AIBU to be sorely cheering for the escaped monkey in Scotland

Light-hearted - mostly anyway

He's been on the run for 4 days now. He's managing to get some food (Macaques are resourceful so I'm not worried about him from that perspective), the climate is fine for him and I can't think of any predators for him. His biggest problem is likely loneliness, but given they are hoping he'll return if his own accord then maybe we should just leave him to it? I kind of think 'good luck' to him, and if he wants a life out of captivity then so be it.

I kind of wish he'd escaped with his troop and we might end up with wild monkeys in this country, but I'm probably on my own with that 😂

Ps: it seems I can't alter the typo in the subject. Sorry.

No, they are monkeys (Barbary macaques). Sometimes they are (wrongly) called Barbary apes, hence the confusion.

I stand corrected

That's incorrect.

Apes don't have tails.

Apparently not all monkeys have tails either.

I saw this pic on FB and chuckled 😁

I'm so glad he's been captured now though, I've been worried about him.

The monkeys in Belfast Zoo are always escaping. They've lost macaques a few times but they usually come back under their own steam after a while.

I totally agree with you. Poor creature. I was hoping to find a national petition to relocate him back into the wild where he belongs. But nothing…..
I hope he enjoyed his short moment of freedom. My heart goes out to him.

Sorry to bring down the tone of the thread, but how are they planning on capturing him? Wouldn’t they go out and shoot him? I was in Chester zoo when they had an escaped baboon, the drive through monkey bit had closed and they wouldn’t tell us why at the time. They’re incredibly dangerous animals, and I remember that one was hunted down pretty quickly in a a nearby housing estate and shot

Big difference between a baboon and a macaque

Have you been to Gibraltar? The monkeys were terrifying! 🫣

Omg so this! I saw a coach driving down the hill, a monkey jumped on its roof, ripped the sun hatch open and jumped in.

It was like that awful film Congo with rabid monkeys. Imagine minding your own business on a coach when a wild monkey lands on your lap!

I want him found and back home with his troop and easy access to food, it's not like there are many fruits growing in Kingussie at this time of year.

The weather has been horrific, snow, ice and well below zero recently.

Where about are you? Scotland recorded its hottest ever January temperature earlier this week of 19.9c. I've not had to scrape my car windscreen in at least 2 weeks - maybe more. It's been intermittently wet and windy but no snow or ice!

I’m glad he’s safe but hope he has some fugitive tales to tell his pals back at the zoo.

And I hope Aardman make a film of his exploits, with a heavy dose of artistic licence.
