To ask what helps you with your rosacea?

I am struggling with rosacea at the moment- mainly flushing and redness that flares up with exercise and some under-the skin fluid filled bumps across my cheeks and nose that look like spots but aren't if that makes sense!

The NHS/ GP appointments being what they are right now I don't want to use up valuable time on a skin complaint when very ill people can't get help right now.

Are there any products that have helped you manage the flushing and any raised bumps/ sore patches? I'm looking at various OTC creams but don't want to waste money or make it 1000x worse!

TIA!

Just to add, I had tried an otc azaelic acid and it didn’t help ovviously wasn’t strong enough. with the prescription strength, it got worse for a week before it improved hugely.

Utterknowitall · 12/01/2024 22:06

I have heard Soolantra is good. Not used it myself.

You wouldn't be wasting gp's time asking for an appt for a skin condition. I have used Lymecycline aka Tetralysal with great results

Etherealcelestialbeing · 12/01/2024 22:08

I agree with others. After bad eczema and rosacea flare ups I went to a private dermatologist. They gave me antibiotics for a month followed by coolants cream to use daily. I'm now reducing the usage to every couple of days and it's still working. The only other things I use on my face are aveeno products and natural/organic face scrub once per week/fortnight.

Etherealcelestialbeing · 12/01/2024 22:08

*soolantra cream not coolants!

Tilllly · 12/01/2024 22:10

Cera ve keeps mine under control but it's not terrible

tunainatin · 12/01/2024 22:11

Using lemon juice and water followed by black seed oil.

Newnames123 · 12/01/2024 22:14

Very cheap bit found sudocrem helps. Smear it on like war paint over night.
Never tried soolantra tho. Might have to

Lokkii · 12/01/2024 22:16

My triggers are gas central heating, alcohol and caffeine.

I needed anti biotics recently for something else and was amazed it cleared up.

It came back though, I can't not have the heating on!

Dermalex rosacea cream and La Roche Posay rosaliac everything (serum, moisturiser, cleanser, make up remover, sunscreen) else. No alcohol, no fruit juices, no tomatoes, nothing deep fried, very very minimal caffeine. I had a prescription for an antibiotic cream but it didn’t work at all. I’m still redder than I would like, but the pustules are totally gone and stay gone as long as I use the dermalex very sparingly every day. I tried every other day over Christmas just gone - definitely redder and a couple of pustules emerged. Exercise makes me a ribenaberry but I’ve stopped caring about that, it was the acne look and red nose, chin and cheeks that really got me down. I hope you get it sorted.

ScrambledSmegs · 13/01/2024 00:18

Soolantra is the stuff you need.

However now I've also had good results with tea tree facial essence applied onto clean skin morning and night, and azelaic acid (Boots own brand). Then a very gentle moisturiser, currently using Curel milk.

Plus a tiny bit of Dr Jart Cicapair colour correcting cream because my nose is still quite pink despite treatment, years of rosacea have damaged it permanently.

Mogs43 · 13/01/2024 00:24

I managed mine with antibiotics (private dr). I also found that cutting out caffeine , alcohol and diet drinks helps. If I get very stressed I still get the occasional flare up but antibiotics seems to help.,

"The NHS/ GP appointments being what they are right now I don't want to use up valuable time on a skin complaint when very ill people can't get help right now."

First of all, don't be silly. You have a valid need to see a doctor. If you need a doctor you need a doctor. And you need something prescription strength to get it under control. Not every visit to a GP is for life threatening or serious conditions and nor should it be.

In answer to your question, I initially had a prescription for an antibiotic gel (metronidazole) which got it under control. I keep it under control with The Ordinary Azalaic Acid which you can apply once or twice a day. I apply it once in the mornings.

mimiasovitch · 13/01/2024 10:02

I had the spotty sort of rosacea. Read a lot on here and bought soolantra from an online pharmacy. Took about two months and my skin is now the best it's ever been.

MrsMariaReynolds · 13/01/2024 10:03

Soolantra is the only thing that works for me. For whatever reason, my crap NHS trust refuses to prescribe it, so I get it from an online pharmacy privately.

sadsack78 · 13/01/2024 19:59

Just checked back in- thank you so much to everyone who took the time to reply!

I don't drink alcohol so that's not a trigger for me but I will try out giving up caffeine, and potentially seeing a doctor for Soolantra as it seems to work for so many of you.

Thanks again- wishing everyone health, happiness and calm skin for 2024 :)

Soolantra and Rosex did nothing for me. Azelaic acid worked like a charm.

Frostyloz · 13/01/2024 20:22

Another vote for Soolantra. I got it at a private dermatologist the first time and an online pharmacy the second time.

I have very sensitive skin and I’m quite acne prone and the Soolantra doesn’t exacerbate those problems.

user1471434829 · 13/01/2024 20:29

Oxytetracycline antibiotics for me, I take them long term with no issues. No creams did anything for mine

2mummies1baby · 13/01/2024 20:49

Dermalex cream- my rosacea is mild though.

Sapphire387 · 13/01/2024 20:57

MSM tablets from Holland and Barrett. Cutting out nightshade vegetables. Avoiding overly cold environments where possible- tends to lead to rebound flushing for me once I warm up.

Mumofgirl · 13/01/2024 21:43

Another vote for soolantra to get on top of it. I now avoid caffeine and it seems to hold it off for the most part

JMSA · 13/01/2024 21:45

Rosalique cream (available online).

MimiGC · 13/01/2024 22:24

Soolantra. Not perfect, but it's a big improvement.
