Just that really. I want to close my eyes but don't know if that's rude/weird.

I close my eyes through most situations in life! Ha!

This would definitely be one of them.

KnowledgeableMomma · 03/02/2024 21:38

Oh, definitely! The shampoo/wash is sooo relaxing to me. I naturally close my eyes because I'm so relaxed. But also, tiny spritzes of water land on my face during the wash.....closing my eyes keeps any drops out. However, I don't think the hairdresser cares one way or another. Go with whatever you feel like!

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 03/02/2024 21:41

Definitely close them. Make the most of any relaxation time you get there. I had one who would get her nails and give the best head scratches while putting the conditioner on, I had to tell her to stop as she was putting me to sleep 🤣

Sofabum · 03/02/2024 21:41

No, I hate the entire process and feel very tense. I don't know why people enjoy other people being near their head. I wish my hairdresser had TVs on the ceiling or a magic eye picture so I didn't just have to look at ceiling tiles though.

AhBiscuits · 03/02/2024 21:42

I do. I also close my eyes at the dentist.

LetsgoLego · 03/02/2024 21:43

No. My hairdresser is like a tazmanian devil when it comes to washing hair, it's horrible and not in the least but relaxing

dhxxx · 03/02/2024 21:48

Yes definitely I'd find it more awkward to have my eyes open. Same for getting my eyebrows done

junebirthdaygirl · 03/02/2024 21:53

Always and the same in the dentist. Think as soon as l lean back my eyes automatically close

nimski · 03/02/2024 21:53

Yes, and at the dentist and the chiropractor when he's working on my neck/head!

MadameCamembert · 03/02/2024 21:54

I tend to close my eyes and get slightly too close to sleep. If having a toner, I have been know to have to be woken. I love it.

Badgerandfox227 · 03/02/2024 21:55

Yes close my eyes, to relax but also so I don’t get droplets in my eyes. Plus I feel like I’m watching them otherwise. Also close eyes at the dentist if I’m having any treatment done.

Mumaway · 03/02/2024 21:56

Always, mainly so they can't splash in my eyes. Plus it's hard to keep your eyes open when you tip your head right back

forcedfun · 03/02/2024 21:56

Yes, I normally apologise in advance and say that I might doze off

PonyPatter44 · 03/02/2024 21:59

We always have these conversations on this board, when the subject of hairdressers comes up. So many people seem to hate their hairdressers, hate everything about the experience... I do wonder why they put themselves through the emotional pain of going!

I usually shut my eyes at the backwash, but I don't actually think the apprentice who washes my hair cares one way or another. I'm one of those weird people who likes chatting to her, though, and I can do that with my eyes open or closed!

This reminded me of the dolls we had as kids that do that 😂

My hairdressers has a telly practically on the ceiling ,it's really high and tilted so you can see it while you're being washed.

AppropriateAdult · 03/02/2024 22:01

On my 16th birthday my mum took me to the hairdresser as a treat (generally she used to trim our hair herself as kids). The hair wash felt so relaxing that I naturally closed my eyes. And then at the end the (male) hairdresser laughed and said "I thought you'd fallen asleep on me there." And awkward teenage me felt so self-conscious and embarrassed that for years afterwards I kept my eyes open when getting my hair washed, even though the natural inclination is to close them. It was only much later in life that it struck me that I was letting this one stupid remark (and I'm sure he meant no harm) spoil my enjoyment of something that should be a treat.
So yes OP, close your eyes and sink into it. Nothing like a hairdresser that throws in a bit of a scalp massage - bliss!

Motherrr · 03/02/2024 22:04

Haha funny question. Yes I do! Probably less weird than keeping eyes open and staring up at the ceiling! It's relaxing and I love it when they do the little massage at the end!

BIWI · 03/02/2024 22:05

I do, because I don't want anything to splash into my contact lenses.

Because we don't want to look like a raggy doll

MandyMotherOfBrian · 03/02/2024 22:08

Yes partly because I love it and it’s soooo relaxing but also because the lights on the ceiling are so bright I wouldn’t be able to see anything else for about twenty minutes if I didn’t.

Switcher · 03/02/2024 22:14

No idea. I hate having the hair wash though so probably not.

I don’t hate the hairdressers, I’m sure they’re nice enough people but yes I hate the experience of people touching my head and cutting my hair. I see it as a necessary evil though, I can’t cut my hair myself and I still want it to look nice so needs must.

FunnysInLaJardin · 03/02/2024 22:15

I always have a dry cut!

SulkySeagull · 03/02/2024 22:17

Yes, absolutely, but has anyone noticed that less and less hairdressers are giving the head massage now? It used to come as standard but at recent appointments I’ve found they just scrub and rinse!
