Currently in hospital after a double PE. I’m worried so much it will happen again. Drs aren’t telling me much and I’m terrified it will happen again. Anyone completely recovered and never had one again? They kept saying how rare double PE was and how serious it is. I was hours from death they said. I’m just scared I’m not going to recover again. They have stopped my hrt and I’m been ill with this awful virus thing since NYE and they are saying it could be one or the other of both as reasons or just random.

Another +1 for EMDR. It turned my life around in ways I couldnt' even have imagined.

I've just filled in a self-referral form and asked for more. Less to unpick this time, but unfortunately my mind's now programmed to process trauma in a different way. EMDR can work miracles, but it can't do anything for other traumas that might happen in the future. Think that's where I am now.

The good news is once you know what the signs are, you can seek help immediately. I find this really reassuring.

That's never a bad idea. But you've lived to fight another day. Try to cling to that for now (I know it's hard)!

I always meant to get a will but never quite got to it.

Hi OP, glad you are getting there and have been discharged.

I too remember the complete lack of information and confusion over meds. I am on apixaban and have been on NSAIDs for life, no-one bothered telling me I can't take them under ant circumstances with the apixaban until my anti-coagulant appointment 4 weeks later. Luckily I didn't have a GI bleed in the interim!! Amongst other things they also neglected to mention.

The day I left hospital I booked a call with my GP to run through everything as I have zero confidence in the information I'd (not) been given, I recommend you do the same.

Allofaflutter · 01/02/2024 13:18

as I work in gps I knew about bnf so am checking all interactions! Seems lax that a patient is doing it though.

Yes. Found myself emailing my dad about where everything is in the house and what I'd like dd to have paid for from savings last night. He's pretty useless so I know I need to really spell everything out or he would not know what to do. I'm lucky as dd is boarding so not having to see me daily and is safe/bus/distracted.

I've just attempted taking dog out and nearly passed out so sat on a bench. Going to go to the walk in centre next as I don't think this is right at all. I didn't get such a racing heart last time, it was all shoulder pain.

Allofaflutter · 01/02/2024 13:27

my heart rate was 150+

The interaction is a slightly increased risk of bleeding OP. Try not to worry about that. It is much more important to treat the clots. If you notice bruising, or any bleeding from anywhere call 111 and they can organise for you to be seen, or if they have given you a number to call, ring them. You are getting the right treatment.

Allofaflutter · 01/02/2024 14:28

That’s good to hear as I’m not sure it’s the right time to come off it.

I started spotting and a nose bleed today already.

OP posts:

Both stopped though and not much blood but did freak me out.

From what i R.E.M. once on medication - little tablets of diff colours for strength but can't R.E.M. the name sorry

But once on those as make blood thinner it's impossible to have another clot so try and not worry about getting another one

Obv blood being thinner if I cut myself shaving I bled for ages. Same with a nose bleed

JamieJ93 · 01/02/2024 14:58

I've had a PE, I was on apixaban for some time,
Last year I was gravely ill and I got a blood clot in my brachialcephalic vein.
I'm on blood thinners for life as it was found I have AF.
I'm on the mend now
You must be very frightened right now but it has been found now and hopefully will be on the mend.
Hand hold x

I’m going to have to get used to my new normal. I’m not even sure how long I’ll be off work.

I think it’s very individual as some people will be more affected and some will recover quicker. But expect to feel quite tired for some time. You might benefit from a staggered return with shorter days building up if you think they’d go for that.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 01/02/2024 16:57

Just to let you know that you may feel pains in your chest whilst your body breaks down the clot, I certainly did. But you should still get any significant chest pain checked out.

Allofaflutter · 01/02/2024 19:07

This is hot and hard. Wasn’t there earlier. Should I be worried?

It’s the leg that hurt when I couldn’t breathe.

Surely I can’t be getting a clot while I’m taking high level meds? 15mg in morning, 15mg at night.
