I love a candle, I know I’m not the only one.

keep having the same discussion with DH…

Please do not use my £30 candle to burn of the smell of your morning poo, or the fish you’ve cooked in the pan, leaving the £2 candles (purposefully dotted in convenient places) untouched. I want my posh ones for relaxing/indulging/quiet time.

DH says a candle is a candle

He’s being completely U, right? Reassure me I’m not mad 😂

Hide your posh candles when not in use OP

DappledThings · 29/01/2024 22:11

Incense is far more effective at masking smells than a candle.

I've never actually been able to smell a scented candle. I can smell them unlit if I get really close. I've never smelt one after it's been lit. I'm not convinced there actually is a smell. I think it's all a con that people chose to believe in so a cheap one is the same as an expensive one.

I'm therefore TeamDH.

£30 candles??!! I feel like I am living in some parallel universe sometimes. A candle is indeed a candle.

DeeLusional · 29/01/2024 22:16

Too many people die with their best candles unlit and covered in years of dust, so they never saw how beautiful they could have been. Just light them.

Blinky21 · 29/01/2024 22:17

Well yes it's like anything else you have day to day ones and then more expensive versions for special occasions

Zone2NorthLondon · 29/01/2024 22:18

Get some gwyneth fanny candles for the cludgie. Eau de foof

Rainbowshit · 29/01/2024 22:22

I had to remove my dyptique candle from that bathroom as DH kept burning it to hide his smells.

It sits on my bedside table and I can smell it when I'm in bed without it being lit which is lovely. I then move it to the bathroom for when I'm in the bath.

I read across two posts and I read the post above yours and then the second half of yours as one post 🙈

CormorantStrikesBack · 29/01/2024 22:33

Use some room spray. Is he leaving the candle burning unsupervised after his poo?

SandandSky · 29/01/2024 22:45

MorningSunshineSparkles · 29/01/2024 22:08

What psycho keeps a £30 candle in a bathroom?!? Ofc it’s going to get burned after the toilets being used, stick the cheap ones in there and hide the expensive stuff!! 😨

It’s there for relaxing bath time

with TWO from Tesco that I got on clearance for 80p.

But obviously the fanciness of the nice one is too irresistible.

currently looking at miniature safes online so I can lock the posh ones away. Protect your assets and all that.

no one will touch these candles but me from here on.

Tell him that if he insists on using your £30 candle then he needs to replace it out of his own pocket when it's been used up. I suspect having to pay to replace it will help him to remember to use the Tesco ones instead 😉

Lovingthegrungerevival · 29/01/2024 22:56

I agree with your DH - it's just a candle.

Grimchmas · 29/01/2024 22:57

I would 100% use a safe for my posh candles but in reality you probably just need to make it inconvenient for him to use that one and convenient to use the cheap ones. Put then away out of the bathroom, that would probably be enough.

I had no idea people lit a candle to cover the smell of poo, I thought striking a match and wafting that around the shitter was the done thing.

we just open a window around here, maybe a spray of febreeze if absolutely necessary 🤔

Paw2024 · 29/01/2024 22:59

Poo pourri spray
Prices chef candles

Leave the expensive ones alone. One I love is £50 and I'm not wasting that on covering up fish smell
This is why I live alone----

Grrrrrrreatt · 29/01/2024 23:03

Hide your candles.or use his credit card to purchase poo fish candles

Use your fancy candles to burn him alive.

I proper laughed at this Grin

Throwawayme · 29/01/2024 23:20

Feel like my partner wouldn't know the difference between a 30 pound candle and a 2 quid one from b&m to be fair! Agree just put the cheapos in the loo

IAmAboutToLoseMyShit · 29/01/2024 23:21

Tell him your saving the posh ones for when you sacrifice him.

Some of them do smell really nice, most people I know have them and I do like the smells but I don’t use them myself because they seem to make my house much dustier, especially the surface they’re on and I get a sore throat if I’m around them for too long/too often.

Incense smells quite horrible though.

If you’ve never been able to smell a scented candle, I reckon that either your nose has been ruined by the incense or you’ve never smelt an expensive candle. Cheap candles tend to have a layer of scent at the top so they smell when unlit, but then plain wax underneath, so they don’t smell when they’ve started burning. Decent candles are scented all the way down and you can definitely, definitely smell them if you have a normal sense of smell.
