The cheek of it!

Storm is just starting and the rain is on. Thought I would nip out and get a paper before it gets worse. Our little block of shops had limited parking and I can't walk far at the moment with a bad hip so when I saw that there was only the disabled bay free I parked.Getting the paper involves lifting paper, leaving coupon and exit in less than a minute.
Back at the car a friend I haven't seen for ages stopped me and pointed at the car.At first I didn't know what she was getting at but then she asked me was I in the disabled bay. Then she asked me had I a blue badge and when I looked at her she mumbled and moved on.
I can't believe the actual cheek of her and I'm sorry I didn't say something.
No one else was about. No other cars trying to park.

As a BB holder people like you are a nightmare. Cant park because someone was only a few minutes, waiting for their husband etc.. so you end up leaving and not being able to use the shop or service. It's simple, don't have a blue badge, don't park in a blue badge space.

ChessieFL · 21/01/2024 10:53

There is a CF in this story and it’s not your friend…

I know it's not the point, but what's the coupon for?

If you don't have the blue badge, you shouldn't have parked there.

No,I'm riled up! I should have asked her was she a traffic warden. Jobsworth. The whole stop lasted less than a minute in pouring rain. Sometimes we need to use common sense in life.

Jobsworth??!!?? Oh dear another one who doesn’t understand the context and probably throws it at every person when they don’t agree with them.

Note… someone cannot be a jobsworth if it isn’t their job. Also being a jobsworth isn’t a bad thing because it generally means they are doing their job correctly.

OldTinHat · 21/01/2024 11:03

I have a BB. I have an allocated disabled bay outside my house. Said bay is painted white, so it is a courtesy bay and everyone and anyone parks in it as soon as I move.

If the bay outside the paper shop was painted white then OP could park there with no come back. If it was painted yellow, then it's enforceable and she could have received a ticket.

SweetBirdsong · 21/01/2024 11:04

Sooooo, you were parked in a disabled bay with no blue badge? 60 seconds or 60 minutes, it is NOT allowed.

You know that, come off it @Joonio 😆

Witchbitch20 · 21/01/2024 11:06

So you parked in a blue badge spot when you were not entitled too and your riled up because your friend called you out on it?

Ok.

Dishwashersaurous · 21/01/2024 11:07

So you parked in a disabled space without a blue badge.

You were in the wrong.

And you're upset becomes someone pointed that out.

Mammyof22020 · 21/01/2024 11:08

I'm guessing you aren't a blue badge holder?
As a mam of a child who holds a blue badge I find it infuriating when I go to park and people without blue badges are in disabled bays. Regardless of the time you are parked you shouldn't park in a disabled bay! How entitled!

The ones outside my work are white and they get ticketed?

Being inside the law doesn’t prevent you from being an arsehole sadly.

Your title says it as it is OP the cheek of it and by it I mean you. You simply cannot justify parking in a disabled spot - if your hip is that bad apply for a badge. My DF has osteoporosis with three fractured vertebrae he has been in a wheelchair since February last year it took nearly 5 months to get a blue badge for him. In that time not once did we use a disabled bay as we did not have a blue badge. As for common sense yours seems to be sadly lacking.

ClimbingHydrangea · 21/01/2024 11:12

@Keepingthingsinteresting - if they are, they are playing the long game and their attitude is pretty consistent.

Was the paper the Daily Mail or the Telegraph by any chance @Joonio ?

takealettermsjones · 21/01/2024 11:14

I'm sure if your bad hip gets worse and you ever end up with a blue badge you will have a different attitude.

It is annoying that you used a disabled bay without displaying a blue badge but probably no worse than the CFs that use Parent and child spaces with no child in sight!! I've seen people pull a child seat out of the boot so they could park where they shouldn't!!
I get that you are struggling OP but still...........

YABVU! Well done to your friend for calling you out on it.

TeenLifeMum · 21/01/2024 11:38

Well done to your friend for calling you out on being a dick. “It’s raining and there’s no where else to park” isn’t a disability, but you know that surely?
