To roll my eyes over cake drama

I took some cakes into work today because I had some good news to share (new granddaughter).

They were individual cakes and there weren't enough for every single employee, so I was hoping anyone who took one would enjoy it.

Anyway, a colleague picked one up and took a bite, then immediately declared it was "too rich and filling", asked for a knife and cut it in half so thar someone else could have it.

She then watched other people eat the cakes whilst asking with faux shock "how can you manage a whole one?"

My eyes were rolled so far back I was looking behind me!

My MIL does this.
She was over for dinner once, I was serving dinner and put a small portion of pie on her plate. I thought she was going to have a fucking heart attack, she actually squealed and almost threw it back at me. CUT THAT IN HALF, I CANNOT EAT THAT.
I've realised she eats most of her food while stood up in the kitchen when she thinks no one can see.

This is also my DM. Something about their generation - every time Pam in Gavin and Stacey was weird about food (pretending to be vegetarian, etc.) it reminded us all of our DM.

My DM does this. I think she has an eating disorder. We can't go out to dinner because she makes a fuss and eats a children's meal. She eats chocolate and biscuits in secret. She's diabetic and is not on insulin, probably as a result.

God it’s just so tedious.

Careful now, apparently the civil service are saying eye rolling is discriminatory/aggressive!

I've told my DH that I'm not eye rolling, I'm merely visualising what claptrap he's said.

Its true. I found it on the internet. 😈

I would not share a dessert. I have a cows milk allergy and if I find a milk free dessert it’s all mine.

Ha ha ha ha I wish I had the balls to actually do this.

You could vibe with it depending on the contents of her lunch. ‘NOT A WHOLE CUP OF SOUP- YOU’LL BE FIT TO BURST?’.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 02/02/2024 13:49

@lookwhatyoudidthere

YOU'RE ADDING CROUTONS?!!

This is one of the cakes in question.

I volunteer to be the cake tester who will give the final decision as to its richness. I will, however, need at least three cakes to make an informed, unbiased opinion.

Please let me know when they will be ready to be overnighted to me and I will send along my info. 😉

Well, maybe four cakes would give me more goodies of a diverse sampling, since one could be richer than another one.

In fact, let's just make it six. It's the perfect number.......

Oh crap--I just want cake! Luckily, it's my DGD's BD so I should be able to eat cake tomorrow. 🍰🎂

Went to work today and found the now rock hard half still there!

It needs a little sign with the date of the occurrence and ‘She Didn’t Manage It All’ neatly inscribed. Maybe in small italics below ‘it was just so rich’

I am heartbroken!

I think we need a banana for scale.

Just so we can properly assess the 'fillingness' of the cake.

homeadvice24 · 03/02/2024 19:53

Urgh I don't understand these people!

Just don't have it if you know it's going to be too much!

On the other side of this though, I once sat next to someone at work who would constantly tell me I was eating too much 😂

Every time I had my lunch or a snack she'd suck air in and say ooooh do you know how many calories that is?! What yourself with that!

I was a size 6 at the time 🤣

pootlin · 03/02/2024 20:04

I’d offer it to her and ask if she wants to polish it off.

elliejjtiny · 03/02/2024 20:09

It's these threads about people who can only eat half a cupcake that make me think this is why I'm fat while thinking I don't eat that much!

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/02/2024 20:14

Oh I'd have to draw attention to that..

SUSAN? ARE YOU FINISHING THIS HALF A CAKE YOU LEFT, OR ARE YOU WASTING IT?....

I'd be inclined to glare til she ate it or binned it. Ugh. Such disrespect towards perfectly good cake!

Tilleuil · 03/02/2024 20:15

I make cupcakes and definitely wouldn’t enjoy a whole one.
They’re quite large and there’s a lot of sickly buttercream.
The best cupcakes are lemon or raspberry because it takes the edge off the sweetness.
I usually pick half the buttercream off and throw it in the bin.
I’m not performative though and it’s actually my friends who draw attention to my small portions.
