Worried I'll fall through the ceiling if I have a bath

Does anyone else think this?

I weigh 96kg // approx 15 stone

With a bath full of water, which will add a load more weight...

I'm worried I'm going to end up stark naked in the living room downstairs...

Does anyone else get this fear??

No. Trust me. The weight of the bath water alone is massive. Way more than you could weigh. Your weight in all that is very minimal. Baths are built with the knowledge of huge water weight. Don’t worry.

Springcleaninginsummer · 14/01/2024 10:31

Men routinely weigh that and houses are built to withstand them getting bathed . You will be fine. The load bearing weight will be multiples of what you imagine.

Sallyh87 · 14/01/2024 10:32

Bizarrely, I do have this fear. Although, I realise it’s ridiculous!

OldTinHat · 14/01/2024 10:39

I don't have that fear because my bathroom is on the ground floor, but I do fear my bedroom floor will give way and I'll find myself in the lounge!

TeenDivided · 14/01/2024 10:43

The bigger you are the less room for water, so the less overall weight of water.
Given how humans float in water we are about the same density.
So I think it all evens out, so don't worry.

n15pine · 14/01/2024 10:44

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for the reassurance. x

I have this fear and I'm tiny. It's just me being neurotic as usual. I also worry my bed will collapse through the floor and I'll end up in the kitchen 🥲

AgentJohnson · 14/01/2024 10:45

If you did fall through the floor then your home would have some serious structural issues and wouldn’t conform to building regulations. Do you suspect that there is something amiss with your bathroom’s structural integrity? Or do you have issues with your weight and are looking for a stick to beat yourself with.

mouseychick · 14/01/2024 10:45

I'm terrified of it as I know our floor boards are rotting

Hadebough · 14/01/2024 10:48

I have this fear but I live in a flat- whenever I'm in the bath I imagine I'm going to fall down into the downstairs neighbours living room Blush

Thisisnotmyid · 14/01/2024 10:52

I’ve always had this fear 😆 it’s ridiculous isn’t it. Although it always does amaze me how houses can manage to withstand weight and not let anything fall though lofts etc.

SparePartz · 14/01/2024 10:54

Yes, every time. I live in a flat so it wouldn't be my living room I end up in!

HootyMcBooby · 14/01/2024 10:55

I occasionally have this fear as we live in a new build and have already been told the joists in the attic are not strong enough to ever have the attic floored or to store heavy things up there ! Makes me wonder about the strength of the rest of the house to be honest.

An average bath holds about 300 litres of water.
A litre of water weighs approximately 1kg, so say you fill the bath 2/3 full, that would be 200kg plus your own body weight, but I'm guessing and hoping that houses are made to withstand much much much more weight that you could ever really need.

I sometimes think about our massive superking bed and all the bedroom furniture ending up in the living room downstairs too. Sorry to give you a new fear!

Redwineandcake · 14/01/2024 10:56

Yes my bath occasionally makes a creaking noise when I'm in it! I'm not even very big but I fill the bath up very high. I live in a flat too so I would end up in the neighbours bathroom 😂

Anjea · 14/01/2024 10:57

Yes!

eandz13 · 14/01/2024 10:58

I have this fear!! I do have OCD though and worry about all kinds of unlikely shite.

WhatICallMyUsername · 14/01/2024 11:02

Haha so glad this isn't just me! Our garage is below our bathroom so I'd end up in there 🤣

Allelbowsandtoes · 14/01/2024 11:06

I also have this fear sometimes 🤣 I'd end up in the neighbours spare room I think. We get on well with our downstairs neighbours but not that well 😳

UnderstairsAdventure · 14/01/2024 11:09

I worry about this. It's why I have showers. My concerns stem from the fact that for a few months we had a small leak into downstairs. So I worry that it weakened the floorboards.

sunr111se · 14/01/2024 11:09

I don't have a bath but when I did I worried all the time about this!!

samestyle · 14/01/2024 11:10

Yes all the time but having a bath always wins.

Sharontheodopolodous · 14/01/2024 11:10

I also have this fear
I've had a bath 3 times in the last 7 years (I shower everyday!)
It's the thought of ending up on my kitchen floor that gives me the shudders
Oddly I'm the same with bridges-i have to walk very quickly over them because of the fear I get halfway across and my weight makes the bridge 'snap' and I'll end up in the river
Never happened but in my head it could and I'd get very wet (I stop my brain from thinking 'swept away')

KissMyArt · 14/01/2024 11:12

mouseychick · 14/01/2024 10:45

I'm terrified of it as I know our floor boards are rotting

The massive, thick, heavy joists underneath them are unable to rot though.

Pinkrubberduck · 14/01/2024 11:13

i have had this fear ever since a Jonathan creek episode where the bath tipped to drown people in a secret tank (or something like that) - took me years to even have a shower over bath.
even though I know it’s illogical the fear is real

Willmafrockfit · 14/01/2024 11:16

i worry about being in the room below the bath
