Would you keep DD off for this?

So I’ve gone to bath DD (8) this evening and she’s got quite a widespread rash going all the way across her chest and all the way down her back.

I’ve not noticed it before now, she’s well within herself and it’s not a ‘dangerous’ rash (it fades and looks more like a reaction of some sort or irritation of some sort).

It being Friday tomorrow, not knowing what’s actually caused it and not wanting it to get worse over the weekend when everything is shut - would it be worth keeping DD off tomorrow morning to try and get a doctor to look at it or is this a bit OTT?

I tend to have the rule that if they are well enough to do schoolwork and aren’t infectious, they get sent in

SENMUM63838 · 18/01/2024 18:11

@KarenNotAKaren if that’s the case, when do I actually get her in to see someone to take a look at it? My doctor’s are booked up with general appointments for weeks…

Good advice from Karen.

SparePartz · 18/01/2024 18:14

I would take a photo so I have a record of how widespread it is.
Keep an eye on her and check if it's spreading.
Check temp.
Personally, I'd keep home. I'd also call my doctor and say what she has and ask when I need to make an appointment.
e.g. they told me to call immediately if she got worse (she did the next day, they gave me an immediate appointment)

SENMUM63838 · 18/01/2024 18:14

She has a history when she was a bit younger of really severe eczema and I’m worried that it’s flaring up again so that’s why I want a doctor to look at it incase it gets really bad

Call 111

I agree and would send her in.

Mumof2teens79 · 18/01/2024 18:21

If you think it's a reaction or eczema then no you don't need to keep her off and she doesn't need to see gp until it is bad. They won't prescribe anything strong for such a widespread rash still in mild stages so you can manage it at home.

If you think it's viral/infectious like chicken pox or scarlet fever Google it or see how she is in the morning.

SENMUM63838 · 18/01/2024 18:24

This is the rash so I’m not sure what it is - but it’s both front and back

Would you keep DD off for this?

I’d give piraton and see how she is in the morning. No temperature? I’d send her to school.

GreyhpundGirl · 18/01/2024 18:27

I'd only be concerned about a rash if there were other symptoms, so I'd send her in.

Doppelgangers · 18/01/2024 18:29

Looks like it could just be a reaction to something, have you changed washing powder etc?

Given she's not complaining and she doesn't seem unwell then yes I'd send her in.

sparkellie · 18/01/2024 18:30

I would send her in as long as you don't think it's contagious and she doesn't have a temp. Then pop to the chemist and show them the pic, or try and get a doctors appointment, if you need to you can always pick her up take her to gp and then return her to school.
I wouldn't keep her off, how do you know you'll be able to get an appointment if the gp os booked up for weeks and it's non urgent? Our gp wouldn't see you (though they are spectacularly bad ATM, so that's not necessarily true for you!)

Definitely wouldn’t keep her off if there’s no other symptoms. That doesn’t look like a severe rash

Flatpackedboxes · 18/01/2024 18:47

Definitely wouldn't keep off for that rash. Would dose with portion and wouldn't see the GP. Doesn't look like eczema.

stayathomer · 18/01/2024 18:50

Have you got an antihistamine op? I’d agree it looks like a reaction not eczema. I’d just keep an eye on temperature

Yep! I’d do this. Best of both worlds

Naptrappedmummy · 18/01/2024 19:01

I wouldn’t go to the GP for that. I would see how it went for a couple of days (and send her in to school), if it didn’t disappear then I would go to the pharmacy and ask their advice. Really not a school absence/doctor thing right now.

Can you not take her to school then fetch her out for an appointment? She doesn't need a whole day off for a Qp minute consultation

Nineteendays · 18/01/2024 19:05

I’d give piriton and see how it goes. If she’s fine in herself, send her to school. Maybe take to a pharmacist if you’re still worried or send the pic to the dr via E consult

SoOutingWhoCares · 18/01/2024 19:06

Do you have a Walk In Centre/Urgent Care nearby?

If you call 111 they might be able to offer you an out of hours appointment tonight.

Has she had her MMR vaccine? There's currently a measles epidemic. Chicken pox is also going round. I apologise that I can't see the photo on my device at the moment so it may clearly not be either but worth a suggestion.

Mel2023 · 18/01/2024 19:08

I would give Piriton tonight and if it’s not gone tomorrow I’d still send her to school but would stop off at a pharmacist for advice on the way, even if it meant she was a little late in. Pharmacist can advise if a GP needs to be seen. Even if that’s the case, as long as she’s well in herself I’d send her to school and pick her up for the GP appointment and drop her back off. Assuming she’s feeling fine and not contagious there is no reason for her to be off school just for an appointment.

JudeGarret · 18/01/2024 19:11

Looks like a post viral rash, both mine got this after every cold or sniffle. Has she had a cold?

Pharmacist can help with rashes.

Stompythedinosaur · 18/01/2024 19:18

I don't think it needs a gp tbh. I'd treat with an antihistamine and consider if I was using a washing powder she was sensitive to. If you are worried, speak to a pharmacist. I can't see why she needs to be off school.
