I love the island. Depends on time of year for heat it’s generally sunny anyway. Just go if you can.

Ironingpile · 06/02/2024 08:41

Years since I went. Was lovely though.

Minihippyme89 · 06/02/2024 08:41

I went for the first time last year and absolutely loved it, go for it!

Beezknees · 06/02/2024 08:42

Yes, go! I love the canaries.

theresnolimits · 06/02/2024 08:42

We go every year. Great weather in the winter but totally depends on where you’re staying. Playa del Ingles/Puerto Rico = Brits abroad; Amadores/Taurito/Mogan much nicer.

It’s a big island and totally depends what you’re looking for. Jane McDonald did a programme on C5 a month or so ago. Take a look.

When are you looking at going? Earlier on in the year it tends to be a better bet than Europe, but the weather's still not guaranteed. A couple of years back we went to the Canaries in late March and the best weather we had all week was sunny intervals - say 45mins to an hour of good sun and it would then cloud over and get quite chilly for a while, before brightening up again later. It can also be very localised. You can check historic temperatures for particular dates/locations by Googling.

All the best for your trip and surgery!

If you can afford to go at short notice (to secure the weather), I wonder if you might get more from a city break closer to home - e.g. in Spain. There certainly is exploring to be done in the Canaries but it's quite a long way to go for that and depending on the island it can be tricky to get around.

ShoePalaver · 06/02/2024 09:15

Went to gran canaria in January and in February, both times wall to wall sunshine, temps similar to a nice/hot summer's day in the UK.

Getoverits · 06/02/2024 09:18

fungibletoken id love spain- love spain and italy- am desperate for blue skies and warmth and i am unsure where in spain . We just need some warm before surgery/ recovery . So any suggestions helpful. We once went to crete and it was windy and freezing .
i am wondering if best not go anywere as we have limited £ and need guarantee of warm .

It depends on what you like but although there are nice towns and spectacular (if arid) scenery especially inland, a lot of it is modern tourist developments by the coast, somewhat lacking in charm. Southern Spain, or e.g. Mallorca could be nice from march onwards and have a bit more in the way of architecture, although probably not beach weather

Getoverits · 06/02/2024 09:19

fungibletoken mid march!

You'd need to go long haul if you want guaranteed. Caribbean, Thailand, Maldives.

fungibletoken mid march!

Mid-March will be perfectly lovely, maybe a little chill still in the evening, but you can still sit outside comfortably, with long sleeves. In my opinion, you can't beat Puerto de Mogan (we were there for the week before Xmas), Google it.

Cape Verde is warm enough for you. Gran Canaria is great for walks, but not architecture. Some years they've had it go upto 19, othervyears it's slightly warm. The trip advisor forums give good advice. Consider what the whole cost will be. A cheap flight doesn't mean cheap holiday.

Fluffinghell · 06/02/2024 09:32

Stay in Las Palmas, it's great, very diverse, lovely long beach, loads of bars and restaurants to explore

Getoverits · 06/02/2024 09:33

Ponoka7 thanks - its got to be cheap ! So yes need to be careful .
