Your 9-2 job

Newyearnewme24 · 18/01/2024 22:36

I’ve been made redundant after working 40+ hours a week FT constantly on edge from workloads and things like with evening/weekend messages from the CEO. The ship has started sinking so he can’t afford to keep me on and has made me redundant.

I’ve been coasting along and know this is the kick I probably needed to find a happier life with a better balance.

I’m hoping you can inspire me - does anyone work 4 days per week say 9-2? (School times) - if yes, what do you do?

NC as previous posts could be outing and I’ve been made redundant which hasn’t been announced yet. Shamelessly posting here for traffic.

Thank you! See this is so appealing (if not a bit scary I’ve no idea how to start a business but I’d figure it out). Only hesitation I had was that locally cleaning companies seem to be everywhere - a local post asking for a cleaner will get 70+ companies recommended.@deeprealisation

hi there i’m sorry to hear you’ve been made redundant. I’m currently delivering parcels a few hours each day. Not the best money but it gets me out the house and my steps per day have been fab! It’s flexible which is the main thing for me. i work average 3-4 hours per day over 5-6 days and earn around £1000 per month. i can start any time between 8.30- 11am. it’s double time on a sunday that’s why i’ll work a few hours then sometimes.

Which company?

holycrabsticks · 19/01/2024 21:01

@Mumosa with who?

Mumosa · 19/01/2024 22:08

I deliver with Evri

Curlewwoohoo · 19/01/2024 22:12

I work for a non-departmental public body (which is a bit like a government agency, civil service type, but one step removed).

Prioromoon · 19/01/2024 22:14

Similar hours, but I could do those if I wanted - civil service

Newyearnewme24 · 04/02/2024 20:50

Just bumping this to see if there’s anyone else that could add to this 🤗

I was working 9-230 5 days a week. I left as I felt burn out . It was as equal as a full time job. I picked my DD up from school and did dinner etc and homeowner. My housework fell behind and admin. Plus didn't get the holidays off so had to find cover for 5 days in holidays.
I left in the end and now much happier doing 3 long days a week and having Monday and Friday off aswell as weekends. In holidays I drop a Wednesday so only have to cover 2 days a week which is easier for me

Spanglybangles · 04/02/2024 21:19

I work 9-3.45 Mon-Thurs, clerical role in a school, term time only. It’s great and much better for family life than the all weekends shift work I used to do with the NHS. Public holidays and nearly all school holidays off…ace!

Zanatdy · 04/02/2024 22:43

Join the civil service - many of my colleagues work part time and often term time only. Or those full time can go and collect kids on a late lunch and log back on (if child can entertain self for another hour or so)

Emily07jane · 07/02/2024 21:25

Hi I work in a bank 3 days a week. I used to be a TA and loved it but the money was poor and I didn’t want to be a teacher so there was no career progression for me. I joined the bank with no experience but have been there nearly 3 years now and love it. I work 9.30-4 Tues, weds and Thursday. I get 7 weeks holiday a year and have 4 weeks off in summer holidays this year so feel very lucky. We get a bonus every year, private healthcare for my family, good pension etc. I would definitely look at the banking sector, lots of jobs are hybrid and work from home. They are extremely flexible for working parents.

Newyearnewme24 · 07/02/2024 23:08

Wow that sounds great I’ll definitely look in to this!

I'm a SLTA in the NHS and work term time only, 9.30-2.30. Shit money but no childcare needed 👍

sunflowerdaisyrose · 07/02/2024 23:47

I used LinkedIn and searched for wfh/hybrid part time jobs. I work in marketing for a not for profit and do 3 days a week spread over 4 or 5 so I can do all drop offs and pick ups. I mainly wfh. It's perfect as I can work longer days in holidays and have some off and great flexibility during the weeks so I can make school events and appointments easily.

mondaytosunday · 08/02/2024 01:58

The ones I know who have that schedule work at a school or for themselves - one is a beautician, one is a PT/pilates instructor, one runs a hotel (so actually she works longer but can take the time to do the school run, but does work summers).

Tohaveandtohold · 08/02/2024 02:10

I work for bank, at their head office. I work full time but there are lots of flexibility and various working hours that suit family life. There are also some roles where I know people work term time only and one of my colleagues work 9:30 to 2:30 and is off for the 6 weeks of summer (unpaid obviously) though work during the other school holidays.

Self employed dog walker, i walk 8-12 dogs between 9 and 2/3pm 4 days a week

WelshWannabe · 08/02/2024 02:20

I work 9-3 Monday to Friday as a Specialist Claims Handler for a large insurance company.

I started less than a year ago from a minimum wage retail background as I was fed up with working weekends.

tiredinoratia · 08/02/2024 04:10

We are currently recruiting for a 9 to 2 job. Practice Manager type role.

sashh · 08/02/2024 07:19

Not me but the person who cleans my oven is busy.

He used to be a prison officer so started cleaning ovens in the evening and then went full time.

BabyBunnyMama · 08/02/2024 07:21

I don't work 9-2 but could if I wanted. I work 7am-12:15pm as it suits my childcare situation. That's 4 days so 21 hours a week.

I'm a fraud investigator for a bank.

Holypricks · 08/02/2024 07:24

IFA, but have my own company. Very very flexible particularly self employed. Not an easy switch as you need qualifications. Perfectly doable, but takes application.

I love my job.

Enko · 08/02/2024 07:26

I will likely get lynched for saying this. However I work as a development manager for a retirement complex. Many of my colleagues have set the hours that suit their life style I work 8 to 3 another colleague 10 - 2 a third 9-2 all depends on the hours that complex have agreed.

However the role often gets spoken poorly off on mn. I do not work for Marcarthy and Stone but one of their competitors. Mostly I like my job.

As476 · 08/02/2024 07:26

I worked 9-2 as a receptionist in a garage when my children were small. Then I went full time and became a mechanic

HarryUnicorn · 08/02/2024 07:32

I work those hours four days a week as a manager in a consultancy, they were happy for me to choose my hours when I was recruited and I’ve changed them a few times over the years to fit my need. Looking for a change though and keeping these hours has been a concern so this thread is really helpful.
