poo someone once ground into the upholstery in the back seat.

I would never dream of taking a liberty like that in someone else's car.
