Have a Samsung Galaxy A12 and going to upgrade to the A14 later.

I don't want to pay the cost of an I phone. Can I ask what those without I phones have please?
Anyone got Samsung?
Anyone gone from A12 to A14 or any other recommendations?

Thanks.

Motorola G54. Does the job for me. About £150.

TheCurlyKnobhead · 16/01/2024 10:59

Samsung all the way for me, don't like Apple. I've just upgraded to the S23 ultra from the S10 and I really like it

YewandOak · 16/01/2024 11:00

Samsung S22 here,I love it. Slightly smaller than the S20 and S21,but I have small hands.

Redglitter · 16/01/2024 11:00

I think you'll find just as many people have a Samsung phone as have an iPhone. I wouldn't thank you for an iPhone. I've got a Samsung s23

Mabelface · 16/01/2024 11:03

Google pixel 7 pro. I love it. Easy to use with a fantastic camera, and its processor is speedy.

ntmdino · 16/01/2024 11:07

Pixel 7a here. Raw Android is much, much smoother than the versions Samsung etc use, with all their extra bits tacked on.

Camera's great, phone's fast...and pretty cheap. That's all I need from a phone.

How much is that?

Depends on where you get it from and whether you want a contract or buy outright. I currently pay £37 per month for mine on O2. This includes O2 refresh.

Mabelface · 16/01/2024 11:13

Oh, and if you get your broadband via BT, you get discount with EE. There's also a lot of refurbs about for under £300.

dottypotter · 16/01/2024 11:13

I've got Sim only contract. Want to buy my own phone?

TippiHedrin · 16/01/2024 11:16

Everyone I know with an iphone just has it on a contract so no upfront cost (or a smallish upfront cost if you get the latest one) but £35+ every month. You then own the phone outright after 2 years so you can sell it on.

Or you can buy a refurbished one outright for under £200.

Westernesse · 16/01/2024 11:18

An iPhone SE is much cheaper than other iPhones and does everything anyone would ever need. I prefer it because it has fingerprint rather than Face ID and home button.

i could not be paid to use an Android.

MoonlightMemories · 16/01/2024 11:18

I switched this time last year from a Nokia Smartphone of some kind to a Samsung Galaxy A13, it cost about £150. I'm pretty happy with it - I've always been a keen Nokia phone user but after getting used to it, I'm glad I changed to the Galaxy. I've never been keen on the iPhone interface and I think they're terribly expensive for what they are - I don't like the idea of carrying around something that costs that much money in case I drop it/it gets broken/stolen/goes missing.

Next time I would probably go for another phone from Samsung in the same range, albeit with the biggest internal storage possible (one of the 256gb ones) to future proof my phone purchase and usage a bit better.

£429 for iPhone SE.

AlisonWonderbra · 16/01/2024 11:20

I have a Google Pixel 7 Pro and it's bloody amazing. Prior to that I had Samsung for a good few, years, and before that HTC, which I'm not sure even exist any more.

KimberleyClark · 16/01/2024 11:20

Google Pixel 7 Pro here too. Great phone.

phoenixrosehere · 16/01/2024 11:21

Recommend looking into the prices of different types of repair jobs for the phone. DH cracked his screen on his new phone and to replace the screen, is about the same cost as getting a new phone.

Userob · 16/01/2024 11:23

Pixel here too, unless they go down in quality I'll just stick to their upgrades.

Neena86 · 16/01/2024 11:47

Google Pixel 7 pro. Best phone I've had by far.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/01/2024 12:15

I have a Samsung for personal use and an i-phone for business use.

They each have pros and cons. The Samsung is less fragile.

The i-phone, nothing flash is 6 years old.
The Samsung is three years old.

Neither were the newest models when I got them. They both do everything I need: camera, Internet, text, phone, sm, whatsapp, email, documents, calendar, calculator, one-note, weather, maps, etc.

A phone's a phone. Pay the minimum for something serviceable. Personally I would never pay more than £300/£400 for a phone. If anyone cares about the model I have, they are someone for whom I need to cease caring.

My DC, in their mid/late 20s, have had both and favour i-phone.

SmallestInTheClass · 16/01/2024 12:18

Mine is a Pixel 5, love the Google interface, I haven't had one before. Camera is pretty good and battery lasts ages. I got it mainly for its relatively small size. I had two Samsungs before this and I prefer the Google no question. I bet the Pixel 7 is great too.

FlimFlambros · 16/01/2024 12:22

Google pixel 7 it's brilliant camera is great, does everything I need and more .. got an iPhone 13 for work and I hate it..

Crumpleton · 16/01/2024 12:26

Not an iphone lover, although iv'e only owned one personally I found to many apps were made obsolete to quickly other family members have them and find the same is still happening, assuming it's to make you upgrade.

I've been a Samsung user for a long time now, just upgraded to the A54.

On a contract, not a thing I do as I normally have DH's cast off phone but it wasn't a bad monthly tariff for a brand new phone.

SerendipityJane · 16/01/2024 12:49

The only problem with Samsung is the mind-boggling amount of cruft they manage to cram onto their phones. None of which I want or need.

But in terms of actual build quality - can't fault them.

gano · 16/01/2024 12:49

I have an A14 at the moment. I bought it last year when I lost my old A21s. It's been great, does everything I need it to, and I'm happy with it. It's the cheapest phone I've owned, and I haven't noticed a difference at all.
