To hate new flooring…..

Babs43ish · 20/01/2024 10:03

Hi I’m new to mumsnet so hope I’ve put this message in the right place. We’ve just had new lvt flooring laid to replace 25 year old laminate. It took me ages to decide on colour and now it’s down I hate it. The actual quality of the floor is great it’s just the colour that I hate. I haven’t said anything to my husband yet but it’s making me feel really down. I know it’s not a big problem and we are very lucky to be able to have a new floor but I just don’t know what to do about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Photo?

Goawaytina · 20/01/2024 10:05

What advice do you want? You'll get used to it? Decorate so it matches?
Is it just you dislike the colour, or it is that it doesn't seem to fit in your room?

missmollygreen · 20/01/2024 10:05

Sometimes a big change like that can be jarring.
Give it a week and see how you feel.

Babs43ish · 20/01/2024 10:07

It is also in the hall and kitchen

Buy rugs

Fuckitydoodah · 20/01/2024 10:11

I think it looks lovely. You're just not used to it. Once the room is complete and you've lived with it a while, you'll be fine with it.

There's not a lot you can do, unless you pull it up and start again. I imagine that's a non starter.

Goawaytina · 20/01/2024 10:12

Is it vastly different to what you had before? Maybe that's what you don't like, just the stark difference

Fuckitydoodah · 20/01/2024 10:13

I think it'll look a lot different once softened by pictures on the wall, curtains/blinds up etc and maybe a rug. The colour is fairly standard and inoffensive

Fitandfree · 20/01/2024 10:15

Not what I was expecting! Is it just very different to what you had? It looks lovely. Pictures etc will draw the eye away from the floor - it's a great neutral, which gives you massive freedom for other room dressings. Can we see it with a kitchen unit?

dottiedodah · 20/01/2024 10:16

It takes a bit of time to get used to I think .It looks nice I think .Maybe put down a rug or whatever .Seems good to me

DisforDarkChocolate · 20/01/2024 10:17

I thinks it's lovely, a colour that won't date and will go with lots of colour schemes.

oakleaffy · 20/01/2024 10:19

I think it looks lovely too!
Rugs as others have suggested.

Northernparent68 · 20/01/2024 10:20

I’d paint the walls and put up curtains, the floor is nice-but the room looks a bit stark

minipie · 20/01/2024 10:21

That’s a really nice colour. Looks realistic and warm (not that greyed out stuff). Will be very easy to leave

minipie · 20/01/2024 10:21

Very easy to live with, that should say

ManchesterBea · 20/01/2024 10:22

Lovely warm and clean looking.

This

Sahara123 · 20/01/2024 10:26

I think it looks good . Neutral, and won’t date ( I’m house hunting at the moment and anything with grey floors really puts me off ).
Your room perhaps needs a bit more colour and some personal items ?

Babs43ish · 20/01/2024 10:26

Thanks for your comments it’s not that’s dissimilar to what we had before so I think a little bit of me is kicking myself for not having something a bit different.

Anjea · 20/01/2024 10:28

I like it. It's totally inoffensive. Just like a floor should be.

Home sense have got some gorgeous rugs in at the moment. Go bold with a couple of those.

Allofaflutter · 20/01/2024 10:28

I had new laminate after a long time. Think oak after dark. Took me about 2 months to like it.

Daddydog · 20/01/2024 10:29

Please don't worry OP. There must be a physiological effect with flooring. You spend days choosing and ordering samples, arguing over colours with your partner, imagining what it looks like and then it's laid and as room is pretty empty you get awful buyers remorse! Same thing happens every time with us! We almost got a divorce the other week as my partner hated the floor I picked. I knew would be perfect. When it was laid I hated it and was so disappointed but she loved it! It was me just being silly and it looks fantastic 2 week later! All you see for the first few days is floor. As you start to live in it, you don't notice it, you start putting everything back in place and buy some new artwork and furnishings and then you love it! In a few weeks in and you will feel different!

Shoppingfiend · 20/01/2024 10:29

It’s lovely and warming -so many eg grey ones are such a cold colour. It’s great imv..

Grimmz · 20/01/2024 10:30

A warm, neutral and clean looking floor - like what you have - is a really good shout. It provides a foundation on which to build out the space with other colours, textures, etc.

If you chose something wackier or really different to what you had before, I think you'd be more distressed.

GreatGateauxsby · 20/01/2024 10:31

It wouldn’t be my first pick but it isn’t awful by a long way.

I’d get a rug down to break it up.

once skirting goes on it will look better too
