Does anyone else do this?

What products are we talking about here, heat protection spray, hair dye, colour protection shampoo, extra volume shampoo...... the mind boggles!

summersunsetuser · 30/01/2024 16:15

I mean plain old shampoo and conditioner. Like using Tresemme instead of Loreal kids. Or do people still use Johnson's Baby? It's not clear to me!

I think shampoo and conditioner are fine, other styling products, not so much.

Zoomerang · 30/01/2024 16:17

I occasionally use adult ones when the kids ones aren’t to hand. Seems fine to me, but I might be worried if my children had delicate skin.

Nttttt · 30/01/2024 16:18

I definitely would not be doing this. If it gets in their eyes it’s gonna be way worse and also kids can have reactions as their sensitivity is different to ours.

DS and DH all use Child's Farm.

summersunsetuser · 30/01/2024 16:19

Ok thanks I just wondered what others were doing x

I’ve always used products for babies and children - they should be gentler on their skin and won’t sting their eyes.

Bramshott · 30/01/2024 16:20

I found that adult products really weighed down my DDs hair and made it look greasy

Alwaystired2023 · 30/01/2024 16:20

Opposite here, stick with children's shampoo and conditioner but use adult products for curly hair

WithOneLook · 30/01/2024 16:21

Johnson's baby shampoo here. The dermatologist recommended I use baby shampoo on myself during a particularly nasty bout of dermatitis on my scalp as it's less harsh on delicate skin.

NoCloudsAllowed · 30/01/2024 16:21

I have a suspicion that children's shampoo is just very dilute normal shampoo. So you could try to make your own.

Our kids just get their hair rinsed in warm water, no shampoo - looks fine!

blackpanth · 30/01/2024 16:22

I use child's farm

allfurcoatnoknickers · 30/01/2024 16:23

I wouldn't because it would sting their eyes. I use my posh leave-in conditioning spray on DS sometimes though and it doesn't seem to do him any harm.

MeinKraft · 30/01/2024 16:24

I use children's until I suppose age 6 or 7 but I would use adults for that age if it was all I had to hand.

Cvoight · 30/01/2024 16:27

Just a marketing thing. Adult stuff is fine.

Mothership4two · 30/01/2024 16:28

I used Green People kids shampoo up until they were teenagers. I wouldn't be that worried about conditioner but mine had short hair and I didn't condition. Some people use conditioner to discourage nits.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 30/01/2024 16:30

I'd be worried about sensitivities and the inclusion of silicones etc.

I have a terribly sensitive scalp and there are approximately two shampoos I can use without issue. One of them is child's farm rhubarb and custard. It smells delicious.

StephanieSuperpowers · 30/01/2024 17:06

Hmmm. At that age, I did use all baby stuff, but she did have little bits of eczema so we were cautious about irritation. At 8, she's using Aveeno which seems gentle enough.

mathanxiety · 30/01/2024 17:08

I used adult stuff for all of mine after about age 1, but they all had thick hair, and most of them had curls.

Baby shampoo caused howls of pain if it got into their eyes, so I'm not sure what magic products posters here are referring to if they have seen babies or toddlers get shampoo in their eyes without a bother.

By adult stuff I mean Tresemme, Suave, VO5 - supermarket brands.

KreedKafer · 30/01/2024 17:25

If your child's hair seems in normal condition and their scalp is healthy, then you are fine to carry on using whatever shampoo you currently use.

Given that I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo to clean makeup brushes because it gets them cleaner than Fairy Liquid, I wouldn't be particularly taken in by the marketing that claims it's more gentle than any other shampoo!

MigGirl · 30/01/2024 17:36

We used child's farm and DS still uses it at 13years. It doesn't have hash foaming agents in it like others do and I'd never use johnsons baby as I'm allergic to it myself.

JinglePringle · 30/01/2024 17:44

I had to use adult stuff for DD from around 12 months. Child stuff just made it frizzy and unmanageable.

This.

Totally agree. And the sickly smell of it makes me heave.
