To think vinted is out of order

I sold an item on vinted, packaged it carefully and drove 5 miles to the drop point and 5 miles back. Item arrived and I my after 3 days I got a notification that is being returned to me. No explanation why other than "they couldn't deliver it" but it was shipped to a pick up point, I can see it arrived on the 15th at night and ring returned today less than 72 hours after it arrived. Buyer was I responsive and today they said they had an emergency and couldn't collect. Vinted has cancelled the order and refunded the buyer, now I have no item and no money and just wasted money, petrol and time with this sale. Even if the seller had bought from an online business they would have not gotten a refund until the product arrived back to the seller so I don't understand why vinted just deemed appropriate to side with buyer. I was honestly not aware I was obliged to ake returns.

You should get if returned back you. Buyers have a certain amount of time to collect and if they don’t, the item gets returned back to you. Just relist it when you have it back.

Dotjones · 18/01/2024 14:20

It's not delivered until the buyer receives it so this is standard procedure. It is irrelevant whether the item arrived at a pickup point (or even at their property) if nobody is their to take receipt. You should get the item back in due course.

SBHon · 18/01/2024 14:22

The distance to your drop off point/post office is neither here nor there. I only choose to send by Evri as it’s the most convenient to me, I wouldn’t drive 5miles to post something, that’s your choice.

If your only drop off point is 5miles away and you find that a hassle then maybe Vinted isn’t going to work for you.

Moreorlessmentallystable · 18/01/2024 14:24

So the buyer has no responsibility to collect then? Maybe vinted is not for them if they are making people waste their time if they don't intend to collect, I do t see why they need to be refunded before the item comes back to me. I don't agree that I should get it just based int he amount of parcels that get lost. Then I will be tasked with chasing a refund too!

Well they’re in no way put out by that and they get a refund, so Vinted seems well set up for them really. I get it’s frustrating but they had an emergency, it’s not like they did it to you on purpose just to wind you up.

It sounds like the root of your frustration is this information coming to you as a shock. Yet none of this info is hidden. Next time read the Ts&Cs or have a quick google and you’ll be better equipped to decide ahead of time whether you want to use a particular service/selling platform or not.

Nowhere on the terms and conditions says seller has to take returns that I can see. Also nowhere int he t&C's say parcels will be returned if not collected in 2 days, it's normally 10 days to collect.

Was it inpost? Buyer only get 3 days to pick up from the locker before it gets returned. I turned off inpost after this happened to me a couple of times. Evri allow 10 days and most people seem to be able to manage that. On the plus side they are pretty good at getting it back, so you'll be able to resell it, although I get why you're annoyed with the wasted time.

Thanks. I will turn it off, it's a pain to drop off anyway I much prefer Evri

Actually, it seems to be an issue with buyers changing their mind on the item they’ve bought and refusing to collect. I’ve had it happen a couple of times now. You can get Evri items sent to a collection point too so it won’t stop it happening by just using Evri.

I personally think they need to change it so that once it’s delivered it’s delivered even if that’s to a collection point. If they have an issue with an item after then they can state as such and enter into the returns process.

LadyBird1973 · 18/01/2024 16:49

I agree either way you OP. You did your bit and it's not your problem the buyer didn't collect.

disappearingfish · 18/01/2024 16:53

Your petrol costs were probably about £1.50. You'll get your item back. It's a platform to flog your old stuff to random people, some will be flaky, just build it into your plans.

BettyBakesCakes · 18/01/2024 17:17

72 hrs isn't very long dont evri give longer than that for collection?

Elektra1 · 18/01/2024 17:20

Vinted is a joke. I bought a £50 item in November. It didn't arrive and I logged it as item not received. After a week Vinted notified me that as Evri had confirmed the item HAD been delivered, they had released funds to seller. I asked for the proof of delivery, they declined to provide any proof. Three weeks later a neighbour brought a rain-sodden box to my door, saying that they'd found it in their bushes at the end of their garden. The item was ruined.

malmi · 18/01/2024 17:49

This is just how things work. Don't spend your money until you know the buyer has the item and are happy with it, as you can expect a certain percentage of returns when selling online.

I often order goods to collection points and if I change my mind about the item I just don't bother collecting it and wait for my refund. It happens rarely but it's part of the convenience of online shopping. Now that's with major retailers rather than Vinted but many will expect it to work the same.

StoppitRightNow · 18/01/2024 17:52

So it’s not really a Vinted issue but a InPost problem.

The inpost locker near me was out of order last week and so they just returned orders. So annoying.

But with inpost it’s collect within 3 days. Evri is 10 working days. Yodel is 10 calendar days.

Sometimes people will have issues so maybe Vinted isn’t for you either if you are going to get this wound up. I’ve had a seller take 5 days to post something and then I’ve been away (having told seller) and unable to collect in time.

Personally, overall, I think vinted is great. I’ve made a decent amount with over 100 sales. Couple of twats, but generally good.

Evri send you proof of delivery directly on the tracking number so you don’t need to ask for proof. Exact same thing happened to me. The picture didn’t match my door, so I sent a photo of my door and had to sign a form saying I’d support a police report, then I was refunded (as was seller). The item never appeared. It was really simple to resolve.

Elektra1 · 18/01/2024 18:22

That was the point: Evri sent me nothing. Normally you get email updates saying your item is out for delivery, your item has been delivered, etc. I didn't get any of those. I've often found my neighbours' parcels just dumped half way up the driveway so I knew mine hadn't been delivered to my door, which is why I asked for the proof photo. They just refused. They're shit.

MerryMarigold · 18/01/2024 18:40

Inpost is a pain. I think our one is only 2 days wait and it's not a locker, it's a newsagent. They moan at you if you leave it just one day there. I hate getting parcels from there but increasingly everyone is using Inpost and not Evri. My Evri shop is lovely and don't complain even it's 4-5 days before I pick up. Also, I ordered something at Christmas using Inpost home delivery and it never came at all. Choose Evri!

Isn’t your issue with Evri not Vinted?

I think Vinted is bloody fab - I’ve cleared out my wardrobe and my kids and made a good amount of ££ which I’ve been able to put towards a holiday 🥰

bombardelli · 18/01/2024 18:47

This is why I don’t touch Vinted with a bargepole. eBay all the way.

Puddock1 · 18/01/2024 18:50

This happened to me recently but Vinted only issued the refund to the buyer once I’d confirmed that the item had arrived back at my house. Pretty bad that you’ve not even received your item back.
It was a problem with InPost on this occasion too.

Don't you feel bad wasting people's time? I can understand if it's a big company like Amazon, but no on a person to person sale.

It feels like vinted is pushing inpost..Evri used to be my first choice but now mostly yodel and inpost.

It's an inpost issue really. I bought something which the seller took a week to send. I then was away for the weekend so it was sent back before I had a chance to collect.

I would feel bad, yes. But plenty would think nothing of it.
