I don’t know if “fat” is the problem here for kids those ages - I think the more likely problem is that they’ll find the movie too scary.

I think that it's OK, they've changed fat to enormous, which isn't any better. Just leave off seeing the original until they are a lot older. RD books should still be on a child's reading list, if able.
