Just that really off the back of a lot of threads but most recently one where multiple people were adamant that the only way it’s possible to have no savings if you have salaries of £200k plus unless one of the couple is squirrelling savings.

Followed up with how do they pay for a broken down car with savings? Hasn’t even dawned on them that people on those salaries don’t have cars that are breaking down.

Is it so hard to believe that money literally eliminates money worries? That you can create a level of security that means savings and such aren’t needed?

What is your definition of wealthy op?

I will go with the hrmc definition.

No OP.

It doesn't mean you though. You've found an HMRC definition somewhere? And now telling people you are. Jesus wept.

It's so embarrassing to watch but highly entertaining so I can't stop

That doesn’t fall into HMRC category of wealthy.

OP - you don’t seem to be able to read and understand what it is you are read. The post didn’t say that 50 k was wealthy.

Am not sure how you cope at work....when it seems you can’t read. Thank goodness your DH earns a good salary.

Hmmmmaybe · 28/01/2024 17:05

HMRC def of wealthy is income of over £200 k or assets of over £2million

but they’re looking at it from a tax perspective. Which is quite different from looking it as a long term financial status

i personally don’t think that just because someone earns over £200k per annum that - in itself 1 means they are wealthy

I will go with the hrmc definition.

But your feelings are perfectly explained by the poster talking about non wealthy high earners who can't manage to build savings because of their expenses? However, you identify as wealthy and claim that negates any need for savings. It doesn't make any sense!

Oblomov23 · 28/01/2024 17:06

"We define individuals as 'wealthy' if they have incomes of £200,000 or more, or assets equal to or above £2 million in any of the last 3 years. There are approximately 800,000 wealthy customers. "

Hmmmmaybe · 28/01/2024 17:07

On 2022 richest 1% had over £3.6 net worth. My personal view is that net worth is an indicator of wealth

I am aware. I have no idea why you referenced 50k at all. It’s completely irrelevant.

Exactly this! I learnt today I was considered wealthy by HMRC.....while I am well off, am definitely not wealthy and certainly not beyond having savings as I have so much income generating investments.

I think OP has a huge chip on shoulder, or is incredibly naive - or perhaps both?

Hmmmmaybe · 28/01/2024 17:07

£3.6 million net worth to be top 1%

Well if you are aware and you agree with me that it is irrelevant, then it’s possible that the same can be said for their definition for wealthy.

You are too funny and this thread has entertained me massively.

newusern99 · 28/01/2024 17:18

OP, hopefully you have enough money saved / invested somewhere that if your husband decided to leave you wouldn’t suddenly find yourself unable to fix the boiler.

Freakinfraser · 28/01/2024 17:23

I mean this politely, but your limited financial understanding and poor grammar, immediately told me you were not the higher earner here, or even an equal contributor, but talking about your husbands salary.

Unless he’s running off with my pre marital assets I set. And I could quite simply go back to my old profession if he had a sudden personality transplant.

Ouch.

But true nonetheless.

35 pages and I still don't understand your point, OP. I don't think you have one.

Or you're incapable of articulating it.

I’m literally stoned. But happy for you to make those assumptions. It has no impact on me at all.

Do we think OP will continue this with a new thread, once it gets to 40 pages? After all, no one still knows what she’s going on about. And she still hasn’t had any validation of her supreme status as a wealthy person.

She also doesn’t appear to understand the legality of marriage - what is hers is his.

Eh - it’s called marriage, they are now joint assets......it’s how it works in the UK.

Actually it’s not always. Pre marital assets can be ring fenced and in our case they are.

I’m on morphine. So yeah, the attention given to grammar and spelling on MUMSNET is limited. Because it’s Mumsnet.

The reason for OP’s nonsense ramblings are starting to make sense now.

Stoned, napping, sleeping all the time. There is some bigger issue here. This thread is just the ramblings of an unwell person, perhaps an addict.
