Calling Crunchy mums!

Duckingfun · 28/01/2024 19:27

I initially wanted advice for a natural, plastic free, eco friendly shampoo for my dd who is nearly 2.

But while you’re here! What crunchy things do you do and why? What would you like to do?

Id love to be more crunchy but I’m a bit lazy. I couldn’t do sourdough, it seems to take so much care!

And if you’re not crunchy, disagree or whatever that ok but hope we can keep it a nice thread!

Literally only here to find out what a crunchy mum is! Is Tori Amos a la Cornflake Girl one?

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Crunchy%20Mom

Sadly my username is ironic so I'm actually no help here.

I'm not cool with the 2nd definition on that page

takealettermsjones · 28/01/2024 19:43

The Child's Farm bars are plastic free.

As for crunchy mum... I'm a mum and I like Crunchies! Does that count??

Not really a crunchymum, but just had to come on to say that there’s a lot of BS on the internet about making sourdough and keeping a starter. It’s really very simple done properly. A good starter only needs feeding/refreshing when you’re going to bake with it. All this feeding and pampering and throwing half of it away is just because most recipes advise you to keep the starter too wet. Keep it dry and it’ll be fine for weeks or even months. And you only need a few grams of a rye flour starter to bake about a kilo of bread. It’s baking, not keeping a tamagotchi.

Shampoo bars for your little one. There are loads of eco brands out there.

According to my friends I’m ‘scrunchy’
(it’s a cross between a crunchy mum and a silky one apparently 😁). I homebirthed my babies, breastfed for extended periods, I home educate them and feed them organic food 90% of the time but I’m also partial to a glass of red, a Mcd’s breakfast muffin and they spend far too long on their screens.

Duckingfun · 28/01/2024 19:51

Thank you for shampoo suggestions!

For me a crunchy mum is someone who tries to choose a more natural way, whether that’s eating organic or growing your own food or just checking ingredients and avoiding some. It’s all a level of crunchy.

hi @Crunchymum 👋 you can be an honorary member!

Haha im an accidental crunchy mum..i didnt know.

Childs farm is good, aveeno also do a shampoo, i also use simple shampoo for myself..i have psoriasis and unfortunately my LO seems to have inhereted my eczma prone sensitive skin. Depends what shops are available to you, thats what i get in the big supermarkets, when i go to farm shops locally they often make their own.

I grow my own salad in the garden, (tomatoes, lettuce, carrots) but doesn't quite work in winter 😂😂 i generally make all my own sauces like pesto, hummus ect. I never thought of it as crunchy, i just know i feel better when i avoid additives or added preservatives so do the same for my LO. We are trying to look into an allotment so we can grow more and all year around, my husband was a gardner initially so he loves it.

All the products we use are i guess crunchy due to our needs, as in anything slightly fragranced and i am riddled in sores.

These ones also smell delicious!

I don't think I'm a full crunchy, probably me n kids too old! But the best shampoo in the world is little blue hen. Plastic and sulphate free, vegan, made by a lovely lady. I don't do sourdough but make our bread in a bread maker. Unfortunately it walked off the work surface 2 weeks ago, so I'm scouring market place trying to find a new one second hand. The kids sometimes wear tie dye. Does that give me some points? My thing at the mo is being a bit more French about food, inspired by a guardian article, is that crunchy?! Sadly the only things that really stuck there was the kids now want crepes for breakfast twice a week 😂

Futb0l · 28/01/2024 20:07

I make bread and my own jam

We only use bar soap & shampoo

We grow raspberries and some other stuff in the garden

Do i count

Futb0l · 28/01/2024 20:09

Oh and I cook most stuff from scratch and don't buy many jar sauces really. Just soy sauce which i have zero idea how to make.

Ive been known to make ice cream at home too.

Crepes and crunchies, I’m getting hungry now!

@Futb0l do you need any special equipment to make jam?

@Pickles2023 crunchy by necessity! I have super sensitive skin and have always been careful, would love to be more crunchy though! I’d like to grow food but I have fingers of death, maybe this is the year a can coax a tomato to fruition!

You’re not full crunchy, you’re scrunchy like me (part crunchy part silky).

Curlewwoohoo · 28/01/2024 20:13

Go on then, what's a silky 😂

The opposite type of parent to a crunchy one!
