So DS2 age 7 has a broken 1st tooth, and over the Christmas holidays he got an abscess on it. As our dentist was closed we took him to the emergency dental service at a hospital about 15 miles away, they said to get our dentist to refer him back to them after the holidays as the tooth needs to come out, and gave him anti biotic' s.
So we go back to our dentist and the refer him, we went back to the hospital on March 3rd, to be told they will refer him to another dental clinic, so we now have an appointment for April 8th, BUT this place will not be taking the tooth out they will refer him to the hospital!!!!

Its a first tooth, numb his gum and pull it out FFS.
Guess who has been up all night with a child screaming in pain as there is another abscess so I am waiting for the dentist to open and hope I can get some more anti biotic's (I hate have to medicate my children with anything).

Sorry for rant, tired and feeling very sorry for DS2,

Your poor ds2!
Sorry no advice to offer, except that I have had teeth pulled and it is very painful for days afterwards. Perhaps the dentist thinks that it might be less painful for it to fall out on its own?
Don't apologise for ranting - can see you are very frustrated. Hope these new ABs sort his abscess out quickly.

pulling teeth on children is difficult .. they need to be seen in hospital .. giving an oral anaesthetic is traumatic .. DS had his teeth removed under GA .. which is not unusual (and he's same age)

I think you need to go back to the dental hospital as an emergency

you really need a paedodontist though, who is experienced with children

a 7 year old is not emotionally capable of keeping his mouth open as someone hurts / scares him

you have my utmost empathy though

Glad you got through ok.

MF - I'm just a wimp when it comes to dentistry - though it was an impacted Wisdom tooth!

Yes, windygales is right..while the infection/abscess is active the anaesthetic might not be effective so they can't take the tooth out yet. I work for a dentist..the 7 year olds who manage to sit and get their teeth pulled out are in the minority I think..most are referred to hospital.

its out The lovely lady dentist said it was not an abscess this time and she pulled it out.
I am so proud of DS2 as he let her do it, he was more upset at having to bite on the cotton wool thing. I think he was just glad to have the pain stop, (and I told him the tooth fairy gives £5.00 for the first tooth pulled out at the dentist )

Hopefully we can get some sleep now, Although I am a bit peeved that on my way to the dentist with DS2 walking along sobbing in pain I was stopped by a police officer and a truant officer who wanted to know why DS2 was not in school (I had phoned his school straight after I called the dentist this morning), anyway lack of sleep and DS2 in pain provoked me to answer....because I thought it would be a fun way to spend my Tuesday, walking round town with a 7 year screaming in pain!!!!!!

FFS the amount of kids from the local high school that hang around when they should be at school is more of a worry then a 7 year old who was obviously not having a good day and crying with a scarf wrapped round his face walking with his mother.
I know they are just doing their job but they need to round up the smoking high school kids hanging out by the kebab shop before making us late for the dentist.

I was so was not very polite to them, Still the main thing is DS2 is feeling much much better.
He sobbed all the way to the dentist, "it hurts mummy and I'm so tired" and he was scared that he was in trouble when the policeman stopped us.
He says his lip feels dizzy {grin] and he is drooling, but hopefully he will be able to have a nap now.

How did you DS get on windy? Hope it all went ok.
DS1 is going to have to have braces and he has no second teeth under the front two bottom baby teeth so dentist says hopefully braces will push others to fill gap
