Would you keep DD off for this?

So I’ve gone to bath DD (8) this evening and she’s got quite a widespread rash going all the way across her chest and all the way down her back.

I’ve not noticed it before now, she’s well within herself and it’s not a ‘dangerous’ rash (it fades and looks more like a reaction of some sort or irritation of some sort).

It being Friday tomorrow, not knowing what’s actually caused it and not wanting it to get worse over the weekend when everything is shut - would it be worth keeping DD off tomorrow morning to try and get a doctor to look at it or is this a bit OTT?

One of my DCs is prone to random rashes, he's been on antihistamine for so long to break down some chronic hives. His covers his entire body in patches but as there's no other symptoms, happily goes off to school upon the Gps advice. I wouldn't keep her off, if you've got antihistamines give her some in the Morning and evening for the next few days - maybe get an sensitive skin shower gel, like oilatum or similar.

@KarenNotAKaren if that’s the case, when do I actually get her in to see someone to take a look at it? My doctor’s are booked up with general appointments for weeks…

A pharmacist

catelynjane · 18/01/2024 19:29

That's not a reason to keep her off school with no other symptoms. Take her to a pharmacist for a check over after school if you're worried.

neverbeenskiing · 18/01/2024 19:34

I wouldn't keep her off school for that. Give her some Piriton, it might be gone by morning. If its still there send her into school, go to the chemist and show the pharmacist the picture. They'll be able to advise.

alorsondanse · 18/01/2024 19:48

DD used to get rashes like this. Usually when hot and she got hot so very easily.

I wouldn't keep her off so long as she feels well and no temp.

It's not the end of the world if you do feel better keeping her off but at this stage no reason to.

unlikelychump · 18/01/2024 19:53

Keeping her off for a gp appt is different to keeping off unwell or to monitor. That said I wouldn't go to gp for this

LettersOfTheAlphabet · 18/01/2024 19:59

I would also send if she is otherwise well and not complaining.

AllAroundMyCat · 18/01/2024 20:04

She doesn't need to be off school.

alpenguin · 18/01/2024 20:10

Has she had both MMR jags?

is there redness under the bumps?

if she is susceptible to measles then I would keep her off to see a dr.

LambriniBobinIsleworth · 18/01/2024 20:16

@KarenNotAKaren I wouldn't be so sure it wasn't contagious though. I'd rather get someone to look at it to be on the safe side @SENMUM63838

NuffSaidSam · 18/01/2024 20:23

I'd give her some piriton before bed.

If it's still there in the morning, take her to see a pharmacist and see what they say. This is exactly the sort of thing they deal with in order to free up GP appointments for people who need them. If they think it's an issue they'll tell you.

Take her first thing so you can drop her to school after if it's ok to do so.

ManateeFair · 18/01/2024 20:40

Has she had all her vaccinations? In particular, has she had her MMR?

If she has, then it’s unlikely to be anything infectious and I’d send her to school.

But if she hasn’t had her jabs, there’s a chance it could be rubella and you would definitely need to keep her away school and other people with that - not because it’s likely to make her feel particularly ill, but because it’s very infectious and can be dangerous for certain unvaccinated adults (especially pregnant women).

WandaWonder · 18/01/2024 20:49

KarenNotAKaren · 18/01/2024 18:10

I tend to have the rule that if they are well enough to do schoolwork and aren’t infectious, they get sent in

Same, I could come up with endless excuses not to send but school is important

saraclara · 18/01/2024 21:00

That's a nothing rash. The sort of thing my kids would get randomly or along with a cold. It'll be gone in the morning

dizzydizzydizzy · 18/01/2024 21:28

It's a widespread rash. If it's no better in the morning, I would personally want some advice before sending her to school.

2jacqi · 18/01/2024 21:45

@SENMUM63838 measles and german measles are doing the rounds at the moment! are there any other children in her class off ill? I would keep her off to be on the safe side, its friday tomorrow anyway.

Bouncyball23 · 18/01/2024 22:23

Call gp first thing see if you can get appointment then just collect dd from school earlier for appointment if you can't get appointment take her walk in centre after school.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/01/2024 22:30

If she is well in herself I would send in

Give piraton

Ring to get a doctors appointment, if you need to you can always pick her up take her to gp and then return her to school. That's what I do

Our local chemist is useful and will look and advise

Somethingintheloft · 18/01/2024 22:34

If no temp. Give piriton and reassess in the morning.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 18/01/2024 22:46

Dose of Piriton, see how she is in the morning, see a pharmacist for advice if it's no better.
You wait weeks for a general appointment because people book them when they don't actually need one.

L1ttledrummergirl · 18/01/2024 23:16

If it's there in the morning and you are worried, take her to a pharmacist. They can help with things like this.

Hankunamatata · 18/01/2024 23:28

Has she had more vaccine? Otherwise u might be looking at rubella

poetrylover · 19/01/2024 06:48

Looks like a post viral rash to me. Has she had a cold recently? I'd send her in too.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 19/01/2024 06:54

I would get it checked out with a pharmacist. Child in DC6's class came in with a 'nothing' rash in the last week of term that turned out to be scarlet fever. We had a whole class outbreak right over Christmas.
