To think Vinted were wrong to side with the seller

I bought a pair of trousers on Vinted. Described simply as size 12, very good condition. Photos included a pic of the label showing the size '12R' (R=regular) but no measurements. They're quite a popular brand so if you know these, you know which size / product number to buy - both of which are shown on the label.

When they arrived they'd likely been altered to be exceptionally short (so short that they were actually capri style on my standard height 5'5" self). To the best of my knowledge, this particular trouser isn't available in a cropped length (and the product number on the label corresponds with the standard length I'd expected as I already own several pairs of these) but I messaged the seller to ask if they were cropped or altered as there was nothing mentioned in the listing to say they weren't a standard length. Seller replied 'no - these are normal length, 29 inches inside leg'.
I whipped out my tape measure and measured them - 24 inches. I sent this photo to the seller to show that the trousers is received were most definitely not 29 inches and could I please return for refund because they are far too short. She said no.
I put in a claim with Vinted (item significantly not as described) and sent photos showing the 'regular label' as well as the seller's message about them being standard length.
Vinted replied to say sorry, there was no fault from the seller and that I should have asked more questions before buying to make sure that they were suitable and to check that hadn't been altered.
AIBU to think that if you are selling trousers that you've altered or are not full length, you mention this when selling them?
They weren't cheap either (£50) so I'm quite out of pocket as the chance of selling them on in such an odd length is almost impossible.

Vinted are awful for this. I sent someone a pair of shoes once and they took a picture of the packaging and a dress saying I had sent them a dress instead. It was the only thing I had sent so hadn't got mixed up and had never seen the dress in my life. The packaging was mine with my handwriting. They complained and vinted refunded them £50. Total scam! I even showed them the receipt which had the parcel weight on it. I now film myself from start to finish packaging the item in the post office.

Crikey that’s awful . I have a few decent handbags to sell and don’t know what to do now . What a scam .

Vinted is in the wrong and it would put me off buying from them.

Dellaandthedealer · 16/01/2024 19:30

I sympathise, seller should disclose such things.

I bought a Crew Clothing gilet size 12, it was really small, there were marks on the shoulders too.
I foolishly accepted it and thought I would resell it, with size and marks shown in the description , but no takers even at half price. Lesson learned. I think Vinted is very good for children’s clothes though.

File with your credit card company or PayPal. I had this with another online site (item was listed the wrong size and they declined my claim). As soon as I filed with my credit card company, the reselling site “revisited” my claim and refunded my money. I’ve heard that happen to several people and I wonder if some of these sites just initially reject the first claim because it’s easier for them.

LouLou1992 · 16/01/2024 19:38

I had something very similar.
Vinted found in favour of the seller when the item had been sold as a size 8 but it had been altered to something resembling a size 4 - and the seams inside were a mess (clever photography!). I had no reason to doubt the item was the size the labels said.

I ended up raising a dispute with Vinted through my bank - sent loads of evidence (photos of the item, photos of the measurements, screenshots of what the brand states the item measurements should
be, correspondence with the seller and with vinted). I won and got a full refund. You can raise a claim whether you paid by credit or debit card so definitely worth a shot!

Sillyname63 · 16/01/2024 19:49

Approach Vinted a second tim and also message the seller and say you will be giving her a bad review on the buyers page if she doesn't refund you you money.

ThistleTits · 16/01/2024 20:08

@ihatevinted the customer services from vinted is not so good. Bought a pair of Toms, sold as a size 6. Wouldn't go near me. They were an American 6, so, a UK 4. The seller said "but they've never been worn." That will be because they're two sizes smaller than advertised. Friend of a friend's mother was glad of them.

sequin2000 · 16/01/2024 21:23

Vinted are awful. I bought a £50 gilet and in the inpost locker was a kids umbrella instead. Vinted released the funds to the seller as I couldn't send the code from the label underneath the main label as the numbers had been badly printed which I sent a photo of. I complained to customer service and their legal dept but got the same response. I'm not prepared to let these things lie so I did a chargeback on my bank account (which risks my vinted account but I don't care). I got my money back.

rhianfitz · 16/01/2024 21:29

Vinted are horrendous if anything goes wrong

Ilovetravelling · 16/01/2024 23:22

That's a disgusting way for Vinted to treat you. Sounds like the seller measured the trousers from the bottom to the top of the waistband instead of bottom to crotch. I personally would have another word with Vinted. Certainly different from Ebay who are ALWAYS on the buyers side.

AzraiL · 16/01/2024 23:56

She did mislead you though, she said 29 inches inside leg when they clearly aren't. It IS misleading if they have been altered and the seller didn't disclose this.

pollymere · 17/01/2024 11:55

Regular is usually 30/31" so I feel she's been caught out on a lie. It is probably best to ask for measurements on these things so you're covered. She was claiming 29" (petite length to me) and you'd have been able to then state it only measured 24". I won't buy things from Vinted for this reason.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 17/01/2024 18:39

I'm surprised Vinted did that.

Item is not as described, then send a picture of the tape measure showing them as the length they are and a picture of the seller saying they are 29".

I bought an item described as vintage, and when it arrived, it was Primark. I raised it with Vinted that I wanted to return; the seller tried saying it was "vintage style", but that's not what the listing said. I got a refund (though, of course, I had to pay the return postage).

RatatouillePie · 17/01/2024 18:56

ihatevinted · 12/01/2024 22:20

Possibly but 24" inside leg is incredibly short for something labelled 'regular' (even petite sizes are normally 27-28").
The only explanation if they haven't been altered is that they are cropped / capri trousers but again, this wasn't mentioned in the listing and as far as I know this trouser only comes as full length (but are available in short / regular / long variations).

Are you able to leave bad feedback for the seller?

At 24" length these are cropped and should have been mentioned!

How did you pay?

ihatevinted · 17/01/2024 18:58

@RatatouillePie - yes I left bad feedback. Paid by ApplePay using debit card (Monzo).

I once tried to sell some sandals on Vinted. Someone offered within a few hours and I was happy to accept. Then out of the blue Vinted took my item off and messaged me accusing me of being a scammer - no reason given, just a message which ended "thank you for understanding". I messaged them back to tell them no, I didn't bloody understand but didn't get the courtesy of a response. Terrible site, I would never ever touch it again, either as a buyer or a seller

Everyoneissobusy · 29/01/2024 23:00

Glad I saw this today. I've bought a few cheap bits from vinted (£10-£12 max). Was just looking for something tonight but had forgotten my password, found this thread in my emails so I'll check eBay instead.

D888x · 03/04/2024 17:04

Have you ever had any joy from them? I’ve received an item this morning that isn’t as described at all, it’s a child’s coat and whilst it wasn’t as expensive as it would be if purchased from a store it wasn’t a fiver and I could overlook it. The seller claimed in the listing its very good condition, and gorgeous, no mention whatsoever of any flaws! It’s had a major repair done to the arm and it has huge pen marks over the back, I’m really worried vinted will side with her but it’s filthy and it’s not the kind of filthy a good wash will sort. Really worried reading these comments 😕
